Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Jets rated a mention in The Guardian yesterday (a feature about teams named after modes of transport).

Any publicity is good publicity??

You're one of the lucky ones to be blessed by his presence then.
It's a massive blow off to the fans, very disrespectful IMO.

Thompson blow for Jets

Friday, 5 February 2010
by Mark Hughes, Sportal

The Newcastle Jets have been dealt a massive blow on the eve of their crucial F3 derby against the Central Coast Mariners with captain Matt Thompson, midfielder Jobe Wheelhouse and striker Sean Rooney all ruled out due to injury.

The loss of their inspirational skipper Thompson, who has been in sparkling form for the Jets, and in-form midfielder Wheelhouse, is potentially catastrophic as the Jets chase fourth spot on the Hyundai A-League ladder and the home final that comes with it.

Newcastle coach Branko Culina took the news in his stride saying the side had plenty of depth and would cope with the losses.

"(Thompson's) been playing under stress for a little while but it just took its toll and the conditions on Tuesday night (against North Queensland Fury) didn't help," the coach said.

"But no-one thought we could go and win two, three and four games in a row and we're still the only team to have done that. So there's a hell of a lot of good things about this team."

"This team won't let Newcastle down, it won't let you down, it won't let me down and importantly they won't let themselves down."

The injuries open the door for midfielders Ali Abbas and Kaz Patafta to show their wares, while veteran striker Sasho Petrovski has been included in the squad for Saturday night's match against his former club in Gosford....

Im starting to get optimisitc about this game. If there is indeed a football god, he will repay the few remaining loyal fans who attend with a derby win.

Get over it you lot !

Tbf to the guy they don't do laps of honour after every run of the mill game in Scotland(and I suspect England).

They might give the crowd a bit of a clap or wave whilst making their way to the tunnel but that's about it.

And most of the fans are gone as soon as the whistle goes anyway (apart from particularly good wins like derbies etc).

Boo hoo the players didn't give us a wave ???

Get a grip.

Agree in a way; it's meaningless if they're expected to do it, even worse if it's in response to complaints that they don't.

On occasions when the fans have put in a particularly good effort / turnout, especially after a game has been turned around with the help of a "12th player," it deserves acknowledgement.

That said, last game of a disappointing season, nothing left to play for, bad weather, players gone, odds stacked against us... expect a dismal turnout. Perfect chance to show some appreciation for the few supporters who have demonstrated loyalty regardless.

Arab, mmmmmm .... tbf, the HAL is in a slightly different situation that in the Old Dart and Auld Reekie. Supporters from the highest and lowliest clubs expect to be treated like c**p over there, It's part of the nature of the game. Sort of like a badge of honour. :)

Seeing that the HAL has only been going for a few short seasons in comparison, and when some of the HAL clubs are struggling, like the Mariners, any act of goodwill towards the supporters and paying public wouldn't go unnoticed ... especially when we've thrown our hat into the ring to host the WC and local support is crucial.

I think you are being a little flippant towards some of the Mariners posters here ... bit of a different mindset perhaps?

We haven't won since November or something and have only won one game at home since 2008???

I think they would be feeling stronger even with those players on the park!

Did we trade any more players today for the remainder of the season? Will we have enough left to field a team tonight and next weekend?

In that sam vein, when Travis and McGlinchey shared the rare bit of gametime together, inevitably they would stand together in the middle of the field and tell each other how well they did while the rest of the team made their way over to the home bay and around the field. They would then exit stage left and up the tunnel without picking their eyes off the lawn in front of them.

A COHESIVE UNIT INDEED

"Flippant" ?..........well if by that you mean "disrespectful" to other posters.....sorry....not my intention 8)

If you mean "treating serious things lightly"....well in some peoples eyes I obviously am......I just don't think this is a serious issue or anywhere near it.

Definetly a "different mindset"..... a cultural thing I think.........I've never really got used to this 'taking the family and a picnic basket and clap and cheer politely' type of thing.......I don't think I ever will.

Sorry.

Anyway most other things about this country are magic (which is why I'm here!).....so I can put up with the above! :)

that's my question too

No doubt there'll be twenty minutes of animated discussion under umbrellas in the centre of the pitch and then maybe they'll decide to wait another twenty minutes.

i disagree, football gods are giving us a helping hand. Make the pitch heavy and difficult for newcastle to play fluent football...letting us kick lumps out of the pricks and snag a messy 1-0 win
