ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I tried getting a few chants started but got shut down for it. Is it any wonder the bay is going to be quiet if people won't take a chance on new material?

Were you the guy who started the "If you hate Joel Griffiths clap your hands"
and.. "If you hate newcastle clap your hands?"
Whoever started those chants should be slapped. Newcastle were not within cooeee of yesterday's match. Stick to the script and concentrate on who were are actually playing at the time.

+1    Can start off with just 2 verses, then maybe eventually a crack at the whole song. makes for an awesome football song

Wise men say only fools, only fools rush in
but I, but I, I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay
would it be, would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you

Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
some things are meant to be
take my hand, take my whole life too
for I can't help falling in love with you
for I can't help falling in love with you

IMHO I don't like it, the traditional football chant to that tune is :

You are my Mariners
My only Mariners
You make me happy
when skys are grey
You'll never notice
how much I love you
So please don't take my Mariners away

Yeah but that has been done to its death and now when its sung in the bay its just another one of those half assed nothing chants that 10 people sing. Actually, when was the last time we sung that?

it's *not* to 'you are my sunshine'. it's to the tune of 'this land', a folk song (which the jibjab folks turned parodied in the video above).

i'm happy to sing the other one as well, but god only knows we need more songs, and when we sang it at christie park it got a few thumbs up. shall we send it further ideas past the musical director for final approval?

and just quietly, the notion of 'traditional football songs' can go get f**ked. we should sing what we feel like singing, not just whatever has been handed down over the generations and is therefore proper terrace material. if we were to take that to its logical conclusion and restrict ourselves to only those things already sung in the old country then we'd have about 5 songs that everyone else already sings.

oh wait, that's what we're trying to get away from...

Sorry for having an opinion......others share my opinion also but have not said so on here

I agree we need more chants and all suggestions are valid but surely people can say whether they like them or not?

I also agree that people should sing what they want, but who's the musical director you speak of? I wasn't aware we had 1?

Think the musical director quip was in jest ;)
As for singing songs that have come from elsewhere, who gives a flying if they aren't original.
would be hard pressed to find a original song, be it in the tune or words.

When we lost the v1 gf, I sat down and started to cry a little

Deej saw me, and sang pretty bubbles to try and cheer me up

Whenever I think of that day, or the mariners for that matter, I think of that song

Lets sing pretty bubbles...

not a fan of the "sunshine, this land" song. I have no problem replicating UK songs to suit our team, I dont think weve got enough unique songs that catch on and people sing so why not?
Weve tried loads of first time songs over the years and IMO if they dont work after 4 or 5 goes move on and dont push it .People will sing what they like and can pick up easily.

Oh Bear, blow your bubbles out your ass

I really like the way the Man City club plays "Blue Moon" over the PA after the players come onto the ground and take up their positions. The entire ground sings, holding their scarves up. Very effective - let's the opposition know exactly whose house they are in, so to speak.

We should have a club song - yellow something, play it over the PA and we are stand there, holding our scarves up over our heads.

Thoughts, anyone... :grouphug:

Personally I love seeing the Kop sing Walk on, or Man City sing blue moon, or West Ham sing blowing bubbles...........not sure how effective it would be for us thou, especially when the stadium is half full.

Starts with a mere ripple and then....... Even if we in Bay 16 started doing it first then the other bays would join in surely. Got to start somewhere.
