Perhaps Lawrie will be targetting a New Caledonian "superstar" now that he is their defacto manager for their WC Qualifier against New Zealand?

The Mariners have been in contact with sister club Sheffield United in the hope of securing an injury-replacement player for Elrich, and have their sights on former Newcastle United star Keith Gillespie.

Ty Owens lol, couldn't make Lightning 1st grade on a regular basis.

Thats a bit harsh IMHO. He broke his foot v early in the season which didnt help. Having said that, I reckon Brady Smith wouldnt be a bad option off the bench if we got really strapped. Future super star that kid

McKinna hoping French Bru can provide champagne football

LONG derided for their lack of foreign signings, Central Coast are considering adding some Gallic flair to their squad, with French midfielder Jonathan Bru on trial at the Gosford club.

Formerly of high-flying Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais, Bru moved to second-division side Istres in 2006 before moving to Chateauroux last season. While the 23-year-old took part in his first training session with the club yesterday, he is still a long way from securing a deal.

The Mariners have one spot left on their roster and, with Ahmad Elrich out for the season, an injury-replacement spot is also available.

Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna, who returned from Noumea yesterday afternoon, said he was looking forward to seeing whether Bru had what it takes. "Fergie [assistant coach Ian Ferguson] said he's got some good touch on the ball and he's one of those players who likes some angled passes and looks to switch the play," McKinna said.

"We've got him in for the week, so we're going to try and give him a run in the youth team when they play down in Sydney on Thursday, and then he'll go back to Melbourne at the weekend."

McKinna linked with New Caledonia in their quest to topple New Zealand at the OFC Nations Cup on Saturday. Brought in to assist with training and preparation, McKinna's influence was unable to inspire the minnows, as they succumbed 3-1.

"They played quite well and in the second half they had New Zealand under quite a bit of pressure," McKinna said. "We spent a lot of time with them, and it was well worth going over."

Does anyone know when and where the Youth team are playing this thurs?

Did a bit of research (which is not really my thing) on this guy and he really hasn't played much in the last few years. And its confusing as to weather he is a midfielder or a defender. I'd be interested to see how he goes in the NYL

He's not in wiki and they have alot of player profiles.
It's one to watch though.

An wiki is an appropriate and accurate research tool?
No but gives you a good over look about any player his history and fan thoughts.
