Round 20 - Sydney FC [H]

We’ve been f**ked royally many a time. More often than not VAR does so without spitting.
But we have literally just been sexually assaulted by VAR.
How can they say wilko would’ve got there? And if Kim wasn’t a mil offside then his block is fine? What a f**king stitch up.
For those at the ground, Staj is ready to murder someone, anyone right now.
Just yelled “f**k off dickhead!” and stormed after a Sydney coaching staff member and there was some handbags in the sheds.

Because it wasn’t given as a foul for Kim’s block it was given offside because Kim was about a mill offside.
Not arguing that he blocked him.
But wilko wasn’t tracking Stens at any point.

The call was correct - Kim was in an offside position, and had he not been in Wilko's way he would have had every chance to get to the drop zone. It's an easy call for me. Also, even without the arms around Wilko, just being in his way is enough.
Jeez...so we've had that moment of idiocy by Kim, Miller's moronic tackle, and an uncharacteristic fumble by Biraz - of course compounded by too many players watching the GODDAMN BALL AND NOT THE OPPONENTS!!!!

How are professional players so lacking in the basics?

KGJ and Beath have a strong record against us.

From the other angle it looked like Kim was pushed offside.

When Retre was pinged for the foul for that free kick staj actually made the call to the 4th official... “he won’t get a second yellow, he’s with Sydney”

But anyway
We’ve been much much better than them.

Watch it on Kayo, Wilko would easily have reached the drop zone. Kim's interference meant he didn't have a chance to contest the header. Nobody's saying Wilko would have stopped the goal - but he would have been able to contest the header. That's enough.
And yes, if Kim wasn't offside the block would have been fine - what's difficult about that? You can be guilty of interfering with an opponent simply by standing still if it's blocking that player's path (or the keeper's view).

Wilko initiates the contact, Kim only raised his hands for a second to help stand his ground. So in fact Wilko makes Kim engage in the play apparently making Kim offside.

f**k that sucks

On the plus side. The lads are playing some brilliant football. Much better than Sydney. Clisby is having a cracker, Miller melted but has made up, Stens is soaring, Nizzy is nipping about... That passing at the 25th minute was superb.
We are completely dominant in the middle! This is a team on the rise lads!!!
Come on the second half!

We looked good for large portions of that, some good stuff going forward but typically lacking the last 2 passes and shooting chance. Nisbet is great.

Clisby is at last finding form though. His corners, free kicks and crossing are spot on and he's defending like a trooper at Custer's last.

Looked at the replay. Kim pushed him to an offside position.

Kim stepped back across into his path. It wasn't Wilko's push that made the offside - it was what Kim did after that. Can't put that one down to Wilko's actions. Kim did something completely stupid and he should have known better - he clearly forgot he was offside.
It was a pity for Stens I thought, but that's football. Pretty exciting stuff though!

Isn't that what happened? The offside line occurs after Wilko's contact...
As in when clisby kicks the ball, Kim is moving back to his spot but still offside from the push...
I see that now - had to wait for the right angle.
Actually, yeah, I think you're right.
Thing is, the best case scenario for us there is a retake of the kick. Push was before the kick so can't disallow the goal for a penalty, and the offside offence still means you can't have the goal.
One of those messy situations where there's no fair outcome with the way the law is written
