It seems we have filled every position on the field where we were a little short, except for up front

We miss Sasho, end of

sasho cannot even get a run with a shite newcastle

we do need another potent striker but not sasho - he is past his used by date

Bear in mind that Supercoach is attempting to run the show up there.....

Too much long ball from the back. And I think that it is positive that Boogard is getting up and down the wing he just needs to do some more work on his crossing. I must admit it was good to see Caceres make some of his normal mistakes while in possesion.

And some work on his "speed" Christ he is slow. Years ago I used to travel to North Sydney to watch Northern Spirit they had a guy called Clayton Zane some of you may remember him? He was so slow we called him "Parachute Man' because it was like he was running with a parachute strapped to his back!

i thought that was the best team performance in a nil all by the mariners ive seen.  very solid defense, creative hard working mid's controlling the ball (when we had it) making lots of slight chances but there were no real wasted obvious chances or blown sitters, so not the usual frustration of a 0-0.

Its weird having boogs getting so far up the field... i kept freaking out then remembering "oh yeah he's on the wing!

What we need is a white anglo saxon "Slippery Fish"?

What about one of the former Roar lads who play for Universitatea Craiova. Michael Baird? Josh Mitchell? Josh Rose? Spase Dilevski?
I don't really know much about them (apart form Baird being a gun on FM08), but are they the type we are looking for?

Draw a reasonable result. Wouldn't read too much into the performance, it was probably blowing a gale. Think we will do OK against Sydney and must fancy our chances against the Fury.

Every time we long balled it, we gave away possession and Wellington came at us and looked dangerous at times. Every time we were patient and played through midfield, we kept the ball and were ready for the counter if we lost it. That is, IMO.

Why in hell were we playing so much long ball, especially in the first half?

Nor even Sasho in general :)
He's only played two full 90s so far this HAL, no goals & two yellows. Looks like CCM made the right decision to refuse his demands.
However, we definately need someone quick & slippery to partner our big fellas. At the moment the guys up front are too similar making them too easy to mark.
If you look at the figures from last HAL, we scored a sh*tload of goals UNTIL Sasho was dumped. From then on we struggled, and the same guys are still there and still struggling. Against New Bling last week we looked a whole lot different because we had a quick & slippery guy (Travis) frequently getting into the mix, making the defence have to handle different types of player. On Sunday that didn't happen and we were much less effective.
Is Crowell a Travis-like player? If he is, maybe have him in Travis' place and Travis as a second striker. I know Travis calls himself a mid, but maybe it would be worth a go. We've just got to have more variety up front.

Josh Mitchell is a left wing back or Central Defender - looks like he will be traded to Asia soon

From 442 magazine in June - Spase Dilevski - the fans favourite of the four Australians playing at Universitatea Craiovax; now playing as a holding midfielder - a real gem.
Josh Mitchell - a very solid defender, most consistent player
Michael Baird - weakest of the four (Aussies). not technically gifted, good  work ethic
Joshua Rose - incredibly versatile. Dynamic, loves to attack. The fans love him.

I remember Dilevski as a skilful but inconsistent attacking midfielder with the Roar; Baird (also the Roar?) just ran with his head down and got nowhere.
I think it is about time these boys came home with the A League expanding again next year

When the A league first kicked off Josh Mitchell (who played with Newcastle United in the old comp) could'nt get a run with either Newcastle, NZ Knights or Perth.  He went overseas and was snapped up by the Romanian club and is currently on US$240k PA.

Mighty hard to compete with that!

However I can't imagine the lifestyle being all that attractive (or the shelias for that matter) ;)

Matty looked like he was carrying a knock to me. Put himself about as always, but slower off the mark and on the turn.

Forget star performances from Matty before 5pm. When the suns out he struggles.

must say i now realise i had blinkers on for caceres when he was here, he was only really dangerous when he just ran the ball

Yeh, it was funny; every time he did something good, he immediately gave away the ball often giving us a run through midfield hehe

Back 5 were superb (maybe Heff slightly less so but still good).
Middies were good especially Hutch and Travis.
Strikers were avearge but not terrible.  It was not a bad showing and we should be reasonably happy.
But for sloppy play by Matty we would now be top of the league.
