One hell of a finish from Ochieng, his contract is up at the end of this season and with Adelaide having Marrone and Elrich ahead of him it will be interesting to see where he lands.

Newcastle and Glory drew 2-2. Rostyn Griffiths receiving a straight red for dissent after copping a second yellow. Will miss the game against us. Earlier Nabbout scored and celebrated with a knot of Jets supporters with the fence collapsing and people falling on top of overs. Luckily no major injuries. Meanwhile Trump's response is below

You can't get a straight red after another red card. anything that happens after the first red, just gets reported. Referee knows that - I think he just lost his cool and showed the red again as a 'f*** off!'. Bit of an amateur mistake from the referee which just confused everybody.
He's facing extra suspension. I'd like to see more action taken against players either abusing the ref or refusing to leave the field after being sent, but it's always so inconsistent. Players abuse the ref all the time with no action taken.

Watching the youth the other week I was really happy and surprised with the attitude towards the refs. There was a couple of contentious calls taken on the chin. The odd player who did question Ref wasn't rude or aggressive. Was really good site.
The woman's World Cup was so much better than the men's in not rolling on the ground just getting up and playing and attitude to ref's.

Some of the men's game's in Europe are disgusting

They just seem to accept it as part of the game.

i don't know why the ref's don't clamp down on it

There's all these bullshit excuses....oh, it's an emotional game. It's there for the players, blah blah. It ties down to this whole thing about how weak refereeing is promoted because getting involved makes the referees the centre of attention or some such.
Even at grassroots it's gotten worse - I came back for a season a few years back and I was amazed at how much worse the abuse had gotten on the coast.
I watched a mate play in his ice hockey grand final a year or so ago. About the 3rd highest grade I think so quite competitive. He got sinbinned for something that was clearly the wrong decision. Afterwards I commented on how he just went to the bin, no argument, nobody said a word. He said 'that's because they all know they'd be joining me!'

Made me realise that every single excuse this game has for putting up with abuse is bullshit. But it needs to be approached consistently. A true zero tolerance approach is, IMO, achievable. And thing is, I think that would make it LESS about the referee, not MORE. Sure, you'd see a few games abandoned for too many red cards at first, but players would learn, would stop crowding the referee, then people care less about the decisions and more what players are doing. And IMO that would be better for everybody - referees, players, spectators at all levels of the game.

Maybe then we can stop coaches arguing with the 4th official for god knows what reason too :p

Having played AFL (and followed) all my life this was the biggest shock to me when first watching the A-League. How everyone constantly abuses the referees. Whether they get the decision wrong or right they are just doing their job, same as a coach or player, if every single tiny mistake a player or coach made was then used to justify horrific abuse I doubt anyone would want to be involved in the game. Players shouldn't be allowed to surround the referee and intimidate them into making a decision, neither should coaches be allowed to hurl constant abuse at the fourth official. As a matter of fact why does the fourth official exist at all except to be abused? It's disgusting how those at the top level of our game promote disgusting abuse at people who are just doing their job often for an amount that does not make it nearly worth it.

You're not wrong - although at grassroots the amount of abuse is disgusting. And because referees as a whole accept it, the refereeing fraternity is guilty of promoting this culture. But because it's the culture, it needs a widespread stamp down. If one referee goes out there one a one-man zero tolerance rampage the unfortunate reality is he'd probably get punched.
futsal (at least in Melbourne) is far, far worse than outdoor - I stopped that because I had been physically pushed numerous times and copped more extreme (I mean, ludicrously extreme, like you probably haven't witnessed) levels of abuse in 2 seasons there than 15 years of outdoor.
But I digress. Referees at no level should be putting up with it. It's disgusting, and it shouldn't be too much to expect a little bit of professionalism or self restraint. We even see youths getting hit by adults at times.

I firmly believe the game can certainly accept a zero tolerance culture, as long as its widespread and consistent. You're right that players shouldn't mob the referee for every decision he makes. The increasing levels of manhandling the officials are also a concern - you mention AFL, well remember the ump bump rule? Fair or not, everybody knew what to expect!

(Contact with the umpire, even if the umpire ran into you, meant you were sent off)

And all the abuse and whinging.....I've barely even touched on the arguments defending referees and how they shouldn't be putting up with it, even if you're completely anti referee and don't care about that angle (usually people who have never been brave enough to try the whistle themselves), even from a purely spectator perspective it's horrendous to watch. Slows the game down too.

FIFA should be leading the way and getting top leagues to do the same, because if people see Wayne Rooney do it week in, week out (see below) then everyone from every other top league down to the Terrigal United U8s is going to think it's OK.

It's already in the LoTG - if they dissent, caution them. If they dissent again, they're gone. If they say anything abusive or offensive, they're gone. It's really that simple.

Bit off subject but it's become like parenting, no discipline.

People in society are just getting ruder and it's just being accepted

I understand the frustration during sport and I've abused a few ref's in my time but I've always apologised afterwards and said I was frustrated (not a real excuse but the truth), but I also knew what I could get away with.

I've watched my nephew play AFL in juniors and they are really good at breeding that respect from both players and coaches,

It needs to be a culture breed fo m both the top and grassroots

In AFL it's an instant 50 meters if you so much as look at the referee the wrong way. Needs to be done, no one deserves the sort of abuse refs cop.
