But they upped it from 4 cards to 5 this season anyway didn't they? I'm fairly sure that was done this season for the very reason that the season got longer, I remember a PFA thing about it. (I could be wrong it may've gone from 4 -> 5 last year, but I'm fairly sure it was this year in line with more rounds)

That's an absolutely terrible system. Pick a number and stick with it ffs. Anyone who missed Rnd 21 due to a yellow card in Rnd 20 will be rightfully pissed off at seeing Matt Simon suit up this weekend.

Cards to get wiped for the finals. Not sure if they increased the finals card suspension from 2->3 as was mooted - I hope they did.

Not if your from the GC, they wouldn't be trembling in their boots about his form.

I was at Hill St this morning and Heff and the physios were all talking about him being suspended this week so you would assume the club thinks he's suspended as well. That will teach me to evesdrop!!!

Personally I'd be tempted to play 4-2-3-1 but won't happen.

------------------Vuka
Boogs------Wilko------Doig-------Heff
-----------Pedj-------Hutch
Porter--------McGlinchey--------Kwas
------------------Mrdja

Whether Simon is free or not I'd bench him, it may be what he needs?

Game will be won in midfield, if Travis is to play then he could slot in behind Nik and provide him some creative support he lacked in Adelaide, WeeMac could do the same but is out of form.

Clark ain't a left back and IMO would be roasted against GC, Heff there would be more reliable.

I dare say Lawrie will keep faith in the same lineup though

Thats a decent line up Deej. Agree that it will probably be the same 11 as against Adelaide though.

While Nik is a decent target man with the ball to feet, the temptation will be to hoof it over his head and their CB's will eat it up.

also concerned about our mids coming through to support him too

mrdja is perfect for the point man in a 4-2-3-1.

with deej's shape, in planned attack we have heff come alongside kwas in the midfield wherever possible so kwas basically plays inside left and weemac inside right (in old WM parlance) and basically either switch to a back three or have hutch or pedj drop into left back and leave the other screening/libero in what's then a 4-1-4-1.

in a breaking attack nik would be up all the time, but we'd expect to see weemac out and up the middle a short pass from nik very early and the other to blasting out to create wide options as soon as possible and hit just like melbourne - with pace but also having a bloke who can take a touch and have a look while two defenders are trying to have his shirt from his back (bless our nikola, he's a f**king gun at the moment).

in defence it crushes down to a deep 4-2-3-1 or more likely 4-5-1 and we compress the space around the ball to turn the opposition back up the park and force an error. as soon as we win the ball in midfield we create a switch early or if it's not on bring it back, all the way to danny if need be and build slowly. we score from broken play and errors, so these slow movements aren't the times we score, they're the times when we hold the ball and ensure *they're* not scoring. not every play and movement is about immediate punishment.

I like Deej's 4231. Have advocated it before now this season as I think it fits our squad.

I think we are physically a stronger team than GCU with more heart for a scrap, and we need to use this. I love da sexy foooootball, But fact is we need to bully and frustrate the living crap out of them. It won't be pretty but FFC's right, we need a win, and unless we can finally regain our earlier form, GCU on current form will be very hard to stop - so we might need to break them then beat them.
