Bench: Redders, Clarky, Porter/Cahill, Kwas/Macca

Don't see Lawrie dropping Macca or going back to a 4321 after last week.
Certainly hope not. Crowell to come off bench surely?

There is a match thread to talk about this thing

can anyone give reason why we would sign lewis first team,
then not give im a run?
Most probably to fulfill the "3 players u23" requirement

development as a full time player plus to be on standby when we are ravaged by injuries

lewis is getting a run in the youth team every week at the moment and that is where he belongs at the moment

elevated position

Lewis will be a great player however at this stage needs a bit of physically developement to allow him to play consistanly at A League level. Will get his share of of the bench time( unluckily for him and luckily for the Mariners midfield is strong and fit at the moment)

Seems to have been missed on here but possibly one of our most important signings so far - given the guys pedigree, this is a great move. Finally replaced Fergie.

Lawrie McKinnas already well credentialed coaching staff has received a further boost today, with news National Youth League mentor Tony Walmsley has been appointed to an assistant coach role with the Central Coast Mariners first team.

Walmsley has been instrumental in helping to grow the Mariners Academy, the only one of its type within the Hyundai A-League, and has an enviable record in developing players for a considerable period of time, having held senior coaching roles within various State Federations and State Institutes, as well as heading English Premier League giant Manchester Uniteds Australian based academy.

Don't really think its big news to be honest. The guy has been part of the setup for quite some time and this appointment can only mean he divides his time between academy and first team. Will his work suffer at the academy? Will he be able to give the same time to the job that Fergie did?
The appointment raises more questions than it answers IMO. We still have 1 fewer staff members than before Fergie left

Could I be wrong in suggesting that with this change Walmsley has gone from something that wasn't full time to something that is? In other words, while the name and the face is not new, the actual capacity he provides has changed.

Still, the assistant coaches job would be fulltime in itself you would think?

It seems like promotion to me, which must be a good thing. If he has impressed enough with his work with the youth players that it has gained recognition and he has been rewarded then I am pleased for him and for the club. Obviously this now creates an opportunity for Graham Arnold to be the assistant to Damien Brown :innocent:

Lets snaffle Williams! Pace and high work rate. Be a fantastic signing for us.

Come on Fergie! Throw your old mates a bone!

Struggling Fury turn to Fred Agius in the hope of turning fortunes around
By Marco Monteverde
October 03, 2009
Finally, Fred Agius has been given another chance to prove he is the playmaker North Queensland Fury require to get off the bottom of the A-League ladder.

Sparingly used this season despite his undeniable talent, Agius is poised for a second-half cameo against Perth Glory at ME Bank Stadium.

Agius has played less than 40 minutes of A-League football this season despite his brilliant display off the bench in the Fury's pulsating 3-3 draw with Adelaide United in round four.

The 25-year-old South Australian product set up two of North Queensland's goals in the thriller, but has since played only a further 10 minutes of football.

However, with the Fury having succumbed 2-0 at home to Adelaide last Sunday, coach Ian Ferguson has decided to give Agius an overdue opportunity.

"Freddy is definitely in my thoughts," Ferguson said.

While it's joy for Agius, it's despair for David Williams, who has been dropped by Ferguson.

Having joined the Fury on loan from Danish club Brondby, Williams' hopes of kick-starting his career have suffered after being forced by Ferguson to play in the midfield rather than his preferred position up front.

Ferguson has been critical of 21-year-old Williams' distribution and believes the former Australian under-17 and under-20 representative is suffering under the weight of expectation.

The return of midfield anchorman Ufuk Talay from a hamstring injury will add some much-needed poise to the Fury's engine room.

Ferguson said it was vital the Fury picked up "something" from the clash.

Not sure it makes sense. Sign someone for 2 weeks then let him go? Even as injury cover doesn't make alot of sense.Think perhaps we are making room for a striker or two?
