Cooper hammered by the Jets:

Newcastle Jets have a new owner and with it comes a fresh start on the playing roster.

Head coach Scott Miller is continuing the process of culling players not long after releasing the likes of Leonardo, Enver Alivodic, Milos Trifunovic, Cameron Watson and Ryan Kitto.

The latest on the chopping block is Mitch Cooper. The attacking midfielder has been told he has no future at the club and not to bother turning up for training.

Understandably the player's management are filthy... there's mileage in this one yet.
Have always liked this lad and is an attacking midfielder decent back-up/competition for Baccus/Dugandzic/Nikas?

After only managing 5 games in 3 seasons for the Scum, he'd be a MASSIVE risk, in that of both injury and his unkown (if any) development till now.

Big Q's on both.

If ...... & it's a big IF, you'd only offer minimum wage, otherwise it'd be back to the QNPL for him I'd say.

Haha, I just find I like quite a few players and I put forward those who I think are exciting. Hence the Joyfulness :p
Most of the time it's just to promote some discussion, and anyone with A-League or equivalent experience has a chance of being better than a majority of the squad from last year.

It's all good discussion. For mine though, anyone else we bring in must be able to step right in at this level and perform. Castelan is still available. :)

As long as we're full up on visa players, Castelen is off-limits.
yep...but a pity...
the games I saw him in last season I thought he was impressive.....and didn't he share digs with Faty and Tavares previously...might have been a good hook-up again.

It saddens me, but I'm going to have to unfriend Lawrie on the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I just can't stand viewing all of the optimistic posts about the scum.

No marquee as Jets scour for firepower:
mckinna_0.jpg

Newcastle CEO Lawrie McKinna says the Jets aren’t on the hunt for a marquee but are looking for a Chinese player and a foreign striker to boost their squad.

McKinna said Newcastle has a three-year plan to qualify for the Asian Champions League.

So far the Jets have signed Wayne Brown, Devante Clut, Ivan Vujica and Daniel Alessi, with Andrew Hoole and Jack Duncan returning to the club.

Enver Alivodic, Josh Barresi, Ryan Kitto, Leonardo, Brandon Lundy, Mark Birrighitti and Cameron Watson have all left the Jets.

McKinna told FourFourTwo Newcastle is not looking for a marquee signing for the 2016/2017 campaign, despite the introduction of the additional guest marquee spot.

“It’s not on the table,” he said.

“I’m not saying it wont be eventually but at the moment the club lost over $2 million this year. We have to be realistic. Martin Lee’s not here with money that’s a bottomless pit.

“We have to cut the losses, have a stable football team and club and then build on it. His target is in three years time to be challenging for Asia, and why not.

“If we can have another improvement this year we’ll be knocking on the door of the six. The year after we build the squad again and look to get in the six, the year after be challenging.

“That’s the goal of the club, all business set targets. That’s going to be our target.”

The Jets currently have 20 players on their books and two foreign visa spots left.

One of those is likely to be filled by a player from China.

“At the moment we’re looking for one Chinese and one European/South American striker,” McKinna said.

“That’s what we’re looking for at the moment. That could be two Chinese if they’re good enough and we can afford them, the big thing for us is Chinese players are on big money now.

“So we have to get the right players to come in that’s going to be good enough to play every game and potential sell back into China.”

Alessi to miss Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season:

Newcastle Jets have advised that promising young defender Daniel Alessi will miss the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season after suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in training recently.

Alessi joined the Jets in June 2016 on a two-season Hyundai A-League contract.

Newcastle Jets will support Alessi in his rehabilitation process over the coming months and look forward to him re-joining the club’s full training ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2017/18 campaign.

Nabbout gets A-League second chance at Newcastle Jets:

Newcastle Jets will give Andrew Nabbout another shot in the A-League, with the 23-year-old forward having signed a two-year deal.

Nabbout, who last played in Malaysia with Negeri Sembilan, completed a successful trial with the Jets last week to secure a contract.

The former Melbourne Victory striker burst onto the A-League scene in the 2012-2013 season, scoring a late double after coming off the bench in a 3-2 triumph over Sydney FC in just his third professional match.

Nabbout only managed three more goals in his next 37 A-League matches for Victory, although he generally started on the bench.

Having scored nine goals in 14 competitive games with Negeri Sembilan, Nabbout hopes to secure regular game-time at Newcastle.

"The Jets are the perfect team for me to join," Nabbout said.

"I want to do everything I can this year to play

"Scott [Miller] as the head coach wants to promote young players, so this is the perfect opportunity for me to play and help the team.
"I have a point to prove [in the A-League] and I want to repay the faith that Scott has put in me."

Jets coach Scott Miller has added six players to his squad since the end of last season, with Nabbout set to challenge the likes of Morten Nordstrand, Labinot Haliti, Andrew Hoole and Devante Clut for attacking positions in the 2016-2017 campaign.

Wow.

We thought some of our signings were dubious

Quietly confident that they will be absolute shite this season. Scummers themselves very down about their squad.

Scoring 9 goals in his last 14 games in the Malaysian Super-League, to then get released by the club would've been quite a shock for him AND then to be replaced by 'the slippery fish' ...... former Brisb.Roar player Henrique.

Strange move from Negeri's Coach, Aussie Gary Phillips, who'll wanna hope that the little brazilian scores as much - if not more than what Nabbout was for the club, as they're currently second in the MPL, two points behind top of the table Melaka United.

Good pick-up for the Scum I'd say - with Nabbout's stats of recent form, plus the positive of coming in 'match fit' already for the pre-season, he'll have the jump on everbody else in that dept.

Interesting point of note:
Nabbout trialled with CCM at the beginning of pre-season last year (along with Blake Powell who he should've signed then).

Walmsley passed on both  & signed
......... Dan Heffernan instead .

In defence of TW , Heff scored two hatricks and his first touch was better than almost everyone in the squad.
I'm sure when he signed him he thought his lack of pace was due to lack of match fitness.

Regarding Nabbout I agree he is a reasonable pick up for the scum.

Oh for sure, but I'm doubly certain that everyone is now in agreeance of the hard and fast rule of:

"If you score in the pre-season
....... IT DON'T MEAN SHIT! " :p

Shit didn't know that. Awful decision twice over. Rate Nabbout - was kept out by an excellent MV line up - just some question marks about his work rate and fitness.
