After all, the bigger the crowd, the more noise, the greater the errr, ummm, atmosphere  probably ..

How do you explain Wellington then? Their average attendance was around 3,000 lower than Brisbane, they played most of their games in an oval stadium yet they got a higher atmosphere rating...

Atmosphere Ratings: pretty subjective, don't you think? After all, the bigger the crowd, the more noise, the greater the errr, ummm, atmosphere  probably ..
Seems the more successful clubs had better atmospheres, makes sense. We didn't have alot to get excited about last season, nor did the Jets or Brisbane.
Also, the later the game, the drunker the crowd, the better the atmosphere...:) We didn't have many of those.

Jets snap up former Brisbane Roar youngster

Newcastle Jets have signed promising left-sided central defender Lachlan Jackson on a one-year deal.

Townsville-born Jackson made three first team appearances for Roar last season and scored his maiden A-League goal against Newcastle in the final regular season round.

There were no hard feelings at the Newcastle outfit, however, with the 20-year-old snaring his first professional contract with the Hunter outfit.

Jets coach Scott Miller sees huge a big future for Jackson who will add depth and balance to his central defensive options.

“In Lachlan we see a player with substantial potential and someone who ought to benefit from being in a fulltime environment learning from experienced professionals in his position, particularly Nigel Boogaard and Daniel Mullen,” Miller said.

“He’s exceptionally driven and demonstrates sound tactical awareness and composure in possession, which are desirable traits for our club and team.

“While Lachlan starts with us on a one-season contract, we view him as a player who can develop into a regular A-League starter with the club in the coming years.

“As a club we’re excited to help Lachlan achieve his goals.”

Jackson joins Radovan Pavicevic and Joshua Barresi as the club’s three contracted youth players.

The towering defender, a member of Roar’s 2015 AFC Champions League squad, completed his medical with the club on Friday and will link up with his teammates on Monday.

Jackson said he was delighted to be penning his first professional contract with Newcastle.

“I think moving down here is a good choice for me,” Jackson said.

“Working with Scott and ‘JP’ (Jean-Paul de Marigny) I think I can progress my career.

“Towards the end of last season I got to make a few senior appearances for Brisbane, and in the game against Newcastle I think they saw something that they liked, which is encouraging.

“I am looking forward to being part of the rebuild here in Newcastle, and helping to establish the Jets as a strong competitor."

The game that I saw him in (against the Jets) I thought he looked very promising. He Never took a backwards step was always looking forward and seemed to have a good passing range. I reckon he could become a really good player and from the little bit I've seen of him I think he's the second best young centre back prospect in the A-League. The first being Conor Chapman.

Well he is the largest 'employer' of people in the Newcastle region.

Pumped in more money than Tinkler and Constantine combined.

Surprising move he had a good CV.

Was the former CEO OF Victorian Football Federation, turned their finances around & successfully implemented their new National Premier League competition plus helped establish Melb. Victory's W-League team.

Had a decade of experience with Fairfax Media in Snr Management & interestingly is Matilda's 'Katrina Gorry's' uncle.

Tinkler appointed him in Feb this year, albeit he was handed a sinking ship. Would of thought his VFF background would of sufficed the FFA, a Federation has more money and employees to manage than the Scum. Very late in the pre-season to be appointing a new 'care-taker' CEO.

Was at the CCM v Nix FFA game the other nite & was talking to a mate of Deej's who works for Newc Uni Sports Science and he told me that when he was up at the Scummer's doing fitness tests for pre-season David Carney is so fat that he lathered his body with a coat of 'vaso' to avoid being tested by the University staff. They couldn't perform the 'pinch-test' anywhere on him to determine his skin-fold fat levels, so he got out of it.:popcorn::popcorn:

Note to Walmsley: 1st game against The Scum, run at & get in behind Carney for the full 90min.

Jets given a lift as Brazilian attacker Leonardo signs:

Newcastle Jets has signed Brazilian attacking midfielder Leonardo Vitor Santiago as the lead-up to the new A-League season continues.

The 32-year-old joins the club off contract after terminating his employment with German side 1860 Munchen last year. Previously he has played at Feyenoord, where he was part of the 2001/2002 UEFA Cup winning squad, as well as Ajax and NAC Breda, having started his professional career at the tender age of 17.

“I have spent many years now playing in Europe, so it is exciting for me to travel to the other side of the globe to play professional football,” Leonardo, who has been out of contract since the end of November last year, told the club’s official website.

“The A-League is a competition that I have heard good things about, and from what I have seen on the internet Newcastle looks like a great place to live.

“The start of the A-League season is not too far away, so I look forward to getting to Australia as soon as possible to meet everyone at the Club, our fans, and to get to work,” he said.

Newcastle Jets head coach Scott Miller, who is targeting a play-off spot for the new season after a torrid season for the fans in 2014/2015, believes his newest recruit will play a big part in that ambition.

“We are excited to have a player of Leonardo’s experience and class joining our Club,” Miller said.

“Leonardo is a player that we believe will add craft and spark to our team, inspire and entertain our Members, and provide leadership through his actions.

“We are also anticipating that as well as contributing strongly on the pitch and in the Newcastle and Northern New South Wales community, Leonardo will be able to impart his years of experience acquired through competing at some of the top levels of the game to our many young and ambitious attacking players – players like Mitch Cooper, Josh Barresi, and Radovan Pavicevic,” he said.

Leonardo's most prolific season was with NAC Breda in 2005/2006, when he scored eight goals in 14 appearances in the Eredivisie. If Miller wants play-offs experience, he's got it, although Leonardo's was at the bottom of the table in that season, as NAC Breda was forced to survive relegation via play-offs against Top OSS and FC Volendam, winning both matches to stay up.

Fcuk'me

The Scummers get a classy looking ex Ajax/Feynoord AM who, from the vid, has a penchant for nicking the ball (with some pace) from teams trying to play-out from the back and then banging them in with a sweet left peg.

The closest the Mariners will get to having a Brazilian is if Charlesworth shaves his pubes.
