Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

I was in Bay 16, and the only time they really made themselves audible from our end was after the 4th and the 5th goal...
Agree the supporters bay at home games does a great job but Jets supporters bays really stuck it to us as you say after the last two goals.

he used his size and power like the old pro he is .
i still think our only way is up
i still think they'll be chewing wood come april .

Scum will not get the spoon. They are more likely to be top 6 than us.

Scum's defence was way better than ours. Merrick took Okon to school tonight. Roy the Snake looked fantastic...the dirty spud thick Irish bastard! Same as when Matty Simon plays against us...they can't believe the sub schoolboy defending...and fill their boots.

I dragged along a Newbie today (Sydney resident with a business on the Coast). He loved the experience but im not sure he will be back.

It's the face holding I was referring to. I don't think he necessarily chose to go down when chest bumped. It was sufficient of a bump to knock somebody over. Be interesting to see if the MRP step in about the faceholding though.
Was pretty close to it and was a terrible dive.. Definitely not wanted here but it's typical of Spanish and South American players. Seriously the bump wouldn't have knocked a drunk man over. Was a flop.

Great start. We looked fantastic until Roy got the wobbles.

Tom H was very good on crosses, we missed that last year.

The rest was horrible

Two things failed today

1) Our defence especially McGing and Golec
2) The VAR system. At least 3 incidents in the first half should have been reviewed - none were. The match commissioner apparently read the riot act to the officials at half time and in the second half even obvious decisions were reviewed.

We talk about back 4's and back 3's etc. we would have killed to have 3 anywhere near the back. Was a back 2 at best.

Also I felt Wout was a fair way apart from the CB's and there was no desire the help the CB's out. huge gaps.. The hole son the wings were huge. Very exposed. Newy only came up our end a couple times in 1st half and scored or offside goal every time.

DDS was to far back in the 1st half but worked his socks off in the 2nd. Great hustle, needed more like him.

Asdrubal was good got in good position and will be good this year, just cut the dive crap out.

Paulo had a shocker, didn't adjust to the arse kicking we were getting on our fullbacks.

Congratulations to Roy, the pressure was immense, great TIFO and lots of press, some nice big boo's.

Then bang, bang, bang

Shut everyone up. Credit to him

Still a big snake but you got to tap your hat sometimes

The bloke next to me even clapped his 3rd just out of appreciation for a good goal (was a Mariners fan). It was a nice header

Well we started well and the movement (early on) and one touch passing was very promising.
But an appalling defensive display...from the mids as well as the back 5....led us to our worst every season openor. Again BIG question marks on whoever is suppossed to be the defensive coach.

Glover 1. He was my first choice and the defence hung him out to dry BUT i would be very suprised if he starts infront of Kennedy next week. Trott like display.
McGing 2. Simply has no idea how to play RB. The communication between him and Baro was not existent. Scum always had a player free at the back stick.
Rose 5. Not the worst.
Baro 4. Apart from smashing Paddy at the end he was poor and didnt organise his back 4
Golec 4. One lovely block saved us conceeding 6 but he was not really required standard. Again no organisation of the back 4. They all just ball watch like 7yo kids oblivious to the players they should be picking up.
Appiah 2. Useless. Diagonal runs to draw space......apparently he hasnt heard of the concept.
Tommy. 4. Substandard. We really missed Monty today. He was my pick for player of season before today.
Wout 4. Average but some positive aspects.
Pain 6. Some decent moments but not cool under pressure.
Asra 6. Too short to win anything in the air but looks decent. The fluky goal was a bonus
DSS 5. He has lovely feet but needs to do more.

I think we need to switch to 442 coz Asra is too short.
Hoole for Appi will help alot.
Flog the back 5 or maybe make them watch video of Scum back line or Jade North last night in a shit Brisbane side.....they have alot to learn.
Keep McGing away from the defence!!

One thing I noticed was too much ball in the air for Asdrubal. Every time he got outjumped by Hyphenator, Boogs or Kantarovski. Looked alright when he got the ball down low. Other teams will notice that.

I've watched all three games so far and even the commentators are saying our game is likely to be the best of round 1. I don't think we should be suicidal after tonight and even the Fox guys reckon the score didn't represent the game. The Jets had one of those special games with 5 goals from 12 attempts at 58% and it probably will not happen again this season. We actually had 63% possession and 20 shots. That's more shots in one game than 3 games last year. Ref was poor and lost control of the game, soft pen and let the Jets chop our players down all game which they did very successfully. We are a team of shorties so the bigger teams is stature will cause us issues with an inexperienced Ref. At least we scored from a corner and we look more threatening from set pieces. We would have beaten Roar or City this weekend had we played them first game. I always thought the Jets were going to be hard to beat so whilst the result is very hard to handle there is still a long way to go and how the boys respond next weekend is important.

City would have smashed us.
Apart from Kamau's goals, and they were pretty lucky, City weren't great. If we played how we did in the first ten for a full half we would have beaten them, Brisbane and probably Victory too. It was a very disappointing and aggravating game but I don't think all is lost and we can still push on and make the top six. We just need to either keep the ball better or tighten up our defence.

Gutting, but in truth I didn't know what to think at and after the game because overall I didn't think we were that bad. I could see us put 4-5 past WSW next week.

Ernie Merrick's comments that he expects us to cause some teams trouble and probably be top 6 says enough for me to move on.

In Mariner's history, that is our equal worst home A-League loss.
That 1-5 scoreline occurred in 2005 against Sydney FC and in 2010 against the Roar.

In both of those seasons we appeared in the Grand Final against those very same teams (...yeah, I know - with 0-1 and 0-0 regulation time outcomes but why ruin a good story :pirashoot:).

Could history repeat :headbounce:
