442 or 433 not 4-5-1.

I'm not quite sure what's wrong with a 4-5-1 myself, especially when it's basically changeable during a match to a number of formations. In spite of what people think, it regularly changes shape during a match - even play to play. It sometimes looks different in attack to what it looks like in defence. It's flexible, and the players have to be flexible within it.

Names put in are merely for illustration:
4-5-1
              Vukovic
    Porter Boogs Wilko Heff
Travis Pedj McGlinchey Hutch Kwasnik
                Simon

4-2-3-1
          Vukovic
Porter Boogs Wilko Heff
        Pedj Hutch
Travis McGlinchey Kwasnik
            Simon

4-4-1-1
        Vukovic
Porter Boogs Wilko Heff
Travis Pedj Hutch Kwasnik
      McGlinchey
          Simon

4-3-3
        Vukovic
Porter Boogs Wilko Heff
Pedj McGlinchey Hutch
Travis Simon Kwasnik

Lastly, we started with a 4-3-3 the other day (in theory at least) and we were bollocks all day. There's more to whether we're going to play well or not than the nominal formation we walk out with.

Not a good time to be playing Perth. Attack wise, they are looking the best iv'e seen them in since the a-league and off the back of 2 good wins. I'm hoping 1-0 Mariners if doig is back in and Mrdja is benched.

Sent an email to a mate who is down in Canberra has a bit to do with the A_league bid down there and asked him the following... he is a rusted on hard core guy and loves football.

Whats it like in Canberra ... much media about the match... what sorta of crowd do you think the match will draw...

Thanks

His reply .... Fook I hope he is wrong...

Not much about the game at all in the mainstream media. So not looking good.

Think 5,000 would be good, huge given the professional organisation of our football body, the football community is very poorly organised in this town and couldn't promote anything very well.
Those of us involved last time, thru the A-League Bid got 20,000 to the Socceroos last time, this time we're not involved for various reasons (mine is health) and as such the promotion has been pretty poor in my view.

Glenn mood from some seems to be this which probably reflects the view:

1. Gotta go it's the A-League, it's football and let's shout for Canberra.
2. Mariners have good support in town due to their work over the eyars so will get a good turn-out
2. Why would we go the Mariners haven't done anything for Canberra..they haven't taken one of our young players.
3. The FFA have shafted Canberra on the A-League so let's stick it up them by not going.

Adelaide v Perth in Gosford...would hte punters be desperate to see that....don't think so!

Football will only work in Canberra if we have our own team, the Mariners are not our own team, have little connection to the community, certainly no players etc and no connection to the city beyond one club. Don't be fooled by the hype from your end:)
And local media have no reason to promote this game as their is no local angle.

I could be completely wrong, we'll see. Hoep I am.

I'm predicting the smallest A-League crowd in Australia ever! and remember we've had 7,200 for pre-season friendlies which meant nothing.

NICKY Travis's early impact at Central Coast Mariners should see him rewarded with a starting slot against Perth Glory in Canberra on Friday night.
His contribution off the bench in a 1-0 defeat against Brisbane Roar last week has convinced Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna to give Travis a shot from the opening whistle.

"He's done everything asked of him since he's been at the club," said McKinna, who is still unsure who will make way for Travis.

"When he came on against Brisbane he made an impact, that's all you can ask from a replacement. He's good with the ball at this feet and works well with the strikers."

After a horror run with injury, Travis came to Australia hoping to get regular action and will now be under pressure to keep his place in the team.

"I'm loving the lifestyle on the coast," Travis said. "I'm still getting used to the weather, in Sheffield it's pretty much always cold and raining.

"It's taken a bit of time but things off the pitch are good which makes things easier on the pitch."

Travis loves to push forward and his link play with the Mariners strikers will be a key factor against Perth.

The former Sheffield United man added: "I like to be advanced and support the strikers.

"This is my chance to cement my spot."

Well 4433 is the figure to beat isn't it? having said that our lowest crowd at Grahame park isn't much better  :-\

1632 is the all time low for an a-league game in Auckland, come on Canberra!

If we do go out with that 11 then there is no way it will be 442. they might say its 442 but more likely 4411 with weemac sitting well behind simon

Why not? Weemac is fast and can get in behind players with runs. Simon is getting to isolated up front and needs support. They will play a diamond in midfield with Hutch at base and Travis at the top. Kwas and Porter will tuck in to help Hutch if needed.

Will be very hard for weemac to be the front line against the defences in the a-league. If LM does play him there then i think its a waste. Better playing a triangle in midfield with weemac and travis at the front and the point being hutch at the back. 4-1-4-1 or 4-3-2-1

What's Doig got to do with it.  The defense has been solid without him. The early reports about him being injury prone seem to be true (He re-injured himself at training this week)

It's goals we need!

Whats Doig got to do with it? Doig is our central defender, he was a rock in our first game down in Melbourne.

While we do need goals, we'll always take points home if we keep a clean sheet and with Doig at the back we are much more comfortable.
