ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Patrick Wood to Perth and rumours that we are in for one of them too
Interesting, how times have changed. We all know SFC will open up the purse strings for mature players and overseas players so the young talent will be worse off. Clubs that promote youth should get a bonus from the APL. But no let’s support the big clubs who are all about themselves. Until the APL realise this the league will be ordinary.

Been saying this for years. Short sighted stupidity and greed. Shooting their own future in the foot.

Pretty sure you used to get salary cap concession for players with 5+ years at the club and yoof (homegrown) guys. Obviously doesn't suit citeh or smurfs so probs doesn't exist anymore

. suits them just fine - let us consider Sydney for example*:
  • two designated players completely exempt
  • players with 4 or more years at the club can have part of their salary exempt
    • this means that all the Mariners alumni (except Musti) are eligible for a 'loyalty' concession at Sydney!
    • only 50% of Grant's salary would count towards the cap
  • 4 U23 youth graduates don't need to count towards the cap
    • and as we have seen this season, apparently they don't even need to appear on the bench
  • all this means that there is plenty of 'cap space' left to outbid everybody else for a player like Musti or, say a grubby-Penha
. contrast this with the Mariners who may be entitled to youth concessions but we need that salary to count toward our cap floor

* i don't know if this relates to the current season as the APL doesn't make these things very visible (or it could just be my lack of internet skillz)
