WHAT a goal from Hutchinson. Contender for goal of the year, would be right up there! Hard-fought win, but as important as any for a place in the top 4 looks ever more secure- if Melbourne and Queensland draw then a top 2 spot looks a good bet. Pity I wasn't able to come up for this one as I've got a trip to prepare for- but hey, I'll be there in the New Year :)

Great night all around.

Great goal, great victory, great send off post-game for Jedi.

Those Asia 09 scarves looked fantastic as well. Where can I get my hands on one?

Happy New Year indeed!

Nik played great and was very unlucky not to score. Could have come off a bit earlier as his fitness was lacking somewhat, but a great effort overall I think.

Just stumbled back home so wont post in depth until I have seen a replay.

We looked awful in the final third against a v well drilled and 100% better Perth side than the one we smacked earlier in the season.

When Hutcho remembered to stay on the left, he was the best I have seen him since he did his knee. Goal was fully deserved too.

Obviously a great goal from Hutch. I thought we were headed for a draw to be honest. His best game of the season so far but still not up to his form of last year. I'm confident he'll improve to be back to his best by the semis.

Wilko deserves special praise. His form the last six weeks has been outstanding and I can't remember him being in better form than he is right now. He'll be on the plane to Indonesia for sure.

Disco showed in patches he can be the player we know he's capable of. Overall, a good effort for his first start of the season. Hopefully he can contribute for the rest of the season and show he deserves a new contract next season.

Just a word on Glory, Mitch has done wonders with them and next season they should be a genuine contender for the four. Their improvement the past six weeks is fantastic. It's a big call but I think the last month they have been the best team in the league. Not in terms of results but in the Football their playing. I have loved the way they try and play the ball on the ground and attack.

I thought Downie and Coyne were great tonight and I look forward to big crowds and a top four finish from them next season. It's important for the league we have a succesfull Glory. I look forward to seeing crowds over there like the old NSL days.

Agree David. They almost always take points against scum. They can do us a big favour v Melbourne. At the moment a top two finish seems a tad unlikely but we can do it.

I like the fact we have Queensland, Melbourne and Adelaide in our last three games. It means it's all up to us rather than relying on other results. Stupid thing to say, but if we're good enough, we'll top two. It's definitely not out of the question.

For me, anything less than ACL every year is unaccepatable. We've quckly built a culture of success and high standards, so moving forward anything less than at least ACL qualification is a failure. I think as a club and supporter base this should be our mindset. It's how every great club thinks.

We're not going to make ACL every year. I won't be out for blood when that happens.  ::)

Sure, we need to make every effort to be successfull, but its unrealistic to expect premiership or grand final success every year, year after year.

Of course it's not going to happen every year, I didn't say it would. What I'm saying it is should be our ambition and goal. It's an attitude and every great club around the world has that.

Think big. It's the goal of the club and it's what we as supporters we should think also.

Well, this game was close, but dour and not overly exciting. I have no problem with this, as Danny kept a clean sheet and there was a sense that Perth WOULD NOT score once Hutcho had done his Tim Cahill off-two-goalposts impersonation.

Danny was very good, Heff is still finding his way (he is not a creator, much more of an attacking threat when shooting), Wilko very solid, Pedj reliable, Osman had his moments with some good tackling, Porter can be dangerous when set free down the right.

Mile played with great heart, so-so distribution and was understandably stuffed at game's end. Hutcho showed some glimpses of confidence when playing down the left in the second half. I am humbled that I tipped him to score, the strike was a cracker.

Being brutally honest, the falling over act must stop, opposition players and referees have cottoned onto this, and it will hurt us if it continues. Got caught out defending Downey in the second half, and it nearly cost us big time. Should have been on target with a 2nd half right footer from 20m.

Caceres, I am just waiting for him to fully explode in a game. He is a real threat for the opposition, but needs to start scoring some goals soon.

Sasho was good, could have scored a couple of goals. He used his body strength really well.

Mrdja needs more match time, obviously. His lack of a right foot means that we have to set him up to step INSIDE on his left, from the right channel, much more often. Actually, Perth have some defensive issues with lefties stepping inside from the right, with Hutchinson, Petrovski, Mdrja AND Caceres exploiting this at times.

Our crossing was below average at best, our distribution in the attacking third was also inadequate. It will interesting to see who takes right-footed direct free-kicks around the box from now on, Porter or McAllister may be the first choice.

Good to get three points without McAllister or Simon. Next three games are a GREAT run-in to the finals, the Meow, the Tards & the Barrel Boys will be a litmus test for our lads.

It has to be said, a terrific crowd of 15546 caps off a great week for A-League attendances. May it continue.

Perth are a FAR better side under Mitchell, but the decision to omit Eugene Dadi was a mistake that helped us immensely. I'm looking forward to sipping a Coopers Pale Ale watching the Barrel Boys-Bling game from Australia's most beautiful cricket ground, and seriously hoping for a crushing Adelaide win.

