Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Forum LM was quoted earlier as saying that there are a few yoof guys that are capable of making a show this year.
That will cover some back and mid positions however the yoof team does not have a stand out striker.
So any striker would have to come externally.
LM's NSL contacts are all dried up(to old)  now so his prospecting has to spread and develope a scouting program which will enable CCM to always have a target in mind and with this in place player rotation will increase as we will not be so patient with some players (yoof excepted)

I'm excited about the centre of excellence....
But I think I'd be even more excited if I knew we had also been focusing on establishing a world class scouting outfit/network as such a scheme might make us even more excellent than a centre for excellence! ;D

OK, let's ask this:
- how much room in the cap is there for an effective striker, if it won't be as marquee?
- have all possible options from Australia been exhausted yet?
- have any possible options from overseas been explored if that's the case?

Over to you for this one

Ah but I would love some sort of fan Q&A relationship with the club.
Fans get to submit questions, then vote, and then the mods VET and submit the top ten questions to be answered to the best of their ability by the club.

Won't happen. But would be awesome imo.

I must be the only one who thinks D-Mac is actually playing pretty well at the moment. He's come back from shoulder surgery and has had to either play off the bench at times which is never easy or play out of pozzie a bit. In defence of the strikers they are not getting much in the way of your typical strikers chances each game. If Macca was missing chances i would be more inclined to criticise, but the way we are currently playing we are scoring most of our goals from midfielders coming through the middle. I know Nik missed an absolute sitter the other week but apart from that there hasn't been too many glaring misses from the forwards. Truth is they have not been given many opportinities to score. Even with Matty's 3 goals, 2 of them have been created out of nothing, just his tenacity and speed.I think the only true strikers goal we have scored this year has been against MV in round 1. Saying that, very pleased the way the team is going and will be more than happy if the middies continue to keep scoring as long as the team is winning. Even with a marquee striker, if he isn't getting chances, he won't score either.

I see what you mean but I see it slightly different. Currently, we have (arguably) the best midfield we have ever had. Your comparison between Matty and the other strikers is correct, and is the exact reason why they are not performing. Matty benefits from chances created from midfield but mainly creates chances for himself. This is the work of a true striker, who as you said, creating chances 'out of nothing'.

Dmac and Mrdja are not in form, and hence are relying on the midfield giving them chances. To me, they seem (especially Mrdja) not hungry to create things for themselves or to open up gaps in the opposition defence for others, and are basically wishing the ball presents itself in a good position for a shot.

I feel that a quality striker (marquee preferably) would start creating chances for themself aswell as be fed by our quality midfield. This is what Matty does and is why he score goals. Other examples are Archie, Michael Bridges, Smeltz, etc.

Am I the only one who doesn't care if the strikers don't score (that is, the goals are scored by other than the strikers?)

More than happy to see them play a game holding the ball up for the mids of which we've now got a number with a good boot. And some of the defenders. They do need to be busier and smarter to do this.

And we know that Matty's unorthodox, bustling, annoying game will continue to pick up scraps from minor defensive lapses anyway. All good.
