If last night (and the last 4 years) is anything to go by, then Brisbane will keep up their proud tradition of being shit at home and unstoppable away.  Probably lose another preliminary final just for kicks.  ;)

You watch, we'll trounce them up there in Round 4, but stumble to a 1-0 loss down here (after Breeze ignores 7 hacks by Moore and Tiatto, each) or a stupidly high scoring draw where we equalise right at the death.

More things change the more they stay the same etc.  :p

I think we might have enough hard bastards now to deal with either of them(Matty, Doig, Travis...actually I think everyones hardened up a bit this season).

There was a lot of steel out there against MV. Very hard which will probably see a fair few yellow card suspensions me thinks.

Well, we seem to have more competent replacements at the ready should players cop suspensions.

If the injury toll stays below the casualty toll of the US Army during Gulf War 2, we should have a replacement ready to go who is almost near the same level of player as the one they are replacing. Me likes that idea, as I was always a bit nervous when a rusty O'Grady took the place of Boogs or Heff in the backline, or we had a hobbling Owens or Gumps as replacements, in seasons past.

HMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm if you listen to the media, the Mariners, are a tad above cavemen status when it comes to playing..

Heard it all before, Fozza analysis was one lower English league defender signed, coached by a Scotchman ... Wow we are gone... NOTHING could be further from the truth ..as FFC Mariner only if we change our name to Athletico Gosford, would the media give us some cred.

Our true position, we have signed five players and still have a number on trial.. Signings to date  are Michael McGlinchey (an Attacking mid /striker), Shane Huke (defensive mid), Nick Travis ( box to box mid), Chris Doig (central defender), Matthew Lewis (youth league mid), plus we still have a number of people trialling.

McGlinchy was offered a place at Man U & Celtic just over three years ago, took Celtic and has played  for Scotland under 20. Injury has kept him out the last couple of years ... Travis will be the surprise packet of the league fast, great pass ,and again young only 22. Both players attempting to rebuild there stalled career after injury. Many football folk have judged Huke as a potential Halroo he is very good at closing play down an excellent signing. Doin & Travis have an essential ingredient all clubs need and the Mariners have lacked to date. They are players with a little mongrel in em.  Returning from injury, Elrich, in 2006 the next on the plane to the WC has a lot to prove. Mrdja another highly skilful player, said to be free from injury this season.

We will make the finals and our midfield is very similar to the Man U midfield that took the treble..

Beckham, Scholes, Keerne, Giggs ... Elrich, Travis, Huke & Caceres... Elrich will provide those balls into a fast running attack of Simon & McGlinchy, Travis is like Scholes a great box to box mid with a little mongrel. Huke like Keno our defensive hub, and finally Caceres to attack and run at players like Giggs...

It is an interesting and has gone under the radar that the Mariners have signed two players..  three years ago. who where possible bench players in the EPL.. but their careers as I said before stalled by injury.. our medical staff believe they have recovered. This strategy of using young players attempting to prove they are EPL ready could or will add a dimension to the Mariners the like of which the A-League has never seen before..

Meaning we have two players in Travis, McGlinchy who will be playing to prove they are ready to return to the EPL.. Huke also wanting to go back to Europe... add the return of Elrich who wants his Socceroo right mid position back the Mariner signings have the potential to tear the A-League apart.

In closing every year we are written off as having no hope .. this year it has been a constant attack.. we dont mind being underdogs .... We do tire of the some of the Media and there analysis .. Not because there may not be some grains of truth in what is said more when things are done very well no comments are made. The perfect example the Mariners Centre of Excellence a 60 + million investment in technical improvement rarely if ever talked about.

I remember a chant from Hal 1 that is as true today as it was in Hal 1 It goes

Nobody rates Us

      WE dont Care

Many tho I was one hand typing when I wrote this .... BUT ..... quotes from the above are they turning out to be true or not ...

...." is an interesting and has gone under the radar that the Mariners have signed two players..  three years ago. who where possible bench players in the EPL.. but their careers as I said before stalled by injury.. our medical staff believe they have recovered. .......I also said ..." Returning from injury, Elrich, in 2006 the next on the plane to the WC has a lot to prove. Mrdja another highly skillful player, said to be free from injury this season"""

I believe that Travis, McGlinchy will be the along with Huke when he returns will be the best midfield in the A-League... On tonight's form and with LM comments that Mrdja is getting back to form and once he scores he will go on and score a hat full... HHHHHMMMmmmmmmm ... LM said the same thing about Matty just before he exploded....Elrich ... some tough judges out there Yaaaa I agree he did not have the best 20 mins ... BUT & it's a big BUT ... he tried to hold the ball, play out of difficult positions and tried to beat people all on his wrong side ... it may not have been pretty and he made some bad mistakes ... but the signs are there he is trying to recapture that 2006 form ... if he can get near that form ... If Mrdja can stay fit and return to form ... we will go very close to winning this season ...

Just on Elrich ... I have a soft spot for him ... but if his forms come backs and to me he is trying ... that it is not always paying off ... is totally different to if he was just hoofing the ball up the park and not tracking back in defense.... Remember he has had almost 3 years of injury ... he is worth match time  a while longer IMO ...

We might not do it pretty but as long as we man up and have a go, we will be a handful.

Brisbane were do able if we could have been bothered

I also have a soft spot for him - but maybe he needs to go back to the NYL and regain some form and confidence.

That's not a bad idea .. it is amazing what confidence can do to your game .... and also what a lack of confidence can do as well...

I'm not sure whether he's observing Ramadan?  that would explain his lack of fitness over the last 2 weeks or so....Let's see if he picks up after the 19th of September... can't play football on an empty belly?

If El Masri can do it so can Elrich. Just wake up at 4:30am and have a feed, large Mighty Angus meal for example (it's a little bit fancy)

Yea - we are sitting a lot higher than most thought before the season. Two good games, two other good defensive efforts and one shocker.

We still have Doig to come back, Huke to come back, Wolfe to play for a contract and Crowell. Things don't look too bad.

Maybe another striker?

I'm an idiot savant without the pesky savant bit
With any luck... Ahmed"Falawful" Elrich will grab Disco by the hand and bugger off to anywhere else

AND  "LM comments that Mrdja is getting back to form and once he scores he will go on and score a hat full..."  i'm starting to think The Guv thinks were all drongo's whom aren't watching the same games as him

No it doesn't. The Jets Scum are far to high up the ladder for my liking. Swap them with Fury and I'd be happier.  ;D

I'm not sure if it was just the camera's or my memory or what, but does Elrich look a lot leaner than when he first came to us? the bloke looks about 10 kilo's lighter than how i remember him.

If Mrdja does find the net, I think I agree with Lawrie - it'll all come on for him like it did at the start of the season we won the league. He's clearly got loads of ability and he's downright frightening when playing up to the level he is capable of achieving. But we've been waiting a long time to see that again, and he isn't even showing shadows of that at the moment.

Ahmad's horribly out of form, and he has been since before Ramadan. What's more, Tarek seems to be going along just swimmingly...

Of course, he might be trying to build his confidence...............
