No, I think it is more about rotating players and particularly about tactics.

I think, but can't be sure, that MacDonald has played some minutes in ACL but this could be his run on debut.
Arnie is being realistic - unlikely to get a result in Japan; rests tired veterans and gives young players excellent experience. Still has to cement home final for play-offs and...with a view to the Premier's Plate...it isn't over til it is over.

hmm, i would like more focus on the ACL now then a refocus on the GF as it approaches. not giving up on the plate altogether but think the others deserve more priority all things considered

that said i reckon he's giving Pedj & Rose rests for 2 reasons - first they're well deserved rests and without them they'll stutter to the end. second is tactical. whilst it the fast over-lapping wingbacks work well in the A-League i don't think it does as well in the ACL. i think he'll be going with a modified approach in this game and still with the intent to win

Arnie is right, we did look mentally fatigued. And so is Hassett, fatigued with good reason. And it's not getting better anytime soon. So change is a very good idea. Just not sure how we will cope with the loss of both our wingbacks...

The last two ACL campaigns i have had no expectations, just hoping we play well enough to be proud of and that we dont get blown off the pitch.

I know we have a heavy schedule but to rest 3 of our better attacking options ( Sterj dont count ) in a game i feel we can win and give us a an actual chance of progressing annoys me a little. Premiers Plate is 99% gone now, would have rather rested the boys on the weekend ahead.

Anyway hope im wrong and the young boys step up.

The Game
Both sides head into this undefeated in Group H.
Kashiwa got their ACL campaign off to a perfect start with a 1-0 victory over Chinese outfit Guizhou Renhe and sit on top of the group.
The Mariners, meanwhile, had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Korean team Suwon Samsung Bluewings in their campaign opener after Nick Montgomery failed to convert a late penalty.
A victory for either team in this clash will deliver top spot of the group a third of the way into the group stage of the tournament, so motivation in both camps won't be low.
Both sides are coming off disappointing losses in their domestic leagues with Central Coast succumbing to Sydney FC 2-0 and Kashiwa Reysol copping a 3-0 thumping from FC Tokyo and will be desperate to turn it around on Wednesday.
For most of the A-League season, the Mariners have been a well-organised and hard-working side and Kashiwa will have to be wary of their preference to attack from out wide and their propensity for starting attacking moves from defence.
The Big Issue
Central Coast: Can the Mariners recapture that winning feeling? The defending A-League premiers have failed to win any of their last three matches in all competitions - including consecutive domestic losses.
Graham Arnold's men enjoyed a seven-match undefeated run prior to their current slump which has cost them top spot in the A-League and delivered a huge blow to their aspirations of back-to-back Pemiers' Plates. But the Mariners are a quality side and there are few better stages to get back in the winners' circle on than in the ACL.
Kashiwa Reysol: The Japanese side got off to a flyer in the ACL with a vital away win against Guizhou Renhe but the challenge for them now is to capitalise on that performance by banking another three points in front of their home fans against Central Coast.
Kashiwa has done all the hard work early by travelling to China and claiming a victory but a lot of that good work will be undone if they fail back that up with another triumph on Wednesday.
The Gamebreaker
Central Coast: Daniel McBreen remains the leading scorer of the A-League with 15 goals but, like his team, the veteran has been out of form recently and has failed to find the back of the net in his last three outings.
The 35-year-old has shown on many occasions this season how dangerous he can be with a hat-trick and three doubles to his credit and the Mariners will greatly benefit from a fired-up McBreen in Japan.
Kashiwa Reysol: Newly signed Cleo hasn't taken long to prove his worth to the side since crossing from Guangzhou Evergrande, scoring three goals from his first three games with the club including the winner against Guizhou Renhe and a brace in their J.League victory over Kawasaki Frontale. The Brazilian is in hot form and will need to be contained otherwise he could decide yet another match.
Prediction: Kashiwa Reysol 1-1 Central Coast
Travelling to Japan is never an easy assignment and the Mariners are certainly going to find it difficult to come away from the clash with a win. Central Coast will be greeted by brisk conditions with the expected temperature to be in the low teens come kick off.
A draw would be appear to be the best result they could hope for and if they play to the best of their ability are more than capable of achieving it.

I disagree with Arnie when he says that our match fitness may give us an advantage over the Japanese team.
Pellegrino hasn't played since the 26/1/13 , Caceres hasn't played since the 9/2/13, Morton and
MC Donald haven't played since the 17/2/13. Even Brent Griffiths hasn't really played much.
I'm sure that they'll still perform. Go the Mariners!!

Anyhow, not trying to be an arse, but it doesn't matter what he says it just matters how we play. By which I mean, do we start putting the ball in the net. I feel like I'm harping on about Duke more and more these days, but i'm very pleased he will be getting a start. He will prove a handful I'm sure and has the energy to backup effectively. But more to the point, I think he has the ability to be a top young striker, certainly the best of the Aussies in the HAL and should not be an impact player, but a key player for the rest of the season if we hope to win anything this year.

Interesting to say the least. At first I was really, really disappointed, but it kinda makes sense to be solid defensively from the outset (no aggressive runs from RB & LB) then bring on Bernie, Mike towards the end and try to grab a result.

Don't think it will work, I think we are really inviting Kashiwa to pull us apart from the start, but you never know. I'm prepared to give Pellegrino this match to show me something. Not sure why
