The positive thing for me is that we have played the 2 best teams in the comp the last 2 weeks and both games we were in with a shout in the 90th minute. Wanderers were under the pump for a while before they scored. We really need some perspective....this is a rebuilding season and the players bought in will need time to get used to the pace of the A league. We have really missed Fab since he's been out, and with Austin missing as well at the weekend we didn't look like threatening too much. The youngsters are coming along though, Izzo, Austin, Posco & McGing have been great for me so far and look A league players. Young Rose, Kalick, Ascroft and Micky Neill will get there. We just need a couple more players of the quality of Fab or Monty and we will be a force again.

I'm heeding the Sim warning given to us early and see what you were talking about but he is not a starter. He is definitely playing well and yes has earnt sub rights but no way starter.

Fitzy is the same. We just lack top line talent and we can't swap subs for 1st 11 players.

IMO the following are not starting 11 material - Neill, Ascroft, Fitzy, Rose Snr as LW, Heff, Sim, Kalik, Bingham any others further down the list.
We need more top line talent to make this work. Bernie would be killing it with team and so might Dukey. Need an AM as a priority now.

I think we need a goalscorer as a priority. I don't feel like getting it to the strikers is our problem, it's getting them to do something with it around the box....

Roy has not had proper service - he needs ball to feet played quickly while he's running into dangerous channels, with a wave of support coming and drawing defenders and creating options for cut backs and one twos. This was happening better when we had Fab and Austin, but the final balls from Fab were often too long delayed imo and many of Austin's crosses, though quality, required someone tall and physical who can head well. Roy has proved he can score with his head, but isolated against two Aussie CB's he's going to get very little joy aerially. We have had the weakest penetration through the centre of virtually any side I have seen, but until we lost both wingers, both flanks were causing absolute havoc.

Saw McBreen having lunch with stomper today. Even at his age, would have been very happy to have him on our books.

Having overcome my emotional investment on Sunday I watched the replay this morning. We were lucky not to be 4 down at half time, the high line was a disaster and Castellan ripped Neill a new one down the left more than several times. He also did the same to McGing and Roux when he came inside later, Posco went following Nichols when he drifted into the hole. Neill also got pulled out of position away from his CBs (naturally worried about Castellan) as well as downfield when he gave away possession. We started off ok but after 10 min Caceras went missing, failed to provide the inside option for Rose and Fitz who were ineffective for much of the half.

Second half was much better although the failure to address the defensive issues led to their goal in the 65th minute after a similar scare happening about 10 min earlier. Caceras, Monty, Rose & Fitz were all much more active. Caceras is a divisive player when you read the comments on here, I am not a real fan but was surprised at how involved he is in much of our build up and attack. He is technically gifted and drew 6 fouls from WSW, a third of their total fouls conceded. His problem is that when he gets fouled, he will waste the free kick; he loses possession and fails to track back; receives the ball in the box and fails to take a shot. Sim almost changed the game when he came on, made about 5 crosses into the box, shot on target blocked, involved in a lot of the link up play. WSW scoring a second was inevitable once we took McGing off and failed to equalise. Funny game, we could have lost 7-0 but could also have grabbed a point at 1-1. WSW appeared comfortable for most of the game, they had 21 shots with only 3 on target, we had 8 shots with 4 on target (5 of those were from inside the box). We delivered 18 crosses but with little accuracy.

Agree.

Sim really added some spark when he come on. Deserves a start.
Based on form, agree.

For TW to say that he started with 4 up front is an admission of a tactical blunder, as is the failure to address the defensive set up during the game.

Dropping Neill will make a massive difference, same as it did last time.

However, we need to bring in a defensive coach (as TW and Hutch are obviously not defenders) to teach the boys the absolute basics.

Im thinking Dutchy for 3 or 4 sessions a week.

McGing, Ascroft, Posco, Roux and apparently the new kid are all good Footballers. All they need is some polish, structure and organisation.

FARK...still not settled.

Im struggling to think of another defender we have had that could organise a back 4???

Apart from Doig, who is long gone.

Could of had a great defensive coach with Heaps of Experience at A-League level with a pro licence that's is highly recommended for very little coin but he was rejected as he doesn't fit the new mold. He wanted to stay in the Central Coast too.

His time as NYL coach was not a happy one though was it? - they finished stone motherless last and he was subsequently sacked.

Without going into the allegations from both sides, I think its reasonable to assume he wont be part of the club again unless a massive backflip happens from both sides
