ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

The Mariners in Asia

I agree with Jizza.
No need for stats. We can see that the Mariners don't play the style that Cockerill seems to see.
Cockerill need an angle for a football story. Small town bruisers who climb to the pinnacle of Asia. Mike would have us sign Yesterday's hero, Aloi$i, to add to the romance.

Aye, when I have finished a hard day down the Terrigal pits I like to meet the guys from the Avoca steelworks to race our whippets and discuss or lung diseases in the local working mens club.

I wasnt aware we had a seige mentality either? I thought we were developing the "centre of football excellence in Australia" ?

Like the RW article there is a grain of truth in what Cockup says ...... but then not to say MV do the same is the part that gives me the the shits.... When we played MV we have a slow back four and they pumped long balls all night trying to catch us out ......... in fact our goals that night were from passing movements and MV goals where the more soft pump it up and hope for the best type.

Love the saying.

"No one likes us, we dont care"

damn...i didnt see that til after my test (well i banned myself from the marinators website since last night- which was hell!)

+1 for midfielder + Jaza (thats a first for all of us :p :p :p)
its the style of football in Australia- the 'least' offending would be maybe Adelaide???
I dunno coz they arent any teams that dont do it
Newcastle do it quite a lot but yet never get caught
I think we area slowly evolving anyway- we r starting to realise short passing > long balls
I mean heck there is a time even in world class football for long balls- but it was getting a bit dire at times watching us repetitively boot the ball up the field!

I'm totally unapologetic as to how I want my football played- short and on the ground, keep possession, use the central midfield and wings to feed the strikers. That's the ONLY style of football I will ever accept.

I want to see some f**king stats alright!

:)

Average number of goals scored per game = 2.1
Average number of goals conceeded per game = 1.5
Average number of goals per Mariners game = 3.6

IMO that's pretty good entertainment

"If God had intended for us to play football in the clouds he wouldn't have put grass on the ground" - Brian Clough

Watching videos of his teams play you do learn a lot.

As supporters, we will accept winning football. Better if that is also exciting football but win over everything

As has been said (even by Jaza), of course we play no more long ball than anybody else.

Implying that we and Lawrie are all football philistines, makes Cockerill a bigger c**t in my book. And this...

the blue-collar, thongs and singlet-wearing people of the Central Coast. This is Marinerland

Must remember I need to wear a singlet to work tomorrow...

I think this is a good article IMO, he easily could come out and say its rubbish that we play long ball, that we shouldnt be winning games and that we will fail in asia.
But he comes out and gives us a good wrap about our style of game and how its sucessful and gets results.

We do play long ball though not as much as he makes it out to be but we really do, but most of the a-league does play long ball if you actually sit down and watch the play, we play to our strengths and it works

What is traditionally meant by the term "long ball" is over the top, hopeful hoofs. Different to how we play.

More like how the Tards play ... with their strikers standing off-side to pull our defence out of shape.
