CELTIC are delighted to announce the signing of Australian Tom Rogic on a four-and-a-half year deal, subject to a work permit. (PC)

He is a nice lad that Tommy Rogic: when Reading couldn't get a work permit for him he came back to the Mariners for peanuts because they were the ones who had shown interest in him before; when the chance came to go to the UK it was Reading who had first dibs and now he is going to Celtic because they have taken the time to be nice to him in Spain instead of listening to what QPR may have to say.
I wish him well (I can't imagine him ever having a pint, never mind a pint of heavy), he is a wonderful talent and I hope he makes it all the way to the top. I expect to see him with the Socceroos in Brazil.
This was brilliant financial business for the club and possibly endorses the efforts they have made over the years to connect with football in Canberra (I wonder if the club will make a donation to Belconnen, or football in Canberra? I hope they do).
And life without Rogic will continue...there is a Premiership to win.

When David Carney was signed by Everton as an apprentice, his local Association was given a $5,000- development fee for him.
The two junior clubs he played for were given $1,250 each from that fee by the Association
It would be a fantastic gesture by the Mariners if a portion of his fee were given to his local club or Futsal team in the same manner.

...and when you're $3Mill or so in debt, you don't have the luxury of making generous donations, no matter how worthy the cause.

The reality is, the Mariners won't see a cent from the Rogic deal. All it will do is keep the wolves from the door for a little while... sorry, I mean... reduce the number of wolves at the door for a little while.

Regardless, it's good business from the club. Transfer fee, sell-on clause and performance clause. I don't think we could do much better at this point in our evolution.

Heh, you're not the only one with that problem mate ;)
When he first burst onto the scene here, I remember the TV Commentator stating that Rogic had said that it was "Rodgeick" (They were all scrambling to get it right because noone had heard of him ;) )
But now, they all seem to pronounce it "Rogitch", so I'm lost too ;)

Enjoy him either way, he should win you a trophy or two over time ;)

Welcome Bawbag and good question :D

Pretty sure I saw an interview where they asked Tommy himself how it was pronounced and he said Rodge-ick, which stuck for a while but now pretty much everyone says Rog-itc, so take your pick I guess.

Anyone that has "ic" in their name seems to have it pronounced as "itch", whether they like it or not.

Thanks for the answers it's appreciated ;) I'm thinking I'll stick with Rodgeick cause that's what I was calling him from the start but I can already tell everybody is going to be calling him Rogitch and its going to annoy me so much. Hopefully he clears it up once and for all soon.

Good luck In your derby match! ;)

Tom Rogic fever hits Scotland as deal signed
By Kathy Stone
Jan 18 2013 10:53
EXCITING Aussie prospect Tom Rogic has captured the imagination of Scotland after sealing a four-and-half- year deal with Glasgow giants Celtic.
The mid-season signing has been headline news across Scotland but it's still subject to a work permit being granted by authorities.
Scottish Television reports the 20-year-old playmaker will go before a Scottish FA panel at Hampden to endorse his employment in the UK.
Rogic was denied a move to Reading by the English FA a year ago but is unlikely to face any obstacles this time around as it is believed he will qualify as an "exceptional talent".
It's hoped his meteoric rise from virtually unknown amateur to Socceroo in the space of a year and his $750,000 move to Celtic after just 28 professional games will underline his "exceptional talent" status.
His arrival in Glasgow has sparked huge interest in Scotland as Celtic fans and their rivals eagerly devour any information on the new signing.
Celtic moved quickly for the player after he spent several days training with the team in Spain, getting the jump on EPL clubs Reading, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers as well as beating off interest from Spain.
The long-term contract shows faith in the ability and potential re-sale value of the former Central Coast Mariner who was available on a free at the end of the season.
And it could prove lucrative for both Celtic and Central Coast Mariners if Rogic lives up to his billing and impresses in the Scottish Premier League.
If Rogic continues to develop as he did in Australia, he could soon easily command a seven figure transfer fee if Celtic choose to sell him on - and Mariners are understood to be in line for 15 percent of any future resale value.
Celtic fans have been buzzing with the news with one forum thread headed: “Tom Rogic – our future No. 10?”
The UK’s Daily Mail referred to his “formidable reputation both as an athlete and for his ability to unlock defences”.

STV has been following Rogic’s story closely, looking at his rapid rise from obscurity to one of eight winners of Nike’s The Chance talent search and his introduction to the Socceroos.
They interviewed FourFourTwo Australia's online editor Kevin Airs about the new signing for their evening television news programme, and the full interview and story is available here.

Welcome Bawbag..
If you use some Logic you`ll pronounce it Rodge- ick, but with a scottish accent i`m not sure how it will sound.

Maybe just call him skippy!

Great posts Dibo.

Keep the faith true believer. (Ok, that was ironic)

Devastated to see him go. But all things considered, $750K and the 15% sell on clause really is great business.

And we can still win silverware. Though yes Tommy will be sorely missed.

BUT... to be honest, our most important player this season has not been Tommy, or Matty, or Bernie or even Dutchy or our captain or Pedj or the amazing Weemac... It's been Danny. A 35 year old striker DESTROYING the A league.
And why? Well, he says because of the TEAM and the COACH and the SYSTEM and the CLUB.

Don't mistake me, I think we have our toughest challenges to come. We got it wrong against MV. Good time to learn some lessons and escape with a point. I think Weemac needs to play #10 and Olly should start.
Do that and I think we can still do the double. And I also think Duke is the next player who can go nuts for us. That kids got a bucket of goals in im I reckon.

Good luck to Rojas if this happens. Bad luck to Victory, who'll miss him a hell of a lot more than we'll miss Tomas.
