For all those suggesting other songs you could always grab 5 or 10 mates and try and get it going in the bay, generally plenty of time during the game sometime. Of course if you haven't been joining in with CHFILWY  you can't really expect the guys singing it to help try and get your suggestion up now can you.

Yes you can. Otherwise those slagging off at other suggestions and demanding everyone sings their songs are just hypocrites.

Seriously, I would like everyone to sing every song, but that's theory. Reality is that some will, some won't. Doesn't make those who don't any less of a Marinator as long as they at least sing\chant something during the course of the game (beyond yelling "Mrdja's a c**t!" every 10 seconds)

How about singing for the sake of singing? how about dropping something for once and singing the song to increase the volume for the team we support out on the field?
I personally haven't thought well of a few of the chants in the bay, but hasn't stopped me from joining in or trying to push it?
this is what holds us back, a culture where people instantly judge a song and dont pursue it for what it could possibly be.
"Nup not singing that because of X reason"

Look at Sydney, Look at Newcastle, both supporter groups who completely outdo us home and away, because they have instilled this culture where they want to push as many chants as far as possible in the hopes of a) getting their team over the line and being the 12th player, and b) being the best support group and representing their homeland and team.

So will you be in the bay again on Saturday? not seen you there for a while mate

Five Most Important Leadership Traits
by Mark Shead on January 3, 2007

Some people sit and pontificate about whether leaders are made or born. The true leader ignores such arguments and instead concentrates on how to become better at leading people. In this article, we are going to discuss five leadership traits that people look for in a leader. If you are able to increase your skill in these five traits, you will make it easier for people to want to follow you. The less time you have to spend on getting people to follow you, the more time you have to spend refining exactly where you want to go and how to get there.

The five leadership traits are:

Honest
Forward-Looking
Competent
Inspiring
Intelligent

These five characteristics come from Kouzes and Posners research into leadership that was done for the book The Leadership Challenge.

Your skill at exhibiting these five traits is strongly correlated with peoples desire to follow your lead. Exhibiting these traits will inspire confidence in your leadership. Not exhibiting these traits or exhibiting the opposite of these traits will decrease your leadership influence with those around you.

It is important to exhibit these traits. Simply possessing each trait is not enough; you have to display it in a way that people notice. People want to see you demonstrating these traitsnot just assuming that you have them. It isnt enough to just be neutral. For example, just because you are not dishonest will not cause people to recognize that you are honest. Just avoiding displays of incompetence wont inspire the same confidence as truly displaying competence.

The focus of each of these five traits needs to be on what people see you donot just the things they dont see you do. Being honest isnt a matter of not lyingit is taking the extra effort to display honesty.

More info at the link.

Not sure that a forum is really the place to display leadership qualities.

was it even sung tonight?

yes, twat

It was sung, but in the scheme of things didn't make much of an impression. I thought the Marinators were excellent last night, and particularly loud up the back. But then we had plenty to sing about.

The chants certainly were much more co-ordinated than the songs, which is to be expected.

For those wielding the megaphones - When the Bay is in full voice the megas are very difficult to hear. Someone belting out the start of a chant without them appears to be far louder than hearing a tiny tinny sound via the mega. Something gets lost in translation.

I did not hear the front mega once in the whole game - was it turned on?

There is also an art to starting a chant. It's all in the timing. There was a guy next to me who had it down perfectly. He waited for a pause before starting a new chant. Not like some who tried to start a song right in the middle of one going at full steam, or trying to get everyone to be quiet to start his.

Congratulations everyone - both front and back of bay for a great effort.  :eek:verhead:

For those rows in the middle who didn't get up off their arses for the 'Stand up for the Mariners' chant - disappointed.  :redcard:

I agree. The three rows of non-standing emos that divided the bay made it unco-ordinated.

Many of the front group came up to the top and it worked better. That sort of happened towards the end of the second half.

But it would be nice to see the whole bay full and singing (Dream).

I was at the back most of the game starting a lot, everyone at the back joined in and certainly had some volume!  I went down the front for a short period and all this talk of filling from the front just doesn't work for us, get the core in 1 area (the back) who want to chant and join in with each other.

Anthem was too quick, need to slow it down.
