What's with Mossy's subs? First wasn't till the 70th, and the second with 5 minutes left to play! Didn't even make a third sub. It's been happening in league games, too. Late subs, with no time to make an impact.

Also, couldn't help but wonder what Sim would have done with the shot Rose sent well over...

Not sure what the go is with the sub's thing. A few having a go at him on Friday night when half the team was suspended.

His best team was on the park & it played it's best between 50-65 min mark. Not sure when the goal game but it was just after our best chance.

Just because we have 3 subs we don't have to use them. On friday I was thinking ok your baying for a sub but who. If someones says put on Dukey ok they have an idea but on Friday they were screaming Subs Subs Mossy Subs. only Caceras was any hope of playing more than 10 mins on Friday with 4 out & tuesday night only Duke & Caceras were a ligit chance of a run against an asian powerhouse.

Who would you taken off when? He took off Ibini who created 1 real chance & a half chance for Rose after he had nothing left which is fair not because the clock says 60 mins make a change cause that's what u should do. Monty & Hutch were going alright to so you could of taken one of them off earlier but I don't think Mossy really wanted us to chase the game at that point. He was happy to loose 2-0 & not have a really bad goal difference so early in the group stages.

Also if the plan is rotation Caceras & Duke would be in line for a much bigger role against SFC - Potentially starting.

Greenlig not having a go at you just the general annoyance I get from the sub just to sub calls that pissed me off on friday & you just gave me somewhere to direct my thoughts.

As for Sim - He might have buried it - But there was no way you were ever going to find out. State league to Asian cup with your 2nd game in a couple of days. Nope

A manager does 99% of their work before kickoff. If players can't/won't follow instructions, there's nothing that yelling on the sideline will do to fix it. Managers can't (Kenny Lowe aside) kick every ball and win every header for their team. They've got to set it up and let it run.

I'm actually a little surprised about the amount of invective poured upon Mossy. He's been handed the job in a hurry and then lost three key starters as we go into a tough patch of fixtures.

As for his subs, he's probably protecting players who aren't 100% fit.

Hard one this - You wan a manager who looks cool & collected. The players look over & say the manager looks relaxed he's not yelling at me so I'm not getting the hook keep trying vs someone that just screams because they can.

Sometimes when the coach is going bananas it shows that the team is playing the way he wants & panic can set in or the opposition smell blood.

However if shit is bad a good rocket is also required

Seem to remember Charlesworth asking for, and Gallop saying they would assist, help in finding sponsors. The shirts looked like those blank advertising spaces you see at bus stops - we should at least have provided a phone number!
As it was the kit looked like something Wellington Phoenix had rejected; bring back the pink.
Asia is suppose to be the frontier for Aussie for the future. WTF we can't even call Wombat's girls for a rub little own a multi national. Good this pissed me off.

We should of had Wombat's girls on the front. Cindy vs. Mindy @ BT 1st March 5.30pm (doesn't matter that they have patched things up).

Also if we are going to be that stupid why not go with the Barcelona method of putting a charity on the front. At least then they will think they have so much money they don't even need a sponsor.

Or better yet just a simple - 2-0 (WSW forever our bitches)

No worries, what you said makes sense. I am not at all in the Moss-out camp, way too premature for that given The Gutting. I guess it's frustrating not seeing a dramatic change at any stage, something to liven things up. There are probably reasons for that, though.

the best thing about last night was the ups and downs of the pundits and fans on twitter

wsw up 1 goal - this is how to play in asia, finally a team trying to win… 3 goals conceded

victory up 2 goals - this is how to play in asia, finally a team trying to win… 4 goals conceded

suddenly the mariners parking the bus doesn't seem like such a bad tactic after all!

Kudos to the mexicans and wandering driveby's for having a go, with this attitude and a bit of luck they may even cause a few upsets. Much better tactic in my opinion than dour negative playing for the draw crap, especially in a tournament that has little appeal as it is in this country and looking to raise its profile.

Play for the win, Let the squads experience and possibly learn a little at a level they need to aspire.

I must admit, I did have a chuckle at some of the deluded wsw fans and mariners haters that recieved a nice Asian reality check.

To be fair they will park the bus away from home as well if they know whats good for them.

But they were good to watch & very unlucky. They certainly made mariner mistakes

Tournament football means play to not lose away, play to win at home. I've absolutely no issues with playing negatively away, but parking the bus at home is crazy. Go down swinging if you must.

A Question : would it be fair to say that since Adelaide had that sterling tourny a few years ago....the refs have gone a bit terse on HAL entries?

Ok, this thing always strikes me in these discussions, so I'm just going to comment on it now...
Whenever people go on about "negative, bus-parking football" they always seem to miss one point... There's more than one team who decide what happens.
For us, it wasn't exclusively our style of play that lead to us spending the majority of the game in our own half... Some of it had to do with the quality difference too... It wasn't all back-passes, we were easily dispossessed several times, trying to get across the halfway point. Fits, for example, had a number of occasions where he was surrounded before anyone could get in to help. He and Rosie had a couple of gos at trying to get forward but getting stuck because there were too many opposition players too close to them. Even a decent player will, eventually, struggle with holding up the ball if he runs into opposition nomatter where he is.
We lost to a better team that's just the way it is and I have no idea whether we played particularly defensively or not, because we barely got the opportunity to show it. We certainly did start defensively, but then, we also started with a lot of pressure on us - you also have to play to the conditions, which means, if there are 5 opposition players standing in our defence, there's not shame in hoofing the ball up where there are fewer of them.
I'm not saying it was a generally positive experience, but still, as always, should-a-could-a-would-a, Rosie actually hits the target, and the world could be a different place.

WSW & MV now finding out what we've known for the last four seasons about playing in this comp. While we didn't win midweek, we were able to lift ourselves enough to win our next match, beating a team ahead of us on the table. The other guys both lost comfortably against bottom-of-the-table sides (I admit Heart aren't playing like a bottom side though). To top it all off, WSW didn't even have to travel. How bad are they going to be when they DO travel? Welcome to the real world people. :overheadl:

We always play defensively.....but even more so in Asia where they can tear you a new one....and have done many times against us over the years.

Just quietly TB we haven't shown much for them to be fearful of.

However we have a few players to scare the hell out of them in Bernie, Duke, Matty and Fitzy. Throw in the quality of Kim and we can cause an upset.

Yepyep, that's not what I was getting at... But to my mind, there's defensive play and then there's Norway-style, park the bus.... 11-0-0-0 that's not us either... Normally

We just a bit smarter now in the planning. Better to weaken both teams than go all out in one than the other.

Left are older guys at home.

Had the young pups let loose on SFC with the old heads to guide them.

Played at least 4 different players in starting 11
