Caceres ----> Wellington?

I'm sad to see him go but he is also a very frustrating player.  On occassions he has looked a class above and othertimes he is frustratingly disorganised.  His finishing is also very poor for a player of his technical ability.
Imho a much better player than Kwas but without Kwas's workrate.
I would have liked to see him come off the bench to spark us when we are struggling but if we get someone better...so be it.

When it comes down to it it looks like we have swapped Tommy P for Kwasnik ..... Unless we do get a new signing :p

eh? we swapped tommy for caceres and lost kwas at the same time in an unrelated deal. then we sorta swap kwas for caceres. we're still in need of a tommy - that may be turn out to be the glinch or even travis.

I held high hopes for Caceres when he signed, had a couple of good games but apart from that was average and towards the end of the season was absolute garbage.

Hopefully he's happier in the Welly where the sun never shines and wind rarely stops blowing :)

Has anyone thought that perhaps Caceres requested a transfer before the season started? So maybe, the club did the right thing for the player and the club?

If he had played every week like he did at home to Melbourne last season this thread wouldn't exist.

Very frustrating to watch when you know what he can do when he feels like it.

The reason I rate Caceres is because he brings something different to the team- sounds a bit like one of your points...
I am not stupid enough to sit back and be content with crap like this. I actually like to enjoy football...cant wait til GC play us, will be the best football at BT since Kawasaki
I think a team like Victory could afford to let go of him...they have AT and more importantly there were about to sign Hernandez. Hernandez >>> Caceres. Would I rather have players like Fred or Hernandez...sure!

Now us....we got...Kwassie
thats sickening. I like hard working players...but you only need so many.

Hey- I will publicly apologise on these forums if Lawrie signs us a fred or a hernandez!
maybe a bit too unlikely...how about if he gets us a player of equal class to caceres (with other additional qualities).
Doubt it though
And I am not buying that WeeMan is his replacement- IMO he is Tommy P's replacement (and wat i good one at that!)

So it's not exactly so much Caceres personally- it's what he represents as a player. He was 100% against the marines stereotype- and i for one love these non-mariners type players!

I think almost everything you have said is lacking in any real analysis...

Look at the last few players we have signed ... Elrich, Huke, Travis, McGlinchey, Wolf, Doig.... they are hardly players like Dylan Mac & Matty or Nil ..

Only Doig has any real size to him and look at the backgrounds of the others ... NOTICE anything .. small fast ball runners and the type of player we WANTED Careres to be ... but that he never delivered...

I'll reserve judgement on Wolf's capability to replace Caceres til he plays a few games and I can see what work he does. Seems that is the idea with the club, too, as they have signed him only for 6 games as injury replacement first. If he does well enough he'll score a contract for the rest of the season.

As for Kareem's comments above, well..... I'm sorry Kareem, but a champion team will always beat a team of champions. In an analogy with what is being discussed here, a team of Kwassis and D-Macs and Wilkos will always beat a team of Caceres.

Not saying that Wilko and Kwassi are champions but their work ethic far outstrips anything I saw of Caceres and in the end, the game is about playing 90 minutes and scoring more goals. If someone like Caceres stops working, the play ends up in the defence line and a greater risk of goals being scored against you.

Caceres, sadly, displayed some great touch at times, but he also was sloppy in his distribution to his team mates - often handing over possession with one shit pass, would not track back to work with the team to get the ball back up there AND he wanted to be a starter, not off the bench. But he only seemed to have 60 minutes of endurance.

Yes, great skill, but little dedication to those he played alongside.

well said, it's a shame too cause Caceres has shown alot of promise and we all know the player he can be.
but he does that lack consistency, all the best Adrian but not against us

Contract Recky, Contract. He got an extension, you know the story. Unless Mrdja stages a personality overhaul and plays out of his skin this season, I seriously doubt he'll be back for the next. Please.

And, after what I saw of Mrdja's effort vs. Brisbane on the TV, he is not as good as he used to be anyway. So, yeah, bide your time and it will happen.

In comparison to Caceres situation, there's probably no club in the A-League interested in talking to the Mariners about taking Mrdja off our hands - or Nik agreeing to a mutual termination.

I reckon half the A-League clubs are probably laughing at the way Mrdja has sponged 4 seasons or more out of us. I know Perth would be happy with the end result (where he played the last season of the old NSL)!

Kareem i think you have been listening too much to les murray.

The type of player caceras is?

He is a shit 10 minutes player 1 game in 3, and shit player 2 in 3.

I hope the lawrie never makes this the "mariners type of player".

If he was any good at consistantly doing what you love him doing, then he would not be leaving. But he isnt. He has the least impact of any player in the squad IMO. Would prefer sully back, even after being retired for so long.. At least he runs 90 mins, defends, and pushes forward for quick attacks without throwing the ball away constantly.

I liked what caceras could do. But what caceras could do, was not the player caceras is. Kwas will skin more people in a game, and make more passes, and score more goals, and make more complete crosses than caceras, but as andy harper said when he scored the ripper off the outside of his left boot, if he was brazillian you would be hearing about it for weeks.

Kwas is not the worlds best player, and most people here do not rate him. But i think the stats, as well as the anecdotes will back him up as having far more of an impact than your south american flair deity caceras

for a refund?
and besides what kind of fan would that make me?
but thank God I am true enough in my opinions- and that I value entertaining football- just have to hope it will change.
I understand we can never match teams like Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne in certain aspects. But regardless our player management is baffling at times!

Kareem, what you deem is entertaining football may not be what other people think is entertaining so you shouldn't make assumptions on what people like and dislike.

Personally I find a million passes along the backline and through the midfield without any forward play incredibly boring and the more direct stuff alot more entertaining.

I also find constant loss of possession from a player frustrating even though that player might have a couple of nice looking stepovers or fakes. Those players should be weeded out of the game because they do nothing for the team, are selfish in their attitudes and do more harm then good.

As a supporter, what I like to watch is my side being competitive, hard to beat and (hopefully winning).

If that means we grind the other side into the ground while winning 1-0. So what.

However, as a viewer/neutral watching someone else, I want to see 5-5 draws.

SFC fans (for example) will whine about how boring and 1 dimensional we are whilst not noticing that their side plays the same way.

Its called football

its funny when they are confronted with it though isnt it.. like harper showing that sydney used more long balls than us on fox sports fc...

TBF, NQ play a much better passing game than we do. Infact most teams play a better passing game than we do. Does it equate to exciting football, no, because a fair whack of the most exciting games in the A-Leagues history involve us. It does though, require a level of skill which has not been present in our side untill now.

Can not wait to see what the 2 new guys can provide to this skill level as well.
