Nice to get Doig back and have another striker(who can play) to help Matty out. The midfield is starting to look good.

Doig is a central defender .. I know LM wants to defend from the front but thats going a bit far...

I have not seen anything to suggest to me that travis is a wide midfielder, except constant posts of people dream formations

+1 By his own admission, Travis is a box to box mid. He has a mean delivery from the set piece but will not be used to cross the ball in from the side.

I think it's time to get back to 4-4-2 personally

Are you agreeing with me?

Or are you saying that a box to box midfielder is somehow a wide player?

I presume the first

Well we could do with someone who CAN cross the ball in from the side.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick of seeing so called professional football players in our team fail to get a cross over the first defender.

Elrich springs to mind.

Lets have a look at our recent signings. See if they match the stereotype surfie big blonde fast unit with no skill against actual player brought in

Caceres, Elrich, Huke, Travis, McGlienchy, Wolf, Crowell, Walsh, Apuzzo plus, Kawsie, Doig, then add,    Bojic,

The first nine players are small fast and ball runners Caceres did not turn out to be the best but its his style I am talking about

Doig is big and is a central defender Kinda comes with the position meaning only Kawsie or one player in the last 12 has fitted the bill we are labelled with I added Bojic in neither group but more of a ball player than a hoof up the park all day

The jury is still out on Elrich does he have the desire and will to get back to his best coming off a long injury lay off I think he does and is trying .. but Fook he has some competition to get into our midfield..

But lets us talk facts 10 of our last 12 signings have been towards players with skill , on the small side, and good with the ball at their feet... with one being a central defender ... who is  excellent organiser  ...

Just my observation when looking at some negative comments by some on the forum and some in the media..

Saw training today. Oh it was at Bluey ;D
Funny way to fix the pitch ;) Pitch looks in excellent nick as it has for the past 6 odd weeks now.

Anyhow... Wolf man had a few nice touches, always gets his head up and doesn't play panicked passes which is of course good. Was showing good movement off the ball early I thought, but seemed to drop away somewhat... could have been because he wasnt being utilised or perhaps looked for as much as he could have been, but its  not easy, when your new, players may not be leaving you out, but they don't look for you particularly and you have to balance how much you try to inject yourself and feel your way into the team a little, especially when you don;t even know everyones names yet at a glance, which I'm sure he doesn't. To be completely honest, just off today he didn't look a world beater, but it's such early days and with what I've just spoken of too hard to tell anything as yet. But didn't look like a Jardel in any regard. I hope he at least gets onto the bench this week and we get a look at him against perth, but I highly doubt he's going to start.

Travis looks like he will though.  :vhappy:

Ahmad was playing in Right back again for the ressies/other half of the squad...

From the formation today, doesn't look like Lawrie will be switching to a 442 as yet... Ah but I remember the days, when we would have killed for something other than a 442... *sighs wistfully* I can understand though that its really not easy to do unless you are willing to break up the Pedj Hutch screening pair which has worked very well for us so far.

So my guess at our lineup would be...

            Vuko

Boogs Doig Wilko Heff

      Hutch Pedj
Travis Weemac Kwas
          Matty

Bench - Dmac, Ahmad, Porter, Wolf, Redders.

I know Travis is not a wide player... but like others, I'm not sure how he he is going to fit into the shape otherwise... He has a great range of passing, so having him wide in space with the ability to cross a decent ball, switch the play or cut back inside to Wee mac might work quite well. Can't be much worse than our other efforts out wide so far. We have an abundance of midfielders now... good problem to have... except that we still don't have anyone laying down a very strong claim for the wide right as yet...  We've tried, Porter, Ahmad, Dylan and now Matty out there...in as many games... so it's a bit of a concern... having a look at Travis might be worth a shot...

On the other hand, if weeman is swapped/benched for Travis in the middle I would not be happy, (Don't think many would be) Really want them both on the park at the same time.

My preference therefore, if not breaking up Hutch and Pedj, would be for trying...

              -- Vuko --

-- Boogs    -- Wilko --    Heff --

      -- Pedj --        -- Hutch --

            -- Weemac --

-- Travis --            -- Wolfman --

        -- Matty --  -- Kwas--

Have to say, I think it's a difficult side to construct/balance at the moment...

Oh yeah, almost forgot, Pedj was taking some awesome free kicks around the wall at the end!
Be surprised if he doesn't score a few this year.

Will that be it for the squad i wonder? By my reckoning there are still 2 spaces left ? Wolfe is an injury replacment at this stage...Crowell a replacement for Caceres.Still haven't really increased the size of the squad. Looks pretty good though now, maybe another forward wouldn't go amiss.Just got to get the right formation now.

Could be just the sort of player we need in the middle of the park. Makes for some selection headaches now for Lawrie. Team could be -

                                         Danny
Boogs         Wilko            Doig ( if fit)        Heff
                                         Pedj
          Travis      Crowell                 Wee Mac     Wolfman
                                         Matty

Nice looking team.

Travis or Crowell could swap spots but I am very keen to see if Travis can play Right wing.  I'd also look at dropping Bojic for D-Mac and switching to 442.  Bojic probably derserves to keep his spot so maybe drop Heff and play Bojic at LB.

Yeah, i was thinking Dadi when i read about him not being too happy at Perth. He was there leading goal scorer last year, i think he is a similar type mould of player to dmac, but can hit the back of the net, rather than the goalie hahaha

I think Allsopp would leave, not sure Melbourne will release him.

Allsopp obviously wants out after they denied his release.
