never seen them play myself, though a few a of the other teams in the league seem to be doing well from youth signings

If there was a young gun in the youth team, sure. Alas, all reports indicate this is not so.

The best players in our yoof team are

Brady Smith
Nathan Sherlock
Braunde(sp)
Trifiro

Of those (IMHO) the only one who might just be able to hold down a squad spot next season is Sherlock at CB.

Brady will make it but not next season, he needs at least another year at NYL and (possibly) NSWPL level.

The other two - maybe

This is where having the Lightning not in the NSWPL hurts CCM (badly). These kids could have gone to play at that level and stay together as a team.

Fair call.  However Smith and Sherlock should have been as ready to step up this year as the SFC players - but weren't. That is a worry.

I think yes Laurence Braude, but also Scott Wright, and Steven Tibetts all have talent - perhaps another year yet.

The stand in keeper on Saturday (ex Blacktown City) Matthew Nemes looked promising and certainly did better that Redmayne who appears to have gone backwards since he stood in for Bosnich that time.

There is a ? over the coaching of Tobin/Brown.

I don't think we should go back and explore the Kwasnik option, although he would probably come at a decent discount after the season he has had with Phoenix.

Mile Sterjovski as marquee would be good, but I am not at all hopeful of that or any other major signing happening for us, either for the ACL or the season 09/10.

It's possible we could lose Petrovski at the end of season 08/09, we have already lost Mile to Turkey & there hasn't been a marquee this season. All points to us having plenty of money to splash around, if we wanted to.

But it seems that the powers that be at Mariners HQ are either sitting on their hands during this Transfer window doing nothing, or getting pants at every deal they offer, or waiting til the season is over to make announcements for the ACL campaign.

I also cannot see any player from Sheffield coming out, even for the ACL campaign. They are close to being promoted into EPL and if that happens, they'll be wanting a lot of players in training for them as they prepare for that EPL season.

Unless the Mariners pull off some miracle signing, I fear we are destined to go into the ACL with what we have at present.
