Hardly the bigest news of the off season but Tarka has re-signed with Glory. Very good centre half in my humble opinion.

I really hope they build a decent squad this year to get back all their lost fans. I'm sure we all want to see a strong Glort right?

Tarka re-signs with Glory

March 14, 2008 PERTH'S quiet off-season has been given a boost with the re-signing of defender David Tarka on a new one-year deal.

The winner of the Glory's club champion award in 2006-2007, Tarka missed all of last year following a serious hamstring injury in his first game, the latest in a series of fitness setbacks.

But after reportedly turning down a big offer from A-League rivals Wellington, Tarka will stay in Perth to attempt to re-establish a career which had already brought one stint in Europe and Australia recognition.

"There are challenges ahead both personally and for all of us as a group and I look forward to tackling them head-on and making sure we break into the top four and play finals football," Tarka said.

"I have a fantastic support group around me in Perth who are entirely focused on helping me achieve my personal goals on the playing field and I'm extremely grateful for that."

Perth have 11 contracted players for the 2008-2009 season and coach Dave Mitchell said Tarka's signature was a big boost.

"David is a skilful and uncompromising defender and we're confident he has the capacity to reclaim his status as one of Australia's premier footballers," Mitchell said.

"He has worked extremely hard to regain his fitness and will be a great asset for the club going forward."

yep a lot of fans have been lost because the Glory are shit now - seems like a fickle lot over there... dump perth from the a-league I say and make it an all eastern states comp!

Yes, you have to give it to The Shed for turning up every week. Now that is loyalty.

Will be great if they can get their act together. Will be very interesting to see who they sign.

The problem is they keep losing their best players every year.

Off the top of my head, I can think of Celeski, Colossimo, Carceres, Ward, Bertos and Christie to name a few.

They still have potential though with players like Topor-Stanley, Djulbic, Downey, Foxe and Rukavytsya if they can add to that and build upon it.

Yeah absolutely agree marinersman.
And I think David Mitchell is going to continue having a significant impact.
Problem for Glory is to recapture or build new fans you can't just have an ok season even, you have to be right up there... No small task... Though I think Rukavystya will really be something special this year.

A couple of the English tabloids (Especially the Daily Star) are saying that Dwight is headed for Sydney next season.

Personally, I don't believe it. I think they have just heard that he wants to come back here and the papers have just said it will be Sydney because he was there in V1.

Some guys at futsal last night were saying there is a Newcastle Jets player playing for Budgewoi this season. Any one know anything about this? I guess it would be a fringe player so he can get some game time.

Thought I read somewhere it was fat boy Laybutt?

Eagleton lives round Bluehaven I think too?

Steve Eagleton certainly does live at Bluehaven and Budgewoi is James Holland's junior club. Holland does some extra training by himself at the ground occasionally. I have not seen Eagleton at the club but admittedly my team trains on different nights. I do know that our first grade coach has not changed from last season nor has reserve grades. I will let you all know if anything changes.

I doubt it would be Holland. He probably would have played too much A-league to be allowed to play club... he would think he is too good for it as well... and he is.

Yeah I read that he was retiring, but it would make sense that he is a player/coach at his age. Good luck to him.

Laybutt said late last year he wanted to return overseas, dont know who he is fooling, unless he thinks Havant & Waterlooville need a centre back, but im pretty sure they would say no.

All Systems Gao At Phoenix - 442

CHINESE footballer Leilei Gao is back on an A-League crusade after signing a one-year deal with Wellington Phoenix FC for next season.
The former New Zealand Knights attacking midfielder was instrumental in the Auckland-based clubs run toward the end of the 2006/07 season.

With Phoenix head coach Ricki Herbert installed as caretaker coach of the ill-fated club in December 2006, the Knights played five matches winning three, drawing one and losing one.

Gao played seven matches in the 2006/07 season after being loaned short-term to the Knights by Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan. He scored a goal in just his second match for the club, against Adelaide United.

When the Knights folded, the 27-year-old joined Finnish Premier Division club MyPa and was the first Chinese footballer to play in the Veikkausliiga.

Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata said Gao had been a target of Herbert for the clubs debut season in the Hyundai A-League.

Rickis a big fan of Leilei, having worked with him at the Knights, and he was keen to sign him up for season one. Unfortunately the circumstances werent right at the time," said Pignata.

So when the opportunity came up for us to sign him for our second season, we jumped at it.

Leilei will be a huge asset in the midfield. Hes going to give us the extra speed we need and hes also a dead-ball specialist. Hes the sort of creative, attacking link-man weve been looking for.

Gao said he was excited about coming to Wellington.

I really enjoyed my time in New Zealand, particularly playing for Ricki," he said. "Phoenix are going really well and Im looking forward to being part of a big season for the club.

Gao joins fellow midfielder Leo Bertos and defenders Andrew Durante and Jon McKain as new signings for Phoenix for next season.

Meanwhile, Phoenix are continuing their search for a specialist right back and a strike partner for prolific season one scorer Shane Smeltz.

Pignata said the club had identified a number of players in both positions that could fit the bill.

He added: Weve got some options, so its a case of sitting down and working through those.

This guy was a gun for the Knights, he will be huge for the Phoenix

jedinak to sheffield united [ 442 RUMOUR]

Mile Jedinak will go on loan to sheffield united for the rest of the season to bolster their midfield. Sheffield United and Central recently signed a partnership together and this move could be permenant if he does well

FourFourTwo Belief Factor: 4/10 - it's possible but United already have a large squad struggling to get regular starts and it's unlikely he'll get a lot of game time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With Lawrie saying that 2 of our boys being offered the chance to go there and train, I think this is more a 7/10 chance
