Not quite - there's a backlog of RATs that have come in a lump. There'll be an apparent spike as the backlog resolves and in a few ways we'll have real numbers. Keep tracking PCR results for apples to apples indications, or better yet, hospitalisations, ICU admissions and patients requiring ventilation.

Gotta say and from this I give a little credit to the ACT Chief Minster and the SA premier .... but all the other leaders have played so much politics we as a nation can't seem to get a national approach.... between Kim Ju McGowan and let it rip Dom ... and catch up Scotty ... we are in a shambles today with catch up Scotty all over the place.

Todays numbers are simply unbelievable.... on the world scale we are in the top 10 cases per day... today number 6.

This from a few months back when we were number 136 in cases world wide and today we are number 42 and rising fast...

Side note... if you have not seen the 2022 Lamb Ad google it ... its worth the view especially the last bit as it shows WA a different country to Australia..

OK put the ad here.... makes fun of cov..

Unlike other countries we’ve had limited exposure to covid over the last 2 years. Now we are vaccinated it’s time to let it rip and with the weaker omicron out numbers should and are higher because we are catching Omicron first.
Also there is doubt over the effectiveness of the jabs on transmission of omicron.

They didn’t get hear how they should of but letting the weaker variant with vaccination run wild is actually one of the better scenarios. I know some don’t want to hear it but is.

Also iso needs to be reduced to just whenever you feel better.

i got a mild flu and am better within 3 days and now have to stay home for another 5 days before my clearance ends. Yet critical industries are being sent back. It should be everyone back once you feel up to it.

It is a short flu in the majority of cases

Additionally Australia had 50 deaths today. It's predicted to get worse before better.
50 deaths a day is not sustainable, or ok.

The belief it's an either/or scenario is nuts. There are plenty of middle roads between full lockdown and let it rip. Let it rip has also been worse for the economy than full lockdowns.
Let it rip is and was always a mistake.

The people who are dying are predominantly old and/or sick. They dont contribute to the economy and arguably are a cost.

If anyone thinks that isnt a silent factor among right wing politicians.................

If people were dying who were in their 40's in affluent areas, you bet your life it would change but elderly sick people? Nah.

There will be no lockdowns. None

People have died in their 20's, 30's and 40's mate, where did you get that info from stating all of the 56 deaths today were "old and/or sick" I can't find the stats anywhere?

Delta is still rampant and mixed in with Omicron, letting it rip is looking like a f**king disaster of a decision and only looking to get worse.

This is before Omicron really took off:

There are lockdowns now.

Maybe not mandated lockdowns but the guys who wanted to open up for the sake of the economy have basically stopped it in their tracks. People are taking personal responsibility because the federal and state in NSW have not taken theirs.

There have been 826 deaths in NSW since the pandemic started - 163 of those in the last two weeks - just short of 20%.

I give credit to both of those but am happy that most of the premiers have done what their responsibilities were. The notable exemption is NSW. The other states have listened to the health officials first - not business.

Sorry but business people are the last people you should be talking too. Not because they don't understand their business - they do. But they are too worried about the next quarter, their profits and their shareholders. There outlook is too short-sighted. They look at a micro-economic view - not a macro-economic view. You won't have an economy without a work force so you have to look after that first.

Unfortunately our state and federal treasurers also have a micro-economic view - when their view should be much broader. Garbage is not being collected, Urgent surgery put off, Supply chains are compromised. Teachers and kids will not be vaccinated by the start of term - maybe by the end of term - but expected to turn up. While Omicron might be mild in the 5-12 year olds anyone that has had kids know that they are very efficient carriers of viruses. Morrison wants kids back at school for the sake of the economy which will inevitably mean a greater problem with the economy. It will spread like wildfire through the schools and back to the families. If we think things are bad now - they will only get worse.

When Perrottet chose to let it rip there was enough data around to know that Omicron was more infectious. The majority of the data was from predominantly younger vaccinated people or previously infected which chose the media to call it mild. As it progressed and vaccines wore off the mildness has been called into question. It is still a serious disease (Yes milder than Delta because it doesn't seem to get as deep into the lungs). NSW chose to remove restrictions quickly which has has caused such a spike - not only here but along the east coast, If we had slowly removed restrictions our health system wouldn't be overwhelmed now.

