Watch the replay.

I did...one of the most disgusting dives I've seen in quite a while. He brushes his head, Hutcho stops, thinks about it then decides 'oh, I'm hurt...'

If there's one thing that I really, really can't stand our boys doing, it's diving. Worst thing in the game.

Didn't catch the game unfortunately - the streams were buffering badly - but glad we walked out of there with a point.

NFI what we got the pen for and it's always disappointing when we can't convert them, but I guess we didn't deserve that one anyway :p

Good review Wombat.

I thought watching live the tackle from Tiago on Ibini 12 mins in looked nasty. Just watched the fox replay and can't believe the commentator called it 'a great challenge'. 2 footed, studs up and catches Bernie on the left ankle??? Still think Bernie's not up to it as our main go to man. Need someone more physical who can hold up and then play off to Bernie etc. Hearfields not that man either.
Refereeing was ordinary again but thought we were poor. Happy to take the point.

McGlinchey was a standout for me, even if he did hang on to the ball too long at times.

Have to play much better than this if we are going to take points from Heart and Reds.

None of the online replays show that challenge - however, when he was booked a little afterwards I thought he should've been sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Interesting to read your comments about Bernie though, not being up to being out target-man in terms of the physicality of it all.

It took Matty Simon a very long time to figure out how to stop getting shoved around the place as well ;-)

It's a huge leap from NYL to HAL, particularly in terms of how physical it is. Bernie will need to be our go-to guy, and for the most part he hasn't done too badly. When Amini started out he was getting belted all over the park by filthy hacks from anybody who came near him. Bernie's had it easy in comparison.

Heck, IMO he's started off much, much more strongly than Matty Simon did. He seems to do reasonably well at avoiding the physical play - and while we're used to seeing Matty Simon muscle through everybody to get the ball (also why he's got one of the highest foul counts in the league - as well as one of the players who gets fouled against the most!), don't forget that it isn't the only way a striker needs to play. After all, nobody could ever accuse Archie 'too many snipers' Thompson of muscling the defenders off!

Two of em, I think. I remember him walking around defenders in the penalty area and calmly slotting them home at the bay 16 end, I think it was vs Adelaide, brilliant stuff. All down hill from there.

did someone say Nik Mrdja :pirashoot:

Ok my thoughts on the game. I'll take the point. A very sloppy performance from most of the team. GVE actually thought about his tactics and managed to negate our game plan effectively.

Wilko - as solid as we expect him to be. Shut down the attack with aplomb when required.
Patrick - If he is still wanting to play another season sign him up. He is so influential on the team. It is hard to believe that our highest scorer for the side is a defender. Another outstanding game.
Josh - Not as solid last year but still threatening. A decent game IMO.
Porter - What can you say. Allowed Newcastle to score and ineffectual the whole time he was on the paddock. He needs to be shipped back to the youth for the remainder of his contract never to be seen around the first team again. On what he dished upm last night he would struggle to make a Premier League side.
Hutch - Solid as always and puts everything into the game. I thought his dive was pathetic though. I suspect he will be on the bench this week as there is a midweek game against Heart where Rostyn will come back into the position.
Wee Mac - An outstanding game. Absolutely carved the defence up. It's a pity he did not have the support he deserved. Man of the Match for sure.
Musty - I'm still not convinced with him for some reason. For an AM he does not seem to direct the attack enough. More of the play seem to go around him and not through him.
Ollie - A much improved performance on previous weeks. Still not back to his best.
Hearfield - I think he struggled on the pitch last night, but still ran his heart out. I think he needs to play more centrally to be effective. I don't think he has gelled with Bernie. However thought it was a good idea for him to take the spot kick should be made to do extra sessions this week.
Bernie - the guy needs to harden up. He may be a great finisher but he is pushed of the ball too easily. He looked very lazy and flat out there last night.
Kwas - A nice volley towards the end. A pity the keeper was in the way. If we can ship him off at the end of the season I would not be disappointed.
Sainsbury - very composed and mature on the ball. How he did not get a start over Porter I'll never know. We need to keep this guy if we can.
McBreen - Always the enigma. You hold out hope for him to see it slip away.

I think it is time to get Mitchell Duke into the team and give him a few games to see how he goes.

There has been some debate on Facebook about the language from Bay 16. There can be no doubting the passion of the Yellow Army and the effort they make in the community to attract people to the game. Hats off to them. Everyone gets passionate in following their team. There has been a push to try and get some more people into the bay. I don't think this is going to happen based on some of the chants that come from them. Would I take my kids to the area. Not based on what is coming out of there at the moment.

