Spot on for Farrell. Looks like has a good pass on him but worried me in defence. Could have some Roux moments i feel.

there was a ball in the second half that went up really high and I know it was windy and hard to judge but he looked clueless, was not goalside as didn’t want to get back and seemed disinterested in the ball. He didn’t even get close. Maybe was really tired but that’s the problem. When you are tired you still have to bust your arse to get back. Walking leads to goals conceded.

he had some pretty good moments and looked very good and looked like he belonged but when the A League men come at him and he has to get back to shut down a break i am a bit worried.

looks a really good prospect if we can iron that defensive side out.
I think he just needs to pull his socks up Al...

We must have been watching different games, that did not come over on tv at all.
Yeah coverage does let you see a bunch of things you miss live and also vice versa… going on the box he had a shocker first half but was great in the second. Urena not in his usual form but I wouldn’t say a shocker - still linked well, put us on goal multiple times and got the assist but why he wasn’t shooting more I have no idea. His turn and shoot in the first half was quality and not far off.

Have to think conditions played the biggest part for both players. Ollie couldn’t get his eye in and Urena looked uncomfortable in the heavy rain and wind.

I wonder what position Niz was playing in the trial against Sydney.

I would suggest try and stick to that lineup and structure as much as possible.

Hopefully we don’t feel pressured to play Urena, Simon, Muller just because they are the senior or $$$, if Teskenis, Hatch are more potent.

You can say Monty is in charge as much as you like but we see so often how it becomes a matter of principle to keep playing players that cost the most money or show glimpses of great things but don’t apply the pressure, work or most importantly goals that are needed.
Muller and Urena are very different propositions to Matty right now,

Ok time to offer my thoughts and they and somewhat different to the TV viewers.

It was a toothless display but we got the win. Ams is completely clueless as a ref or was on a bung again.

Birraz.....had nothing to do.
Farrell.......not bad but does not look ready for HAL ATM. Linked up with Beni well in the 1st half. Was cooked in the 2nd half and was hooked at the right time as was looking to concede. Very raw but great potential.
Roux.....did pretty well. Not fully match fit.
Rowles......so good. MOM.
Miller.....pretty good and aggressive in defence. Distribution less than perfect.
Ballard......looks nice on the ball and has good feet but no go forward. Not really the answer to losing Stens.
Olli.....captain's performance. Only player with the gumption to shoot. Aggressive and harried the City kids. A few errors but only Rowles, Niz and Olli looked the required standard.
Niz.......some great moments but got bullied abit and given no protection from the clown pretending to be a ref.
Beni......looked like a baby giraffe at times but is a handful. Put in some great crosses that Matt and Marcos didn't attack. Will only get better and a great finish.
Matty......did some good things but never looked to scoring.
Marcos......had an off day.

We looked better when the subs came on.
I watched from home as I had other things on yesterday - but that looks pretty spot on.

Beni frustrated me a lot. Looks slow until he gets his long legs going but it was a great finish

Reading all these comments after only seeing from about 78th min, seems like the whole game wasn't great for us. I actually didn't realise we were in the white for the first few mins

I think one thing to note is when you're watching the normal tv camera view, it doesn't look like it's raining, and you can't see the wind (unless the ball is getting held up in the air). The guys at the game felt though it I bet!

Watching TV I think we were expecting better, as we couldn't necessarily see the effects of the weather. It might just be one of those games you try not to read too much into, be grateful for the win and getting a solid run out with no injuries.

TBH I would like to see Smith starting in front of Farrell. Farrell was painting by numbers in my eyes and looking slightly intimidated. But for a young raw boy he showed alot of potential but I can see him being taken to school as a starting FB. He is not in Hall's class at this stage. Hopefully this was just to blood him.

Most fun I had in ages. This must what it is like to support Stoke.

As a side note if that Hawkesbury Pacific will be on sale at the stadium replacing the 4 Pines, I am rioting. Dreadful stuff.

Instead of the Naughty Forty you can be the Naughty 14.

From what I understand Smith is not cutting the grade. Telling that he wasn’t used at all yesterday despite the number injured.

Farrell will do just fine. There will be hiccups but he is an exceptional prospect

Wow. I hope you are wrong about Smith Mick.

Otherwise we can switch Rowles to LB and have Hall and Roun as our Centre backs.

Farrell as a starting FB is peak Mariners of old.......the 8.2 loss style.

Think you’re being a bit harsh on Farrell Wombat, I thought he had a solid debut albeit against NPL and not ALM opposition but by all accounts he closed the right side of SFC’s attack out really well in the last pre-season game.

I too am surprised the Smith has seemingly been frozen out but I back Monty’s judgement as to who deserves to start and be in the game day squad.

I watched it live and then watched large parts of the replay... also watched WU V Jerks & MC V SM... & WSW V BM.... and parts of the NewO V Mac.....

We had a couple of key players out... and hopefully that along with a poor game by some had an affect... but hand on heart not the other thing we did not look good ....

Bit of a fanboy tbh. We need some honesty or we will be in trouble.
Aah Wombat, I thought I was a grumpy old man.

Give the kid a go. He mentioned a few problems but mainly talked about the positives. This is important when keeping the overall mood of the fans optimistic. Honesty is important if you are the manager. The manager cannot see the game through rose coloured glasses.
However, rose coloured glasses among the fans is better than goo feasting which definitely can cause trouble.

I liked his sunny outlook and positive spin. I can get all the negative spin I need on this forum.
