Worked overseas a lot between 85 & 93 ... and when home [Australia] it was more catch up with family ... at the time was so busy and into career building that music which is one of the great joys in my life took very much a back step to raising a young family and collecting assets....

Wish I had been to the concert it would have been a great show..

RIP David "Honeyboy" Ewdards

Sad news heading today with word of the passing of David "Honeyboy" Ewdards. Mr. Edwards died from congestive heart failure at the age of 96.

Mr. Edwards moved to the South Side of Chicago in 1856 and was a direct link between Chicago and the Mississippi delta. He was also one of the remaining direct links to Robert Johnson [see my post on page 50 of this thread] and continued to gig until his body started to slowly be unable to handle the rigors of the road. The song "Sweet Home Chicago." penned and first sung by Robert Johnson would be maybe playing in heaven as a tribute to one of the originators of the blues.

From his home page David Honeyboy Edwards, the “Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen” has died. This morning Monday August 29, 2011, about 3 am while resting peacefully at home, Honeyboy moved on to blues heaven. He lived a long, full life, and he felt at peace. He loved to say, “The world don’t owe me nothing.” Just shy of his 96th birthday, Honeyboy played his last gigs at the Juke Joint Festival and Cathead Mini-Festival in Clarksdale, Mississippi April 16 and 17, 2011.

Prior to his health turning for the worse in late April, Honeyboy was scheduled to play numerous gigs in Chicago, across the USA and in Europe, including today at Millennium Park in Chicago for the noon time concert series. His manager Michael Frank had to cancel all those dates due to Honeyboy’s declining health. He maintained a strong spirit until the end, telling stories and showing off his dexterity in his hands.

Just to compare...

Sweet Home Chicago ... first Robert Johnson see my post page 50 and for David "Honeyboy" Ewdards above... then Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and others ... 1930's to 2008 ... [just as a matter of passing interest and this is no BS but it is said that Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil to be able to play guitar as he did}

Two Delta legends ... from the 20's & 30's & 40's ...

Sam 'Lightnin' Hopkins was a very influential Texas Blues musician whose songs have inspired everyone from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn to The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many points in between...

Son House .... House pioneered an innovative style featuring strong, repetitive rhythms, often played with the aid of slide guitar.
