I had a territory that covered that area, used to drive round those streets in a new car, in a suit feeling somewhat exposed.

Repo'ing cars from some of the Battersea estates as a 21yo opens your eyes a bit too.

I must have been mad

Must have fancied yerself as a bit of a goer.....either that or you were mad!?

Very funny article in SMH by Cockerill talking about Mariners recruiting from overseas - One Scot, One Kiwi (who is really a Scot) and one Pom from Sheff Utd...truly, it is the world game.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald we are trialling two more including a Jamacian International. Anyone know who they may be?

Looking at wingers on the wiki site these guys come up:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jermaine_Johnson
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Williams_(Jamaican_footballer)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamal_Campbell-Ryce
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demar_Phillips
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Morrison_(footballer)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafe_Wolfe

If I was a betting man I would defintely say it is one of the last two and most probably Jason Morrison. They are both Sheffield players farmed out to our Hungarian sister club with Morrison being a more attacking mid than Wolfe.

I would happily take Jermaine Johnson though.

Reading the smh at lunch today and one of the Jamaicans is actually Rafe Wolfe's brother Wolry

I just read on 442 that LM is looking to sign one more before Thursday! With Wolfe Apparently being a defender (according to wiki) I hope it's him.

if we do and he's foreign, its probably unlikely that they will get the visa approved by thursday anyway

When is the transfer deadline exactly, thought it was a bit late to still be signing people.

FIFA window shuts on August 31st.  Not sure if the A-League has a different one.

First it was New Caledonia but i think Mauritius is n the most random country to have players even get close to the A-League.
Don't think it's a footballing hotspot though

I think we have a good squad. all we need now is a marque...
possibly someone like john alosi.. like half way through the season sign a big name for half a season, if we are doing ok...

I agree, I think our squad looks pretty good.

But getting down to the nitty gritty is more fun  :tophat:

It's funny, a lot of people still seem to be more concerned about our back line than me?

Boogs, Clarky, Porter, Doig, Wilko, Heff, Pedj, Travis has even played there and we also have Sherlock now, who personally I really rate. Thats nine possible backs. We were lacking another leader imo, and we have him in Doig. All should be well I think?

As to what we still need, or could do with some more of...

I'd still like to see a powerful box to box mid who work his ass off - A Mile type with even more speed would be the bomb, but might as well ask for a purple people eater I realise.  Probably more chance of getting Mile back on speed? Be good to have someone who can genuinely challenge for Hutch and or Pedj's position as holding mids. But then again we may even find that we are changing the nature of our game and style if McGlinchey and Travis are the goods.

This suits me fine, because above all I want some mids who consistently gets on the score card to take some pressure off our front men.

Kwassie we know can do it. But who knows if he will. Adrian seems to have all the skills but struggles for mental intensity and just doesn't finish especially when compared to the amount of great opps taht credit to him he creates. Ahmad, I think it's still in there, but so many factors can stop a player from finding his top form again... I sincerely hope he does this season. Hutch has usually been reliable for a decent contribution to the score sheet but his current role sees him as less active in this regard. Porter is growing and growing imo, but can he be counted on to score with any consistency? Provide I'd say yes. Score probably not. Little Mac and Travis? Our hopes are high.... But they're unknown quantities as yet.

Matty, Dylan and Nik is a decent amount of firepower you would think. But if you have that real consistent threat from the mids it just makes the forwards job so much easier space wise. I really don;t want to see isolated target men working their asses off to no avail because our attacking mids don't threaten and work hard enough to create the link up play. This is why Tommy imo has been so sorely missed also imo.

And finally a marquee. Don't care where he plays really, as I think good press, hype and bums on seats would be the most important thing he could likely bring to our club at this point in time.

no Mauritians on the roster for any of these teams;
    Sheffield United
    So Paulo FC
    China Chengdu Blades
    Ferencvrosi TC
    White Star Woluw F.C.

no idea who they could be.
