Terrific post MS06.

This so much...

"Popovic turns over 70 per cent of players after a mutiny........and he is super coach. We change 4/5 and it is exodus."

Halfway point, seems like a good time to try and summarise the media shit storm we've endured.

This season has been such a hatchet job. The knives are out. But the players and that first half forced them to hide them behind their backs again.

Losing Reddy was bad for us, but it should have been more surprising he'd lasted so long, not that he was going. Bosnar also - loose cannon coming to the end of his career.

And when they railed against the club and coaches vision, pre FAb's hammy, we were actually showing some good signs, and should have had a couple more wins if not for awful officiating.

But all we heard was that things are not well at CCM and unhappy camp. Not out of order players put their own opinions above coach before the season has even gotten underway.

What do you think they would they have said if it was Popovic, Arnie, Aloisis or Muscat that Reddy and Bosnar were speaking out against?

Then it's phone gate. And what did they say...

Not - GA may have been cheating or there is a player betraying the CCM club and fans or putting the game into disrepute - but how shocking and STASI like it was that the coaches wanted to stop the leak and find out who was doing it.

Then there's no arguing we're not performing, our best player is out, we have zero depth, an incredibly young squad, and we really did fall apart - so we needed to rally, but we didn't, and so effort started coming into question - and for good reason. And also our budget, MC's purse strings and obvious need to strengthen.

Next, 4 clubs are behind on super, but articles all centre on the Mariners with rumours that 5 players want out over their super payments. Rumours that agents and the PFA are creating these rumours to get players out of contracts because their team is struggling and onto better coin are ignored. But CCM pays the super. And the media is forced to move on.

But there's no time to breathe! Because more rumours of an unhappy camp and training ground bust ups are flying - meanwhile the captain, coaches and several players speak to the fact that the mood in the camp is still very good.

So moving on... and we now become the poster boy for why their should be relegation. You do need to invest to make sure you have a strong enough squad, even if you've been put on the edge of bankruptcy - I think this is Bozzas drift - but really, using the least resourced, smallest club, who has never won the spoon to make the point of why their should be relegation after our first time at the bottom of the table for more than a week in 11 seasons? When other clubs have had salary cap breaches and all sorts of ownership chaos, mutineers, coach sackings and player issues??

Then we get asshole manager of the year award winner - continuing to play his PUB FC media wars, and it appears that the toll of bad press and negative opinions from all and sundry seems to have done it's work and swayed two players; that the club has always set great store in and supported, and they repay "the keys to the kingdom" by asking for an early release.

It seems a clear betrayal, and salt in the wound ironic, considering the two players in question should have been leading lights this season, but have instead been performing badly and a key reason why we're struggling.

So the club drops them. Understandable? Apparently not. More cries of "What on earth is going on there" So two far less experienced or rated players come in and lo and behold, we don't see the predicted disaster, we see a spirited full 90 again at last and finally a win.

Thoughts on the clear change from the media? Not really - just some more talk of player unrest - with Caceres leaving taking all the headlines - the fact leaving him out seems to have helped the Mariners win appears lost on everyone - and just more wasted talent and clueless Mariners still on repeat. Cue "What on earth is going on there".

Oh, and I almost forgot, then we get our trial by media... with the (admittedly) disgusting head butt - apparently happening in a total vacuum, no mitigating circumstances are taken into account and Roy receives one of the most severe punishments in HAL history.

Then... with our mass exodus of two - now being left out of our next game against the champions, and no proven striker, what happens? CCM plays it's best half of attacking football in two years without even a #10 on the field and takes it to the best squad in the HAL.

Vindication of the coaches actions? Nope. But, it's shut them up temporarily at least. If we lose next game, they'll come after us again with a vengeance. So really hoping we can sign some support asap and go on a big roll and stick it to them all.

They don't like our owner. Or vision. Our players. Our coach. Our crowd numbers. Our shirt (Ok no one likes our shirt) but point is we're hated, and we've never been so unrated.
Which for us is pretty crazy statement.

So I say there's never been a better time to piss in their lattes, and take an enormous crap in a humble pie that we can hopefully make them all eat.

Yes FP and all this vitriol from the generation of players who failed to get Australia into a World Cup from the early seventies until the next generation stepped up with Guss in 06.
The same generation of players who went on strike on pay related demands
while on tour.
CCM will always be the can to kick until we have someone like Hutch in the Media.
Oh we do! A convicted drug felon.

Whilst I don't disagree with you, there seems to plenty of Walmsley Out sentiment throughout social media.

I agree although it seems to have died down a bit both since the podcast and since beating the Nux though :)
On Facebook it's increasingly the same the people and at least one of them is just hoping to bring in their own favorite in stead.

I've been trying to stay positive, but serious questions need to be asked re the team selections last night.

Fletcher may be terrific for all I know, but to start him after nearly two years out was crazy. Does nothing for his confidence when he is behind the pace of the game due to lack of match fitness, and wil be dented even further when he his undoubtably dropped for the next game due to lack of performance. Also can't improve Binghams confidence either when he has played well only to be dropped.

After the surprise midfield that worked so well against Wellington & Victory it looked like we had found the solution, but that completely disappeared last night. McGing has been good as a DM, and Neill great in an AM position, but one is left out and the other moved to left back.

Bray was excellent in his last game, and is dropped for a previously shaky Izzo.

Now I hate to say it, but these bizarre team decisions are very Moss like, and mean that it's very hard for the team to build any cohesiveness.

Time for some questions to be asked about Walmsley. Looks like he is still trying to try things to see what works, which is scary so far into a season. Caceres & Fitzy were given 10 games or so to see what they could do, but players these days barely last one match in the same position.

Strangely the main position that probably does need to change is right back. Roux was terrible last night, and has been very up and down for the last few games.

I understand, I think those points are valid, but I think this is a team without pre season and running last. So you have to make changes and tinker/gamble. May be disastrous, but you have to try. Or not... If you recall that was actually very un Moss like - he was sticking it out saying he thought we played well while... well while as Kev put it in another thread – his barrel was going over the Niagra Falls.

I also agree like most on Bray. BUT Izzo was the keeper who has trained all through pre season, was our starting keeper till his call up and regardless of what we all seem to think is highly rated. I think if you drop your keeper when he gets back from international duty it will cause even more furore and tbf they really haven't had a chance to look at Izzo and Bray side by side to make any comparisons. Izzo may well also be one of the next cabs of the rank for being sold for a profit... so they may be willing to invest in him further.

Another consideration is that Keeper is a very high pressure position. Odds are most of us are outfield players and may be underestimating this. Izzo with a couple more years on the back of his shot stopping could well become a beast. When de gea moved to united, he was an amazing shot stopper, but he flapped at crosses and couldn't command his box for any amount of money. But he rode through it (certainly proved me wrong) and is a vastly different keeper in just a relatively small amount of time.

Now I'll give you he also always had WAY better feet than Izzo and distribution also, but I'm sure you get my point. Despite what we think now. Izzo (especially given the position and his age) may well become a truly great keeper. Or not...

Fair enough Forum. Can see why Izzo retained his spot, particularly given Bray's injury. Great that he has some pressure on his spot, and this may be why he has lifted over the last few weeks.

My recollection is that Moss did what Walmsley is currently doing, which is continuous tinkering. Yes he did say that all was going well, but players who had performed were dropped, and underperforming players were kept. At least there appear to be no favourites that play regardless this year.

I understand that he has new players and needs to try them, but they also need to earn the spot. The Fletcher selection to start was mind boggling, and Bingham coming back this weekend showed that.

I know players and squads need to be flexible, but there still needs to be a core group playing together regularly to build cohesion and understanding.