I swear, we all probably swear. There is a time and a place, however if you want to foster the right atmosphere in the Bay you need to change some of your chants. To chant "F8ck off Newcastle" does nothing and only lowers your behaviour to the visiting fans level. It means that parents are less likely to want to take their children to the game based on that sort of chanting.

The club struggles to attract people and bears the brunt of this behaviour when fans are less likely to turn up. Yes there are other places to sit in the stadium but that's not the point. If you want an atmosphere that creates a good vibe and attracts more people, be respectful to those around you. Be more creative with your chants. Find songs and make them humorous. The best chant I heard yesterday was "I'm Mariners till I die, I'm Mariners till I die, I know I am I'm sure I am, I'm Mariners till I die." A non offensive song that kids and their parents can get involved in. It does much more to create the right atmosphere for the area, than swearing and insulting language.

It's up to the older heads within YA to change the behaviour. The younger members look up to them and they should set the example.

My two cents worth anyway.

Agree absolutely with everthing you have said. Just one little difference- I do think McBreen is working better and looking so much stronger and fitter. Would love to see that continuing. But I agree we need a quality striker to replace Simon and one who is prepared to work as hard as Simon. The guys in Bay 7 who were calling out to sub Porter and Bernie were just so funny. So good to know I am not alone in not seeing Bernie as the messiah (not yet anyway- I'll let Arnie work his magic).
As to the swearing- that whole end always looks empty. Although I found it funny last night as it was just my husband and myself there is no way I'd take my family up that end with swearing. We have always taken pride in being the best community club and we should do everything possible to foster that spirit.

. geez there have been some negative comments in this thread ... can't imagine how bad it would be if we had just lost a derby game and we weren't 6 points clear at the top of the table

. i'll admit that it was a very frustrating game at times and we were not exactly at our best ... but the tension that creates is all part of the drama. although i'd love us to play perfectly every minute of every match i certainly don't expect it

. some credit here must go to the jest ... i don't think they played very well either (i admit to being so blinkered i don't pay that much attention to them though) but, they did throw us off our game. this is something we are going to have to adapt to as we are no longer the unfashionable underdogs we are now the hunted

. i think we saw last night what we will miss without matty. recently he had been dropping deep to take the ball linking up with the kiddies in the process ... but the pressure he still exerted on the opposition was phenomenal. not only did this run the opposition defence ragged it took the pressure of the kiddies and allowed them to come into the game

. we don't get this with bernie & hearfield up front ... sometimes this may be ok but it wasn't last night. i think this is where mcbreen may still have a role to play - as a striker recently he has not been great (and had some more opportunities to finish the game last night) but has done an admirable job in behind the strikers. perhaps he is the man to link amini and ibini dropping deep to get the ball (and hold off the defence) as matty had been doing

. the midfield ... hutch has been great but is not as physically dominating as rostyn (particularly in the air). i still feel that oli's first and sometimes last touch is letting him down - perhaps he is trying to do too much. the wee-man has been superb - is he the only one in our team that can move forward with the ball at his feet? unfortunately he really suffered without his hyperactive mate constantly overlapping and giving him an option. aslo if he had a half-decent shot on him we'd be set

. sadly porter just didn't seem up to it ... and i was surprised to see him get a start ahead of trent considering how well he played deputising for the dutch master recently. i have said it before (regardless of whether he is playing out of his preferred position) porter just seems too slow mentally ... i don't know if he doesn't think fast enough or thinks too much and wastes time - but by the time he is ready to make his move all his options are gone

. so we didn't win and we weren't at our best ... we still grabbed a draw and could have got the win the way we finished. importantly we are still 6 clear at the top and undefeated in 13 ... i am happy with that

. now for the hutcho incident

. i don't necessarily see this as a bad thing. play had stopped so i don't see it as a 'dive'. based on the vision shown on the bigscreen bridges clearly gives him a nudge and the intent seems obvious enough ... why shouldn't hutch draw the official's attention to the incident?

. i am extremely disappointed in bridges though ... considering his level of experience i can't imagine why he would do something so stupid (hopefully it is not another 'dealt with on the field - get out of jail free' type of incident). perhaps he was just pandering to the squadron ... which makes it even worse - and more than a little sad

I was disappointed with the result as I thought we had played so much better throughout the season so far. We didn`t control the game as we are now used to doing & credit must go to GVE for his tactics.
Arnie must have had something in mind when preparing his starting line-up, but I think it just didn`t go to plan. The Jets dominated the centre of the park & were able to dictate to us. The pressure they put on our back four forced a number of uncharacteristic errors which continually put us on the back foot.
In saying that though, we had more than enough chances to win the game but we failed to put them away.

