Scum Derby to be postponed 27 Nov

Today the Scum confirmed they'll be playing LA Galaxy on November 27 at EnergyAustralia Stadium...

...the same night they're scheduled to be playing us at the same venue.

Which to me says, obviously it's going to be re-scheduled. How can the Jets club or FFA condone this given the F3 Derby is one of the most intense rivalries in the A-League, and the fact it's 15+ weeks into the season before it even happens?

Ridiculous.

Oh well, the longer the wait, the sweeter the victory I suppose...

The Newcastle Jets will play host to the LA Galaxy, featuring superstars David Beckham and Landon Donovan, for an exhibition game on Saturday 27th November at EnergyAustralia Stadium, having agreed to terms for the challenge match late last night.

In an amazing coup for the Hunter Region, the Jets together with the State Government of NSW, in particular Minister for the Hunter, Jodi McKay, the Galaxy will spend four days in the region.

“Jodi, together with the Jets, have worked very hard over the past 72 hours to ensure this exhibition match happens for the people of the Hunter. On behalf of the Jets I thank the NSW Government sincerely for their financial support and the great personal support provided by Jodi to get this deal over the line,” said Ken Edwards, Executive Chairman of the Newcastle Jets.

Minister for the Hunter Jodi McKay is excited not only about the tourism opportunities this presents but also the economic and general exposure benefits to the Hunter.

"This is fantastic news for football fans and for tourism in the Hunter. The phenomenal global interest in David Beckham, World Cup hero Landon Donovan and the LA Galaxy team means Newcastle and the Jets will be in the spotlight for sports enthusiasts from around the world,” said Minister McKay.

"There's sure to be a great deal of global media interest in David, Landon and the LA Galaxy visit to Newcastle and in the game itself. It’s sure to generate interest in Australia and around the world for the Hunter as a great place to spend time.”

The Jets will be formalising ticketing deals and other exciting opportunities for fans over the coming days.

“We will be making sure families and young footballers have the opportunity to be exposed to this once in a lifetime chance to see one of the world’s premier footballers in action,” said Executive Chairman Ken Edwards at the announcement.

“Tickets will go on sale in a staged manner, with our original and very loyal Season ticket holders and Members the first to be able to secure their seats. This will be followed by new family season ticket holders who have joined following our great ticketing offers and then the general public. We encourage people interested in tickets or corporate hospitality to register their interest via the Jets website,’ said Ken.

“This is such an exciting time for the Jets and the football family, we can’t wait to roll out our next stage,” he said.

The LA Galaxy are presented by Herbalife, a global network marketing company that sells weight-management, nutrition, and personal care products intended to support a healthy lifestyle. Herbalife will also be an official sponsor of the match between the Galaxy and Newcastle.

This is actually fantastic news for me as I wasn't able to make the derby on it's original date :D

I couldn;t make it to Newcastle that night either, but Central Coast Mariners team and fans are shafted by FFA again!

Washed up old Becks! Been done twice before.

Another balls up by FFA!

Week 16 F3 derby due to be played that night vs CCM as scheduled for the season!

Disgraceful insult to the A-League!

Jets should forfeit, or play at time and place to suit us!

Wasn't it going to be the boy's 4th game in 11 days? Surely its good for them to have a break cause that's a fair bit of game time.

Agree, can't help thinking that this would have been run through Mariners HO for the ok, and Arnie's said you little beauty.

One would hope Scum & FFA would've had the courtesy to consult with CCM before the decision was made.
If such consultation happened and our club agreed to it, I don't have a problem. After all, those guys aren't going to hang around forever while we try to fit them in somewhere. This is a great marketing opportunity for the League, it could bring in a lot of non-fans, who just might be converted to fans.
Those of you who've viewed Becks in the flesh before obviously don't want to go there again, but others like me who haven't would be delighted for the opportunity. I don't care if he's getting on a bit - I'd even go along to see Pele in spite of him being older than me.

I hate going to the scumdome, so maybe a time and a place of our choosing (gosford sometime? :p ) would be good, Maybe some time we otherwise have a week off?

Problem is we have 11 games in 7 weeks after that date - so it would have to come forward and we don't have any more 'weekends off' after this weekend

its just deadset wrong...bottomline.....whether they ran it past CCM, FFA, whoever, just cancelling matches at whim is a smack in the face to the HAL and the fans.....i say we take the 3 points for a forfeit....

If CCM, NJ, FFA all agree to it how is it a smack in the face?

How is it a smack in the face to fans? The match gets rescheduled, life goes on. The match hasn't been cancelled.

If CCM had the chance to play a large international team, I'd bet you'd be the first one's kicking and screaming if the Jets blocked the game. Lighten up mate.

It can't be a big international team - the smurfs beat them!!

I say its a forfeit, they wont need the gate takings from our game after all, cause Becks will have 'the jesters hanging from the scaffolding ( cause they got no choice, the seats are half missing)

can confirm.

You are having yourself on Fedelta.

There are already 2 games that night - 7pm and 9pm - when is it to be played 5pm or 11pm?

I'm retired - I can even train it up for 5pm - but not sure Fox will agree on that time midweek.
