I remember when we tried to get evryone to sing yellow by coldplay, that failed miserably

did we really try it though?

i've never heard it... still maintain, it could work

It would work better than Im Forever Blowing Bubbles.

If it were to work, it would need to be pushed by everyone in the bay, even the club could get involved (playing the song after the game when the players shake hands and do the walk around clap to the fans thing).

I think it is such a good chance at having our own original song/idea!

I'm with Perm...  :-\  :p

I really think it could work.  Don't make me post the lyrics!!  Fits perfectly!

For the blingers

up your ass
up your ass
we'll stick the blue flag up your ass
from Gosford to Moore Park
we'll stick the blue flag up your ass.
-------------------------------------
------------------------------
Whatever the season,
We follow our team,
We're Central Coast Mariners,
We rule supreme,
We'll never be mastered,
By no, by no Sydney Bastards,
And we'll stick the blue flag,
Up your arse!

Up your arse,
Oh up your arse,
We'll stick the blue flag up your arse,
From Gosford to Moore Park,
We'll stick the blue flag up your arse
-----------------------------------
General

Oh Gosford (Oh Gosford)
Is Wonderful (Is Wonderful)
Oh Gosford is wonderful,
It's full of tits, fanny and Mariners,
Oh Gosford is wonderful!

Prehaps for the return of Aloi$i, that all time Beatles Classic, Hey Judas ;)
All these are great. but the song at the start has to be a song, not a chant. A harmonious, powerful some that is going to intimidate the cr*p out of them, with a loud voice and scarves up.

:goodpost:

Imho "yellow" just isn't powerful enough to really pull at the heart strings.
I actually like the song, but in all honesty "Yellow" really just invokes - at least in me - more of a soft melancholic resignation... whereas I kinda feel we need something that brings out a bit more inner passion, the kind that leaves the heart/spirit enflamed and lingering with stone hard resolve...

The club song is a fantastic idea, and surely has to happen, but once it does it could be here for the rest of our lives... So I think it has to be something that really summons up the blood.

It's why the shoulder to shoulder, never walk alone stuff is so damn good... It fires the heart and the blood and sends chills... In short, I think our song whatever it is should have to pass the goose bumps test... Does anyone really feel "Yellow" would give them goose bumps?

For mine, I still think that given we already have a magnificent piper & not to mention the Goot Mr Mc Kinna... ;D That something with some powerful celtic pipes perhaps wouldn't go astray...

Interested in others thoughts?

Yeah, thats a pretty damn good suggestion I think...
very beautiful song Mull of Kintyre... and haunting beauty would work imo... Especially in the most beautiful stadium in the HAL...

Pretty iconic, which is important for branding and a catchy tune that stays echoing in the brain and soul...

The beautiful lyrics, shortened of course, could be easily adapted into something pretty damn special I think.. "Mariners never tire" or some such...
I also love the idea of how it is based around loving our land/coast, especially when we have to put up with the sea bogan shite...

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre
Far have I traveled and much have I seen
Dark distant mountains with valleys of green.
Past painted deserts the sunsets on fire
As he carries me home to the mull of kintyre.

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Sweep through the heather like deer in the glen
Carry me back to the days I knew then.
Nights when we sang like a heavenly choir
Of the life and the time of the mull of kintyre.

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Smiles in the sunshine
And tears in the rain
Still take me back to where my memories remain
Flickering embers growing higher and higher
As they carry me back to the mull of kintyre

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre

Let's put it to the others - bagpipes could be involved too. We could work on it to adapt

Where do you sit in bay 16?. I am row s / seat 17

Young kids, and older crew too, so by necessity I'm lower eastern gold...
So I don't generally post as a rule on chants... but an opening song is a different kettle of fish... But having starters to sing in the other bays is essential for growth ;D Don't worry, part of a big group, and we're loud :pirate:

As to asking the others though...

Others? ;)

God yeah - I was looking around at the bays on Sunday with people just sitting there. At least with a song at the start - they can all be involved.  :pirashoot:

Yeah absolutely, it would also help educate and develop a proper football supporter culture.

Rework the lyrics of 'Flower of Scotland' perhaps??  Fits in with our coaching staff and the whole bagpipe capers..... first line could easily be "O Ceeentraaal Cooooooast", and then so on.  Drop in references to beating Newcastle and Sydney and such??

O Flower of Scotland,
When will we see,
Your like again,
That fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen,
And stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.

What about - "We are sailing" by Rod Stewart, or Mull of Kintye?
Scarves up !!!!

I am sailing is a pretty easy 1 and not a bad suggestion

I am sailing, I am sailing,
Home again cross the sea.
I am sailing, stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free.

I am flying, I am flying,
Like a bird cross the sky.
I am flying, passing high clouds,
To be with you, to be free.

Can you hear me, can you hear me
Thro the dark night, far away,
I am dying, forever trying,
To be with you, who can say.

Can you hear me, can you hear me,
Thro the dark night far away.
I am dying, forever trying,
To be with you, who can say.

We are sailing, we are sailing,
Home again cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,
To be near you, to be free.

Good idea but what happens when Lawrie goes?  Great idea whilst we have he and Fergie though

Indeed, was thinking more of chants during the game rather than a warm up song.
In terms of a warm up songs, We are sailing seems the most logical to tie in with the Mariners IMHO.

Yeah now we're talking I think!
I think these are all viable and would just come down to more a case of taste.
I think sailing would work and has been suggested multiple times in the past yeah?
Though as to O flower... dating with Lawrie's (may my tongue fall out) departure,
I don't think so as I think once you change the lyrics it won't really such a biggy.
Though in some ways, we'll always be the flower of Scotland so too speak ;D

Probably with taste being what it is, maybe everyone should contribute their suggestions, like Yellow and Sailing etc... and if a lot come in, we vote and get our top ten - otherwise vote and get our top 3, and then from the top "whatever" we pen some different lyrics and call for a final vote on them?

Otherwise just can't see that there's ever likely to be enough mutual agreement to get something the backing it would need to truly get going...
