Great move if you can move Mrdja west. McBreen + Simon + Mrdja's wage spent on a proper, smaller forward = potentiall decent forward line.
It's also funny as Perth signing Mrdja as a key forward helps us all.

Spot on, we dont have a "poacher" type forward, someone in the Mori, Sasho mould.

Only one on our books that I can think of right now is Brady Smith. While he has potential plus, you wouldnt expect him to take the role on yet and chip in with the requisite 8-10 goals that you need from each of your main strikers to go well in the comp.

Foreign spots though? Only McGlinchey on the books right now, right? So Arnold can get a foreign AM and a foreign ST.

If Smith was a goalpoacher he would have scored regularly at youth level but he didn't. I don't even know if he is still on the books?

Of the three yoof players that were re-signed from year one only Lewis has stepped up and he is still a work in progress .Brady seems to have peaked at this stage and has been playing out of the position where you would want a gun poacher to be selected.

HAL you can sign 5 foreigners in total. So you could potentially sign 3 more foreigners. The HAL rules don't denote any AFC/non-AFC limit - it's just 5 foreigners. I dare say they'll change that in time to 4+1 or such though.

ACL rules are 3 non-AFC + 1 AFC player. So if you want to gear yourself for ACL then getting an AFC player is always smart. But then with turnover in a salary-capped league it's hard to plan so far ahead.

It's one thing that's holding back SFC this year. We have heaps of cash + a marquee spot, but to keep within AFC limits can only get two more foreigners in. We could potentially sign 3 (replace Aloi$i, Corica and Kisel - all big $$ / big quality spots), but then we'd have to drop one for the ACL (which I don't think they want to do). Finding good Aus players has become quite tough (GCU implosion pending).

Either way, if Mrdja is gone I'd expect you to get two attacking imports in. TBH if they fire your first XV is still potentially very solid. Issues with depth (i.e. the two junior LBs for little reason), but a step up from last year.

After last year I reckon we need a first fifteen :innocent:

A bit harsh IMO, we were in 4th spot and competed against every team in this league, then we lost our way for whatever the reason was.

IMO we need a finisher, a creator and perhaps specialist RB (but Porter could do a good job there if needed).  From what I understand we could be signing a pretty good midfielder who can also go on the left so fingers crossed competition for our midfield will be strong.

A "pretty good" midfielder??? I hope you are massively understating the skill of this potential signing. We have enough pretty good midfielders already

Should we sign him he'll be a useful addition to the squad

Deej, Ive lost faith in you a bit since you changed your avatar! But yes we need a finisher not in the mould of our current ones, and someone to create said opportunities. Porter should not be playing at RB except as an injury replacement. Some have suggested that Wilko should be playing there, but your premise is that he will stay central with doig? What about Griffiths?

Apparently we are also chasing Paul Reid.

If we are talking about the same midfielder as Deej was talking about he will be a welcome addition. Jury will still be out on him alittle bit though as he hasn't proved himself at any senior level yet.

So is he part of the South American duo? Doesn't sound like he is... so... that means I'm waiting for the announcement of 3 sponsors, 2 awesome Agentinians and 1 skillful midfielder. I'm getting a bit tired of this.

I don't mind Paul Reid. He was very influential to Adelaide's great ACL run.

As to the midfielder... My guess is either Iain Ramsay or Sam Munro from SFC youth. Mick's comment seems to lead towards these guys. I think Ramsay is CM/LM so the rumours favour him here, plus we need LM. Munro has some big wraps, especially by the cove. He impressed me in the SYD v CCM youth match at the SFS I saw last season.
