Considering some of the players who were rested for tonights' game and the general track record of Australian sides in Japan, the Mariners gave a good account of themselves tonight.

Had McBreen been playing he would have taken the penalty, and it could be a different story. I would rather see the team get their shit sorted when taking a penalty from the spot now then have it cost them when it gets to the business end of the ACL/ the finals...

We were definitely in that one for most of it, it's just a few sloppy passes here and there that let us down really. Not to single him out as others did it too, but when Hutch gave the ball away they were onto it so fast, 2 passes into the back of the net.

If Weemac had been on for Pellers in the first half he would have carved up, given the space Pellers had.

We did ok. Dutchy scored a great goal and nearly had another. Defence needs to look at some Videos of Musc**t in his time at Victory........and look at how he closed downs players in the box.....and most importantly gets in the challenge to block the shot.
Hutcho was usual villian but still miles better than Pellers.
Weemac looked the business when he came on.
caceras showed potential. Duke is very decent.

We did OK? o_O
A draw would've been OK
BTW, does anyone here know of a professional football team becoming champions of anything after fluffing 5 penalties in a row at the pointy end of the season?

I do love how you always put a positive spin on things Wombat, damn i wish i could feel the same after another loss.
We have a tight budget and a hectic schedule, but its so disappointing to me that the club and coaching staff seem to undervalue how big the ACL is.

Think of the publicity, sponsorship value and prospective future players we could attract if we did well in the ACL.

To start with only 4 or 5 of our normal 11 ??? o_O

Is that true?

Adelaide made the ACL final in 2008 and then the year after
Adelaide United began its pre-season without a financial owner; Nick Bianco relinquishing his A-League license back to Football Federation Australia (FFA).[8] Regardless of this situation, the FFA ensured that Adelaide would have the funds available to recruit in the off-season and to maintain the club, whilst they would negotiate the new ownership deals. Adelaide United managed to secure major sponsors Modern Solar as well as Jim's Plumbing for their 2009–10 season.

"While displeased with having lost to Reysol, Central Coast Mariners coach Arnold outlined after the game that the key difference between the two sides on the night was the inspired Domingues – a player believes is better than anyone currently playing in the A-League.

“The only difference was their number ten, Domingues,” Arnold said. “He’s total quality.”

“His first finish was a great finish. We gave away two cheap goals, and in international football if you give away possession like that you get punished.”

“(But) the third goal from them was absolutely world class,” he said.

Arnold praised his “kids” who again proved to themselves they can compete on the international stage.

“We had five 21-year-olds out there and the performance and the fight tonight was very good, it was more like I expect,” he said.

“It’s an experience for the younger boys and they’re only going to get better out of it.”

“We finished the game with six or seven young boys. Sure, it hurts to lose away from home but against the top side we’re not embarrassed.”

Despite only having one point from two AFC Champions League games thus far, Arnold believes reaching the second round of Asia’s premier club competition is still well within his side’s reach.

Gaining three points against Guizhou Renhe in Gosford on Wednesday 3 April will place the Mariners well in the reckoning to advance to the next phase of the tournament, especially given Korea Republic’s Suwon Bluewings recorded a scoreless draw at home to the Chinese Super League side this evening.

“We’ve got to win our homes games now,” he said. “We’ve got the Chinese at home and we’ve got the Japanese Reysol at home as well.”

“I am sure we can do that.”

Hopefully Arnie has realised by now that we are very capable of beating all of these teams. The so called "skillful, fast and bigger budget" of these clubs has not been reflected on the pitch as the press makes it out to be. If you've watched the game and taken your own conclusions instead of listening and consuming what foxsports commentators say, you'll probably agree that we're more than capable of qualifying to the next round. Yesterday, Arnie started the game by fielding 6 aussie x under 21s players which between all of them don't even earn what 1 x Kashiwa player earns. These inexperience players ( at international level & some at HAL level ) didn't let us down against some of the best that Japan has to offer plus 3 experience and quality brasilian players. We were never second best during the game and tbh their goals were created by our errors which Domingues took full advantage of.Very promising performances by Caceres ( imo our best while on the field).Should be given more game time and no doubts that he should be in the starting 11 in the very near future. I would like Arnie to give him more freedom to push forward.Hutch or Mont should play fully defensive.Dukey enthusiastic as usual. It was difficult for him due to our defensive structure and approach.Despite the result, full credit to our players. With the full squad + changes and a more aggresive attacking approach implemented by Arnie specially for home games, I don't see why we shouldn't make it to the next round.
