Central Coast Mariners Squad 2021/22

Would like to see a specialist #6 to replace Gianni but doubt that's where the money is - saw someone mentioned it will be an attacker, which we probably need as well. Will be interesting to see how Monty's tactics shape up without a specialist ball winning midfielder like we had last season.

If Nizzy and Ollie are #8 and #6 we will have our two most technically adept players in this position. Players who can hold the ball, create space and especially in Ollie someone who can hit a forty yard pass with ease.

They can also harass players in defence. While they won’t have the physical presence of Gianni they will be buzzing players like flies.

Injury free we still have a defensive spine of Birraz, Rowles, Tongyik, Ollie and Nizzy.

I suspect the tactic this season will be to get the ball to the front third as quick as possible and play football where we have stacked the talent. I doubt there will be much Okon style passing through the back.

We’ll have to avoid Bozanic copping his own yellows plus a bunch that Stensness used to pick up. If he takes on too much of that physical or disruptive burden he’ll miss a few games through suspension.
He's no spring chicken either, need to try to keep him injury free.

With Hall, Tongyik and Bozanic we have guy's who will explore with their passing so I'm 100% sold on going forward quick. Plus the speed we've added to the squad indicates this also. It's a great tactical change to make with a fairly unchanged defensive line.

I think in Nizzy you've got the perfect foil for this situation. He is always in there harassing and winning contests with his technical skill taking over where Stens physical skill would be. With more game time in that position I think we'll find Nizzy to be a real pain in the arse for other teams middle third.

I think so too, but it remains to be seen if he’ll take the odd yellow to break up play when needed. Obviously it’s not how one would prefer to play but most good DMs aren’t afraid to cop one in the right circumstances.

You'd have to think he wouldn't get that many even if they are deserved. He's not the guy that leaves his feet often and if he over powered someone illegally on his feet, as an official I'd be more in awe of the feat than wanting to book him. "You did f**king what now......... play on"
