Sorry all you Porter lovers but he is poor, not A-league standard. He is 2 yds off the pace and gives them his second goal of the season!! Donkey

Hearfield to right back to give us dynamic from the wing and McBreen up front to give us a chance of second ball

The Jets were well worth their point today; if you were a neutral you would have enjoyed the whole contest; a thrilling game, lots of energy and a little spite, and a great tactical arm wrestle between the two coaches. As a Mariners fan, of course, not winning, in particular against the Jets, goes against the grain.
The Jets were much sharper in the first half, their pressing 3-4-3 taking the Mariners out of their stride and they were well worth the Haliti goal coming from an error by the hapless Porter. When the Mariners were given the opportunity to draw level after a mysterious decision by a referee who was flaky all afternoon it was Hearfield who bizarrely stepped up to take the spot-kick. You just knew he wasn’t going to score, a tame shot giving Kennedy some easy keeping practice. The Mariners only raised their game in the last ten of the first half when Arnie switched things around and pushed marvellous Mickey up front out wide. The only way the Jets could get the ball of him was to concede corners which he obligingly placed on Topor’s big melon.
The Mariners pushed forward aggressively in the second half with Arnie mercifully, and ruthlessly, giving Porter the hook and bringing on McBreen for Amini who had been efficient without any great spark. The Mariners equaliser was deserved: their best move of the game setting the impressive Sainsbury clear on the right, his cross inches away from Ibini, and from the corner Bozanic placed the ball on the head of the immaculate Zwaanswijk.
The Jets still had chances – a Griffiths cross nearly putting Haliti in and at the other end only desperate and intelligent Jets defending stopped the Mariners scoring from the havoc created by McGlinchey.
The Mariners are definitely missing the physicality of Matt Simon and suffered from a lack of width and penetration without Pedj Bojic. In the end a hard fought draw was the correct result with the game showcasing the qualities of two fine Australian coaches.
Ryan: surprisingly shaky in the air; a rare poor game from him
Porter: utterly failed the opportunity to show he could pressure Bojic; seemed scared shitless whenever Brockie ran at him. His contract will not be renewed.
Sainsbury: a mature confident performance – his contract will be renewed!
Wilkinson: immaculate throughout, could have been playing in a dinner suit
Zwaanswijk: an inspirational driving force; not his best game but one hell of a competitor
Rose: doubt that he impressed the watching Holger Osiek; did ok but teams are wise to his runs and he finds it difficult to get space.
Hutchinson: one of our best; worked tirelessly, aggressively and intelligently
Bozanic: no faulting his workrate but I would like to see more penetration
McGlinchey: Incredible. Fantastic dribbler of the ball, amazing stamina.
Amini: quietly went about his business, he seemed to be going ok but Arnie hooked him early
McBreen: worked hard but had little impact
Hearfield: I don’t think he is a starter, much better an impact player off the bench.
Bernie: muscled out of the contest by Tiago and Topor; can’t do the heavy shifting on his own
Kwasnik: I really wish he would realise that we need him at his best, and only his best, because this display made no impact
MoM: McGlinchey with mentions to Wilko, Patrick and Hutch

Good report Roy Law in games at home and with an 8 point lead should Arnie give more youth players a chance the likes of porter and kwas have proved time and time again that their not up to the challenge anymore ,the new kid that scored 3 sounds promising and a spot on the bench could have been a reward for his efforts ,if not then i feel he has to sign an experienced striker too many chances are being created and not getting put away ,but hats off to Arnie for changing the tactics a sign of a top coach .

Inexperienced attack showed, our finishing line up should have been our starting.
Mom Zwaany by a mile he and Wilko were towers of strength.
Bernie can score a goal but still not there by a long way, not a worker and easily out muscled.
Musti would be better coming off the bench and running at tiring defences.
Glinch great attacking skills and carved them up, but each time held the ball far too long.
McBreen played so strongly I would start him. He distributed well, ran into space, got in good positions to shoot and defended brilliantly.

