There's all these bullshit excuses....oh, it's an emotional game. It's there for the players, blah blah. It ties down to this whole thing about how weak refereeing is promoted because getting involved makes the referees the centre of attention or some such.
Even at grassroots it's gotten worse - I came back for a season a few years back and I was amazed at how much worse the abuse had gotten on the coast.
I watched a mate play in his ice hockey grand final a year or so ago. About the 3rd highest grade I think so quite competitive. He got sinbinned for something that was clearly the wrong decision. Afterwards I commented on how he just went to the bin, no argument, nobody said a word. He said 'that's because they all know they'd be joining me!'

Made me realise that every single excuse this game has for putting up with abuse is bullshit. But it needs to be approached consistently. A true zero tolerance approach is, IMO, achievable. And thing is, I think that would make it LESS about the referee, not MORE. Sure, you'd see a few games abandoned for too many red cards at first, but players would learn, would stop crowding the referee, then people care less about the decisions and more what players are doing. And IMO that would be better for everybody - referees, players, spectators at all levels of the game.

Maybe then we can stop coaches arguing with the 4th official for god knows what reason too :p

Agree. I was a very mouthy player and always chirped at the refs....but always with a excuse me sir....but how can that be their thrown in when it came off them......always totally polite.
I still remember being booked for asking a question like that and the ref said I'm sick of listening to you....and gave me a card. Something I'm sure he couldn't actually actually do??....I shut up for the last 10 minutes.

I remember playing in a mid level game (Prem 3 or 4 kdsl) and my friend who is Italian almost getting into a fight with the ref. I dragged him away and bollocked him. I would have got sent off for that shit and he told me, half joking.....I'm a wog mate......we can get away with a lot more than you.
I must admit I've bitch slapped opponents and belted people in retaliation and still stayed on the park....with just a yellow card.......always pleading he has kicked me for 60 mins ref....I'm just protecting myself if you won't.
But I have never gobbed off at a ref like some of them do now.....because u new it was a straight red.
Simple to fix.......dive it's a yellow. Get in my face it's a yellow. disrespect me in an aggressive manner and it's a red.

...proving that they're actually not shit, I reckon.
They have 3 games in 8 days at home and are so far 2 for 2. Could be a nice little run by them.

Kevin criticised for not rotating on short turnaround as they were flat

They were definitely flat, whereas Nix are building and dominated for mine. Tratt had about four of those headers against us, finally put one in. He's a very solid RB defensively for mine.

Marc Marino surely playing for his professional future today. He's been scoring a heap in the NYL and was always highly rated when at Heart so I wish him well.

This game should not have gone ahead it is way too hot if players require two drinks breaks.
But anyway
Wellington have made numerous terrible mistakes but Adelaide do not have the fire power to punish them. Unless they can find a good striker I don't think we have to worry too much about the wooden spoon.

Roy in this Adelaide side would be a scary proposition.
Agree it's been the same all season, plenty of opportunities and good service they just have no one or any momentum to convert. I would love to see the stats on how many shots for AU have hit the woodwork this season.

Was glad to see them draw or lose though as we stay out of 10th, big game this week which may very well decide who gets the spoon.

Surely we can't play as poor as we did last time in Canberra.

Apparently some nix players suffered from heat stroke at HALF TIME,
I understand the move to summer but it really is to hot in summer to play properly.

The NYL final Azarni was suffering Cramp mid 2nd half, some might argue it's cause his unfit, but that was not the case it was because he was electric and involved in everything in the first half and had simply done more than any other player.

FFA obviously care more about their profits than the players. The game should have never gone ahead at that time. Get stuffed with the wet bulb test anything above 35 degrees should be automatically pushed back.

Agree and it's only shootout on after but being a Sunday the crowd can only be put off for so long. Hard one but an hour wouldn't have been unreasonable as would have been 5.30 in AU. Could have put Shootout on 1st as its not like it's suddenly 40c they would have known it was going to be hot

An bloody hell how many people watch Shootout? Just as many would watch on Monday night if it was really truly too late, surely Bozza's ego can wait a day? Every single player's welfare should matter more than Fox's stupid punditry.

I heard they were going to field 11 players. But watching tevez run end to end why Roar scored 70 odd goals would be my preference.

Tommy Oar having a blinder, putting himself on show.

Converting their chances unlike Shanghai.

Can they keep it up

Sydney's win tonight means that potentially they have qualified for the finals. We will know on Monday night. A win by us or draw with WSW and a Victory win or draw against the scum will seal their spot with 8 rounds to go.

Oar was brilliant last night, where has that been this season

SFC just had Nix covered easily not even close

I know it's late, but man it was beautiful watching timmy get sent off and MCY suffer a goal that people don't understand :p
I understand what they are saying but I feel he did interfere irrespective of the rules.

You are always taught to play the whistle so Defender had to make the lunge as he doesn't know where his defenders are behind him and even if he doesn't lunge the ref can still stuff up the offside, seen it all season
But if Berisha is in an onside position maybe the keeper calls for the ball and collects it cleanly without a lunge from defender.

The defender and keeper are both distracted by Berisha, so therefore has interfered in my mind. I'm with city I'd be pissed if happened to us.

Also thought the city goal in the FFA cup was interference as well so they evened up.

As for the carry on, I love watching it but it really has no place

And Tim if you want to be the star and get paid for it you need to watch your p's and q's more than everyone else.
I thought the apology was just a publicity stunt to keep the mums happy
