Our defence has yet to recover from losing Viddies experience and organising ability.

He was slow, playing on pretty much 1 leg but ran the back 5.

Bozza took over that role but at the moment, we dont have a leader at the back who's ability to read the game and settle those around him makes us defensively better.

Muscat, Costanzo, Moore. Anyone else seeing a pattern here?

Yep, I wish Lawrie had been the one to pick up McKain or Thwaite. We really need an experienced central defender.

Lawrie actually said as much at the post season Marinators function didnt he?

Said we needed a Musc**t, a leader who could intimidate refs and organise the side.

I just dont see Wilko in that role (or Boogs either TBH). Players like that arent all that freely available and thats why I think Costanzo for a season or 2

not from a reliable source or anything some bloke at the club reckons he's mates with a scout or something.
Do you think he's still got enough to carve the aleague or will he go bout as well as jardel??

I think Gumps could organise the side on the field. He's got the drive, the energy and the get up and go. He's also settled, even though he might get the cranks, he's not going to lose his cool.

like the jets wud stand a chance of gettin ronaldo to the a-league. he wud still shred the a-league i reckon but i read that he was lookin to join man city or wanted to join them anyway. ronaldo can stil ask for a lot of money from european clubs so couldnt see him lookin twice at the jets

Kev do you see anyone out there fitting the bill .......cause we are leaky at the back Heff & Clarky may stiffen it up a little when they return..... but we have looked hopeless all year and at times it has been luck that has kept us in the game.

Kev run this by you drop Jedi back into a central defense and Grump's to play in from of Jedi, sort of Jedi playing a stopper's role with Grump's playing in front..... with instructions to Grump's if Jedi pushes forward Grumps to slot in behind to cover his run.

Since when did we cover players who pushed forward?

All forward runs, all the time ftw!

Jedi played a game or two - or part of a game or two - at CB last season.

He 'did the job' but wasn't looking comfortable there.

Also I don't rate Gumps' defensive game too highly he does seem to hang off players a fair bit and track them, rather than go in and tackle.

Owens would = Porter anywhere in the backline, so he's no solution to covering at DCM either.

Osman would be a better choice at DCM, but then most here would prefer to see how he goes at RB in place of Porter.

If Clarkey returns at RB, then Osman would be free to move to DCM if you want Jedi to move into CB.

Just my 2c worth...Kevrenor may have different views of course.

Of course, my views are always different .. even to some of my own ...
:vhappy:  ha, hah, hahahhhahha!!

Damn, Miron picked up Thwaite!!!

I don't like moving players into unfamiliar roles .. not more than one per game at least ... what we need is an experienced central defender to give depth and put pressure on Boogs and Wilko.

As for this weekend .. unless Heff comes off the bench I would replace Boogs with an I believe fit again Clarky. He has played that role at state league level a lot and still has some pace.

Surely pedj will hit CB unless clarkey is fully fit. Then id keep pedj on the left clarke in the middle.

Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar on the hunt for new A-League stars
December 02, 2008
....
Vidmar was a notable absentee when United touched down at Adelaide Airport on Monday after the Reds' great escape at Newcastle on Sunday.

It's believed Vidmar was locked in talks with Jets keeper Ante Covic, midfielder Kaz Patafta and Central Coast striker Nick Mrdja for possible contracts next season