Will be interesting to see if any action is taken over Bridges head butt, Hutchi overdid the dive but a head butt is a head butt.

Give the penalties to either of our centre backs.

Patrick - 3
Glinch - 2
Wilko - 1

I will be curious to see what Arnie does next week.

Matty is a massive loss.

FFS, it was the lack of experience in attack that cost us today, out played and out muscled. We only looked like scoring after the changes were made.

What about a glaring mistake from Porter closely followed by a failure to put sufficient pressure on the subsequent cross that led to the Jest's only goal. Add to that a lame spot kick and you've just drawn a game instead of winning it 2 nil.

Anyway, ifs and buts never count. We're bound to have a scratchy game here and there. Let's just hope we maintain consistent good form and don't let the wheels fall off. I reckon we've got the people to do it.

Mcglinchey hold the ball far too long rubbish he knows when to play the ball at the right time that why he is top of the assists chart Mcbreen should have burst the net with the chance weemac and rosie created for him ,as for the head but there was no head but hutch reaction was way over the top .

Ok...here we go.....time for the truth.

We where shit tonight and Arnie f**ked up with his team selection. Porter is a muppet and should be allowed anywhere near the back four...ever. It's like letting Dennis ferguson work in a child care centre....only ever going to end in tears.
Hearfield is as much a natural striker as I am.....wake up Arnie.......he IS NOT a striker. His pathetic penalty attempt was a perfect example of his lack of confidence in the box.

Ryan 7. Not sure what Roy is on about.....I thought he was solid.
Porter 4. Terrible and nearly cost us the game again. Bojic was a huge loss but obviously Hearfield should have switched to RB.
Dutchy 8. Please never retire Patrick!
Wilko 7. Good solid knock.
Rose 6. Gave the ball away cheaply too often.
Olly 6.5. Tried hard but not great. Did some good stuff but also sloppy at times.
Hutcho 7. Apart from pathetic south American roll on the ground from a love tap from Bridges....he was quite good
Amini 6. Average but we went backwards when he went off.
Wee Mac 8.5. Head and shoulders over his teammates tonight. Without his effort we would have lost.
Abini 6. Tried hard but nothing stuck tonight. Still looked likely and easily our most potent striker.
Hearfield 6. Very average. Clearly he is not a starting player and clearly he is not a natural striker in a million years.

Subs. McBreen. 5 average.
Kwassie 6. At least he looked mildly likely to score a goal.
Sainsbury. 5.5. Sorry what did he do that was good????? Looked dodgy at RB.

Arnie 5. Poor set up. Hearfield should have started at RB and either Kwas or McBreen should have partnered Bernie up front. Reaction was poor and scum were shit but we gave them so much confidence with our ineptitude.

Arnie we need to spend some money coz Hearfield, McBreen and Kwas are not good enough to win the league.

Atmosphere was good but what with with the punch up at front of bay 16 at half time?? Looked like it was between coasties only..not a good look.

On a personal level i found the Scummers to be far less annoying than normal. I spoke to two groups of Scummers and they were pretty decent I have to say...so credit to them. I,m sure they probably misbehaved later but I give them top marks from what I saw.

Just want to say a word about the visiting fans - they made a lot of noise, and added to the atmosphere. We were a fair way away from the visiting supporters bays, but heard them very clearly throughout the game.

We also had 6 Newcastle fans in front of us - passionate for their team, but knowledgeable about the game, and gracious.

As for the game? We were poor in the first half - Jets hassled us off the ball and our players couldn't find anyone in space (because no-one was running into space?), but far better second half - in fact a good standard from both teams in the second 45.

McGlinchey was awesome - but too often had no-one to pass - he had to take on multiple defenders himself (and came out on top on a few times).

My 'take-out' from the game? What are we going to do in the seasons to come when Patrick is too old to play...?
