Kasey Wehrman is available after being released from his norweign club. Any takers?

Check Please! Could be our new Mile??
we might have missed the boat already.
Here's an excerpt from Wiki....
Before transferring to Fredrikstad he played for Lillestrm S.K. for 4 years. Before that he played for Brisbane Strikers and Perth Glory in his home country Australia as well as Moss in Norway. It has been rumored that Wehrman is the target of many A-League clubs for the 2008-2009 season. Queensland Roar, Perth Glory, Melbourne Victory and potential new clubs in Townsville and the Gold Coast have made contact with the former Socceroo.

these are the trial players
http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/104579,mariners-kick-in-the-balkans.aspx

EXCLUSIVE: The Mariners will trial a former Partizan Belgrade striker and an ex-Serbian international on the clubs whistle-stop tour of Queensland later this week.
Former Partizan Belgrade striker Dejan Zivkovic and former Serbian international and central midfielder Vukasin Ristic, both 29, are two of five overseas trialists being looked at by Coast supremo Lawrie McKinna.

The trialists will have games against Queensland State League club Logan United and North Queensland Fury later this week to press their case.

McKinna has always stated that he'd only bring in overseas players if they're better than the local players he already has at his disposal.

However, after a below-par ACL campaign which saw the side fail to cope with higher quality Asian opposition, he'll be hoping the pair will be able to inject some traditional Balkans flair into his hard-working squad.

Zivkovic's last club was FK Smederevo in Serbia's first division while Ristic was last with FK Novi Pazar in the country's second divison.

Also on trial are Italian Giorgio Di Vicino, 28, a veteran of 10 clubs in ten years, most recently Pescara in the Serie C, and former Crystal Palace Pom, Jamie Smith.

They are joined by Welshmen Matt Crowell, a midfielder for  non-league Northwich Victoria, and highly-rated Aussie youngster Rostyn Griffith, recently on loan at Gretna and Accrington Stanley from Blackburn Rovers and a short spell as injury cover at Adelaide United earlier this year.

In other news, negotiations are in place for a pre-season friendly between Mark Bosnich's Sydney Olympic and Sydney FC.

If the game went ahead, it would likely pull the largest crowd yet during the sky blues' successful community tour through Sydney.

Bosnich will be officially unveiled as an Olympic player tomorrow.

This is what i could find out about some of the trialists-
Just watched a youtube video of Ristic and he looks like a midfielder who likes to get forward.
Smith is 34 and questions about fitness he is a fullback.
Crowell a Southampton Jr plauged by injury only 24 however and looking for a chance to chance his career.
Di Vicino scored a cracker freekick for Bari.

Most triallist don't/ won't make it. I'm not really interested in the club shopping at Bi-Lo I am still waiting for the 'exciting' signings that Lyall has promised us

Who are you expecting? We're not Real Madrid, this ain't La Liga. There's only so much money we've got available and our club and our league are hardly world renowned - we're unlikely to be in the running for players who could reasonably expect a deal at even League One level unless they're Aussies looking to come home.

If these fellas are good enough, they're good enough. There's not much more to it than that.

I found a bit more information on the Italian on the SMH website:

From the Bernabeu to the Central Coast Mariners
Michael Cockerill - June 2, 2009

AN ITALIAN midfielder who once scored a goal against Real Madrid at the legendary Estadio Bernabeu has begun a one-week trial with Central Coast Mariners.

Giorgio Di Vicino is one of six triallists who will be involved in the Mariners' short tour to Queensland at the end of this week as coach Lawrie McKinna begins rebuilding the team following a disastrous conclusion to the last A-League season and a disappointing Asian Champions League campaign.

Di Vicino, 28, has played for 10 clubs in the past 10 years, and was released by Serie C side Pescara during the January transfer window. While on the books of Napoli early in his career, he scored in a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid.

Central Coast have four import spots still available, and will also trial two Serbian players, Vukasin Ristic and Dejan Zivkovic, Englishman Jamie Smith (just released by Crystal Palace) and Welsh midfielder Matt Crowell (on the books of English non-league side Northwich Victoria). Former Australian youth international Rostyn Griffiths is also hoping to earn a contract in matches against Queensland state league side Logan City in Brisbane on Friday night, and against A-League newcomers North Queensland Fury in Rockhampton on Sunday evening.

He could be quite good for us.
