Porter used to take wicked free kicks for lightning. Not sure why he doesn't do them for Mariners.

Agreed. He is about the only one who can get the ball over the wall and then down again. Pedj and Disco simply blast it and hope.

Sounds good. A big bloke to hold the ball up and a smaller nippy bloke to run through the holes.
The defence will also know (now) that they can't afford to fall off Nik to cover Kwassie, because Nik has shown that his left foot is back.
Pity he hasn't got a right foot as well.

Be good to have them both lining up, the wall won't have seen much of Porter's abilities so the 'keeper will be surprised to see it coming over the top after expecting a low Nik drive.

Exactly my thoughts. I suggested that when Nik had the 2nd free kick the other week against Phoenix. He tried going to the other side to catch the keeper off guard, but all he needed was a guy like pedj or hutch standing over the ball.

Talking about Nik and his free kicks, who else has been getting them anywhere close lately?

Pedj

Porter takes a wicked free kick - like to see them give him a go

The bloke has never scored a goal in 30+ apperances and sometimes makes Kwas look composed.

I dont see him as the answer.

For my money Porter looks like he doesn't really think he should be out there  and I agree with him!

Had a chat today with a source inside the camp ;)
Travis was definitely sick.
No conspiracy going on, so we can drop the "intervention" talks.
Presuming tarining and all goes well, hopefully we'll see Travis back against GCU this week.

You wont

??

It must be a hinderance watching games with that blinfold on. Porter has just played the 2 best games he has ever played for the club.

And as for goal-scoring, he's played as a defender most games I've seen, and defenders don't score often -- refer the number of goals Wilko's scored.

. my memory (often wrong) tells me it was nik and sash playing as strikers ... kwassie would have been in the mids ???

. earlier in the season when nik was under a lot of pressure, kwas was the one copping all his agression it seemed ... it was the personalities that i thought would bring that partnership undone or leave it unfulfilled

We lost five on the trot without Doig.
We are undefeated since he returned.

Says it all really.

Back four of Boogs, Wilko, Doig and Heff is as good as any in HAL.

. not saying you are wrong but not the most convincing argument ... we have played the only two teams that were below us on the table and still conceded in each game

. plus throughout the record run people were suggesting heff's mind was elsewhere on occasion and that boogs should (and i'll quote) 'f**k off and f**k off now'

. does anybody else have an opinion on doig's contribution? roy law has suggested he was not doing a very good job on owusu. not suggesting he is rubbish, but has he really made _that_ much difference?

Perhaps those people suggesting that Boogs should 'f**k off and f**k off now' should heed their own advice following his MOM performance on Friday?

I'm pretty sure he was left mid. Heff and him were untoucable down the left hand side especially one game (half a game anyway) against Wellington at home.

Are you Boogs' mum? People are entitled to their views. I don't think he's been that flash this season at all. I don't think he was MOM on Friday either, Nik beats him to that honour (another stormer - doing the right thing if he's after a new contract with us, or anyone else for that matter...).

MOM performance? It was reasonable, he did get skinned quite a few times. Others played much better, including Porter, who I believe is coming into his own with the move into midfield. Pity he wasn't able to score, though his shot with his left foot made the keeper really work for it, which is more than I can say about some of Nik's attempts.

Wasnt even close to MoM

He should go for the simple fact that he has chosen to leave the club (and fair enough if thats whats best for him).

We need to be rebuilding for next season and need to try others (say Sherlock) at RB for the last few games to see if he is good enough.

Boogs has always been a favourite of mine ever since I watched him busting his ass at CCL to get back to fitness and prove himself.

however, sentiment has no place in football or any other workplace. you want out? Off you go.

We need a RB that is going to pass the ball short and move up the sideline not hoof the f**k out of it 9 times out of 10.

Boogs is a typical long ball CB. We've outgrown him (i hope) and have been trying to play the ball out from the back this year moreso than other years.

He has gotten better than previous weeks but i still think he should have been ditched and another CB brought in from yoof.

He was better this week but still poor by his standards. He has seemed to hoof it a lot this year and I'm not sure why. I have always found him quite comfortable and composed on the ball but there is a lack of confidence there at the moment.

It might also have something to do with the midfield not making themselves available. I noticed in a Sydney game recently that Kisel and Cole always give each other options. When Gan replaced Kisel all he did when Cole got the ball was sprint up the field and stand near the left back and then Cole just had to resort to lumping it up field. I suppose its hard to play the short pass when there is no one there to pass to.

At last! Someone who knows about football.

From what I have seen, Sherlock isn't the best at passing. He seems to do a few long balls as well. Very good at tackling, though.