Ryan 6 - I agree with Roy Law. He looked shaky & didn`t dominate the box as he has done so in the past.

Porter 5 – Arnie probably gave him a chance to redeem himself after the first game against the Jets but the season lay-off last year & the failure to crack a permanent first team spot has seriously affected his play. His decision making was poor & his failure to cross the ball on a number of occasions showed his lack of confidence.

Wilko 7 – had a strong game himself but I was disappointed that he didn`t do more to lift Porter or to cover the mistake that Porter made.
Dutchy 6 - not his best game & a number of mistakes are creeping into his game. He gave away a few simple balls in the second half & missed a few headers which is very out of character for him.He did however manager to recover well & win the ball back.

Rose 6 – having a very ordinary season compared to last year. With Wee-mac attacking he just couldn`t keep up & we are missing his overlapping runs. Defended well though.
Hutcho 6.5 – played well in patches but he didn`t dominate like Griffo. The “dive” dimished his reputation as a hard man. For mine he should have kept on his feet & laughed at Bridges.

Olly 7.5 – had one of his best games of the season. He worked hard & tirelessly & is getting back to his best.

Wee-mac 8.5 – easily the best player on the park. His attacking runs brought the crowd to their feet & although he lacked support he managed to create chances for us.

Amini 6 – more of a cameo game. He didn`t really get involved & we tended to play around him. Look good when he got the ball but this was rare.

Bernie 6 – totally dominated by TS & easily muscled off the ball. He needs to assist more when not in possession by making diagonal runs drawing, defenders away from the man with the ball
Hearfield 6 - was very uncomfortable when receiving the ball with a defender at his back. Unfortunately, more of an impact player coming off the bench.

McBreen – Although it pains me to say this, he probably should have started in the Simon role. He has shown he can play AM & he has the strength & experience to be the foil for Bernie.

Sainbury – should have started. He defended well & showed his confidence by getting forward on a number of occasions. He wasn`t overawed by TS & ran around him to create chances.

Kwassie – A waste of time. At one stage we had a 2 on 5 in attack & ran away from the ball, then there was the missed chance on the death. Can someone please give him Lawries` number.

Referees: Matt Gillett 6 –some very dubious decisions with some simple mistakes which had the players shaking their heads.
Allyson Flynn 4- just not up to this level at this stage of her career.

Fights happen everywhere you go ancient ..can't be exclusively put towards bay 16 just because of one incident ...was funny to watch and all the crowd including parents with kids around there were having a laugh ...

I hold a different view on the swearing. The people who are in bay 16, week in, week out obviously don't mind. We've gone down the road of heavy self censorship in the past and I can tell you numbers did not boom.

As for the people outside Bay 16, let me put it this way, I'd rather people complain about the nayghty lingo than the noise level.

Clearly the club and stadium may have a different view, but we don't work for them. I don't reckon the players mind, and they would surely rather us be loud and lewd than silent and saintly.

I agree with Dibo. Apart from the f off Newcastle chant (and lets face it, its hard to argue with those sentiments) i thought the support was excellent. I had two of my kids there and neither batted an eyelid.

However the scrap is something we dont need to see. Having said that the coppers eventually got there within 10 mins of it finishing (donuts must have been good). The only thing funny about it was the bloke trying to stop it while still hanging on to his drink.

Even though it does gets the blood pumping and everyone appeared to enjoy it......i'd rather we didnt see that sort of crap at BT and that would stop me taking my kids into bay 16.

. problem being it is often the only chant that people around the ground (coming from someone on the halfway line) can clearly understand ... which only raises questions about what they are saying the rest of the time - so i don't think it will encourage people to participate either (whether in the bay or elsewhere)

. those in 'the bay' obviously get behind it because as i said it is the only chant which i can make out clearly. the problem with that is that the chant they/you (a generic you of the bay) love contains 3 words ... one offensive and another your oppositions name (just as offensive?). something's is not right with that

Can anyone confirm during the Squadron march to the ground that a few Coast fans ripped a flare inside the group then bailed? Rof at the guy trying to run the Squadron boys over. And rof at the Coast fan who was taken away by 4 cops in the middle of the street post-match. That high horse that Coast fans get on after after match, because their fans are so perfect and Newcastle's are so bad? Lololololol.

Lucky the Squadron was there to create some atmosphere.

Hutch should be banned for a few weeks, yeah? What I don't understand is if the referee looks at it and doesn't act on Bridges, hence he's saying that Bridges didn't do a single thing (which he didn't, as seen), then why wasn't Hutch dealt with immediately for reacting like that to something that, as the ref has recognised, didn't happen?