Thought we were the deserved winners of this match, tbh. We dominated Perth who did look a bit off the pace, IMO, and we certainly played better than last week and certain other games. We were by far the team with better attacking runs, but our final pass/cross/shot really hurt us, and needs to be worked on. Countless times we'd have something build up, only to see a cross fly over everyone's heads or straight to Perth's keeper.

Our defense was for the most part pretty good - Vukovic did well with what he had to do, albeit in injury time I thought he had dropped the ball, only for it to fall to a Mariners defender to clear, thankfully. Heffernan was rusty at times, and other times brilliant - hoping to see more of the latter as he plays more games. Porter did well too, but maybe he should do a switch with Osman in midfield? Osman played decently yesterday I thought unlike a few other times, but IMO he is even better in defence.

Midfield was good - Jedinak continues to be the great tacker that he is, and we will miss this now. However his passing has been rather off recently as I've noticed, and a few times yesterday he definitely made the wrong option or had poor execution. All the best to him though.

Hutch... hmm. I wasn't impressed by him tbh - numerous times he made bad passes, and some of his (unrewarded) dives were just embarrassing. He got a bit of stick from the crowd as well around me, and probably for a fair reason too. However... I'm willing to forgive him a certain amount for _that_ goal. Really came from nowhere. A bit lucky that it went in after hitting both posts (although if it bounced back into the field there was a Mariners player right there), but it was an _awesome_ strike.

Caceras was decent, but again his final pass/shot was definitely lacking. Sasho I thought did quite well - ran a lot and that chance he created by himself by taking on the last defender... pity he didn't score or pass it to Mrdja. Think he wanted to shoot in the end though as the keeper was looking to jump forward and intercept any passes... :/ Mrdja was ok - a bit rusty but promising; yet I don't think he'll start next week.

Gumps was fantastic when he came on (and how about the crowd's cheers for him!). He was great and very active, and kept us moving in the 2nd half until we scored. After the goal he looked solid in defence, which was good to see.

Hopefully next week our crosses and final passes actually work, as it was our weak point. Now with Jedinak gone, I think Gumps will be back in the starting line up, and Hutch will move into Jedi's spot... although if we had more skilled defenders for the ACL, Bojic IMO could do a fair job there given his attacking runs. :/ He could do better than Hutch there, IMO, even if he doesn't have the odd wonder goal. ;)

A nice buffer now between us and Wellington and Sydney - think we're darn close to being in the top four again now.  ;D

I thought we played pretty well last night and the team showed good patience. It took a long time for the goal to come but I thought we knocked the ball around well without resorting to some of the aimless long  ball  crap that we are sometimes guilty of.If I'm going to pick faults it has to be the crossing which was very poorly executed at times.

We're also far more solid at the back than we were 6 weeks ago.I and a number of others on here were pretty critical of Wilko a few weeks back but it's noticable that since Boogs got suspended and injured against Perth in round 13 and Bojic moved to the centre to partner Wilko the defence has stopped leaking goals.

After round 13 in Perth our record was.......P  W  D  L  F  A  PTS
                                                          13 4  6  3 26 20  18

In the 5 rounds since our record is............P  W  D  L  F  A  PTS
                                                          5  3  1  1  6  4  10

Since that game in Perth we've been losing less than a goal a game.Prior to that we were losing more than 1.5 goals a game.Ok as long as the forwards are putting the chances away and probably exciting for neutrals but I prefer to see my team with a solid defence.

So with Wilko and Bojic performing well,Porter playing well at RB and Heff coming back is there a place in our best line up for Boogs?

There's been a fair bit made of Perth leaving Dadi out and you could see why as it left them without much firepower up front.Compare that to the Mariners who had to leave out 2 of our best forwards and yet still come up with a win and played pretty well in the process.

So now we're top of the league for a day or two. With  all the games in hand for the teams below us we won't be there for long. But the good thing is these games in hand are all between these same teams so someone has to drop points.

With our last three games all being against these same teams winning the league is not out of the question.

So fire the f**k up cause...........

We're gawny win the league
We're gawny win the league
Cos now yer gawny believe us
Cos now yer gawny believe us
Cos now yer gawny belieeeeeeeeve uuuus
We're gawny win the league

:pirashoot: :pirashoot: :pirashoot: :pirashoot: :pirashoot:

Has anyone checked the stats on the A-League website? According to them, we had 92% of the possession. Now I thought we did dominate a bit, but 92%?!?!?

Oh dear. It's not the first time they made such a blunder, isn't it?  ::)

And before I forget - the crowd was indeed fantastic - more than I expected leastways - but credit to you guys for the singing and especially the tiffo! Looked _fantastic_ the way the whole stadium was yellow when they walked out onto the pitch. Any chance of that being replicated during the finals?
