Bling FC attract Musialik
11 March 2008 | 21:00 - SBS EXCLUSIVE: David Lewis

Midfielder Stuart Musialik has become the latest A-League big name to embrace John Kosminas rebuilding revolution at Sydney FC after agreeing to join the club on a three-year deal.

Musialik, who turns 23 on March 29, reunites with erstwhile Newcastle Jets team-mate Mark Bridge on an FC team-sheet for next season also including high profile captures John Aloisi and Simon Colosimo.

Newcastle born and bred, Musialik is believed to have doubled his salary at Sydney, though his manager Tom Brooks insisted the move was more about a fresh challenge for a player whose contract had expired than simply boosting his bank balance.

Its a wrench for him to leave a club hes been very happy at but you can see with all the faces at Sydney they are a team going places and he wants to be a part of that, Brooks said.

Of course, hes great mates with Mark Bridge and is pleased that hell be reunited with him but it was still a hard decision for him to make.

He met John Kosmina last week and he sold Sydney really well - thats what really made up his mind for him after some great years at Newcastle.

Musialik, a defensive midfielder whose role model is Chelseas pest exterminator Claude Makelele, made 58 A-League appearances for the Jets in three seasons.

And his departure will have the warning signs flashing brightly on the Hunter with the salary ceilings placed on his players by Jets owner Con Constantine sparking an exodus from the A-League Champions.

Joe Marston Medal winner Andrew Durante has already high-tailed it Wellington Phoenix while Adam D'Apuzzo, Denni, Stephen Laybutt, Steve Eagleton, Paul Kohler and goalkeeper Ben Kennedy are all out of contract.

Considered one of the countrys top prospects, Musialik missed the Olyroos clash with Mexico in the United States earlier this month after failing to attend a training camp.

He is out to prove that that breach of protocol was just a blip on a career graph that continues to track on a relentless upward trajectory.

Why the f**k to Sydney need another defensive midfielder? I guess they could put Colosimo in defence but that's a waste IMO.

Strong squad for Sydney, they better pray they don't get too many injuries.

They will be without Bridge and Monkey boy for the first couple of months too.

They would have to be thinking of pushing colosimo back to defence it seems

which IMO is a waste but yeah I agree, it's the only way they can fit them all in unless they go :

---------Musalik----Colosimo
Bridge---------Corica--------Brosque
---------------Aloisi

With Bolton in goal teams will still score past them thou LOL

That doesnt look too bad for them DJ. The only problem they would have now is that they have to pay the 5 that are behind the 6 you mentioned probably on spare change

well perhaps?

----------------Bolton
Fyfe------Timpano---Popovic------McClenahan (who they are linked with)
---------Colosimo----Musalik
Bridge---------Corica----------Brosque
---------------Aloisi

They may get rid of 1 or 2 more to free some more room up? Looks a very stronge first 11 thou.

If they do get injuries or suspensions thou it could be interesting as rules have changed for short term replacements, you have to go to your youth team first.......so like we got Aloisi for Osman last year, we won't be able to do something like that in V4.

Thats if Timpano ever gets over his injury. Popovic and Corica are starting to look rusty and wont be up to a league standard next year. as a matter of fact their season is reliant on coricas form. if he loses it then i guess its lonnnnng ballllllll

After hunting for a suitable replacement to brazilian star felipe Ricki Herbert and the Wellington Phoenix are set to sign former Mariners marquee player Juninho on a two year deal to fill the the role of attacking midfielder. Phoenix staff are set to announce this major coup in the next week as well as the signing of formr Socceroo Joel Porter from Hartlepool

FourFourTwo Belief Factor: 6/10 - Yeah, well, anything's possible. But it ain't Bondi or Copacabana... Oh and Junior played for Sydney, not Mariners.

I agree that it does look like a very strong starting line up, they'll probably do well providing they gel well together and no one gets injured/suspended long term. However it'll piss me off if they keep refering to themselves as the "dream team" throughout the season  :headbutt:  especially if we sign yorke and even more so if we manage to get him under that cap and sign another marquee, however i think that is very unlikely  ::) :piralaugh:

Sydney will have the strongest youth team as well seeing as we are just going to take the AIS and move it to Sydney (or so it seems). Take all the good youth from NSWPL and NSWIS - tear up the league.

Plus there are still squad players that can come in behind that starting 11. McFlynn, Biddle, Enfield, Tsatallios, Vidaic, Middleby (if only he would leave). And then whoever else we decide to sign..

whoever has the strongest youth side will get picked at by all the other a league clubs as in a player will probably go with a side that can offer them a senior spot first anyway so youth side strength is inconsequental sorjesk.

SYD are asking for trouble if bridge is not striker

Agree with that.

It's easy to spot he worked his best in V2 while linking up with a playmaker (Carle).

This year they had no dominant playmaker or he would get played on the wide right in a 4321 system, and he was pants for most of the year.

He would've been good for Sydney in the season just gone, playing along Brosque and have Juninho feeding him through 100 times a game.

Be very interesting to see how he (plus Sydney in general) play next year and whether Corica and co. could form a very deadly attack.

Sydney still need their defence sorted and I think the money they'll spend on Musialik could cause a few problems.
