Central Coast Mariners squad - 2010/2011 HAL season

From what I have been told/seen, he is a brilliant player. He is playing in the championship and is still fairly young and imo has a future in England's top two teirs for years to come. The A-league imo is not something that would interest him at this stage, to get young players of that ability from those leagues they need to be out to prove something (eg Travis who had injury problems constantly).

I'm sure plenty won't agree but if I was playing in the Championship I wouldn't be looking to Australia as a place to further my career

From what I've read he's still unproven in the championship (this will be his 3rd season) however killed league 1. I'm still not sure where this places him in terms of the a-league but as you mentioned he's only 23 and no injury problems so probably has ambition of going higher. Also his transfer fee from Sc**thorpe to Sheffield was reported as 2.670.000 so possibly out of our price range.

Even though he is transfer listed by Sheffield you would think they would like to get most of that price back when they do find a buyer

He is a Sheffield local and was transfer listed in July He is currently on a season long loan at Doncaster when his contract will be up.

If they want to recoup any money they will need to renew his contract.

I'd take Downey, Barberio & Elasi please ;)
Last year in fifa09
I bought rukavystka & downey

Does downey have anything but pace? I am pretty certain the answer is no. There are plenty of sprinters on the coast who could do that job with the same complete lack of football ability

believe it or not Downey has some footballing ability. Albeit his biggest asset definately is his pace...
Now when you think about it logically- that's something our squad lacks- he could provide something different.
And he can cross the ball decent (maybe not as good as Porter though...)

We need to be improving our squad. Would he improve our squad in any other way than pace. No!!

We need to be looking at better players. LM seems to have done well this year with Wee Mac, Travis and on the face of a half a game Crowell. I think I'll back his judgement over yours at this stage.

As per commentators during Welly NQ game, we are trying to get Daniel Mcbreen for next season, as are NQ, Sydney, and someone else

Nearly had 2 against us.  I'd sign him.  He has looked handy and i've watched alot of em this year.

Last year we had 4 strikers...both Disco & D-mac will probably be released and obviously "girl's name" already gone...leaving us with just Simon (and Kwas??!...mid/emergency striker).
That leaves 3 spots and for mine he's worthy of one.  I'd also sign Brockie as the 4th striker.

I agree with Jesus.  I don't think Downey has anything but pace.  Very limited technically.

My point is
obviously we would love a player with speed + technique.
But if not, then we should have one person in the squad that can match the Zullo's, AT's, Minniecon's, etc.
With exception of NQ and maybe the Nix i reckon every team fastest player is faster than ours... Not the end of the world...but we need some variety!
I would sign Downey with Winger in mind...

Can you really see a team with McBreen/Brockie in it even getting to the finals let alone winning the league (not the stupid post season cup)

His goal a game ratio is about the same as Dmac