We're still talking about being 'highly-vaxxed' but it was recognised some months ago that the Pfizer and Moderna should have been a 3 jab regimen and that the AZ jabs wane markedly after 4 months. So basically fully-vaxxed means the third dose - currently just over 20%

Over the period of Covid the Premiers as a whole have done reasonably ok.. The Federal government less so. Dragged kicking and screaming to Jobkeeper. Poor on border security. Poor on quarantining. Poor on vaccines, poor on PCR tests, poor on RATS, lessened job keeper tooo early. They did provide assistance to Chemists and GPS to hire admin staff to help with vaccines and tests - that has now been removed while throwing more people into the mix. Don't worry though - I've just seen more ads of how they are supporting chemists and GPs

Just a comparison of how we are going now compared to earlier

I love the fact the the FreEDumBs protesters allowed the police to herd them around - while they protested about not being treated as sheep.
My sadness is what has gone wrong with our society that these (mainly) white, male, uneducated feel so alienated from society (see Trump D and Brexit)
They are horribly manipulated by the hard right but even so

100%. Think about the people who used to be teachers, nurses or whatever, and resigned rather than get vaccinated - they've often been cut off from family (or cut themselves off) as well as losing their jobs.

They've chosen this, sure, but while their lives are being destroyed the likes of Joe Rogan are sitting on USD100m deals with Spotify to spew the misinformation that leads them down this spiral.

I want to know how we reach out to these folks and bring them back.

Some of the dislocation comes from broader economic trends - there are bugger all jobs left in manufacturing, for example, so a lot of people for the last 40 years have seen good solid union jobs disappear, replaced with 'gig' economy bullshit jobs. Job security has disappeared.

The Harvester judgement in 1906 created the notion of a ‘living’ or ‘family’ wage, set at a level which would supposedly allow an unskilled labourer to support a wife and three children, to feed, house, and clothe them.

For decades - beyond living memory - the economy was set up so that a single breadwinner (invariably a man) could on the back of their secure full-time job pay off a mortgage and sustain a family.

*That* is the past that people wish for.

They look at the world now where the vast majority of families need two incomes to service a mortgage, full-time work as a proportion of the workforce is rarer than ever, the pension is set at a level that everyone is breathlessly told to have a million dollars saved in retirement or else they'll be in poverty - they don't want that.

That's the foundation of disenchantment.

And then the same smartarses who tell them they're better off than ever because they have a record-breaking mortgage and there are so many jobs out there that they're working two of them say they have to get a vaccine too or else they lose their jobs and these folks say "enough".

And they turn to someone like a Joe Rogan who says it's actually pretty simple and that all they need to do to break the back of all this bullshit is to take a stand on masks, vaccines, or whatever else. It's horseshit but Rogan's getting paid by Spotify so he'll say whatever pumps his numbers up.

They want to believe it because they've been sold prosperity and got a shit sandwich, so why would you listen to the same people who you feel got you in this mess?

The even less savoury than Joe Rogan will blame China or immigrants or Jews or whoever else they need to try to get you to hate and hate and hate, because that's what they deal in, and that's why neo-Nazi groups are all over the antivax movement.

Maybe the place to start is slowly unf**king the economy and giving people some sense of security. Take away the sense of desperation. Try to give back some of the sense of community that has been lost.

But ultimately, we're going to have to reach out.

^^^^^^

There is growing sense by some caused by a combination of Climate Deniers / Anti vax / Cov deniers who are often the same people... that it has to do with the ability of a person to handle chaos....

For people that struggle with chaos they seek simple solutions... look for people that offer simple solutions to comp[ex problems... no matter how complex an issue is they seek a simple solution...

Decades of talk back, and more recently podcast by presenters challenging experts across all fields has led to experts being labelled as elites.... and the Alan Jones / Joe R's of this world preach there are very simple answers and we are being mislead ...

Try and talk about law reform in any sensible manner today in Australia to see groups applying or wanting simple solutions ....

These are the same sort of people that enjoy the "''Hard Man""' Authoritarianism leader as the rules and punishments are simple...

Specifically to what FFC & Dibo posted.. its a real worry as these same people are also very loud and feel they are right and wrap themselves up in a cone of entitlement combined with almost a righteous belief they are right and fighting the good fight ..

No easy solution to solve... no pun but its complex...
