Rd 5 Mariners vs Melbourne Victory

Wasn't gonna go after all the crap from FFA to Perez. I'm glad I did go, took my 12 year old boy and him and his mates went down and annoyed the crap out of the Melbourne supporters. Had a couple of ales with my mates and despite not being the best game, was happy to see Victory playing so poorly, especially Musc--t(definately past it!). I'll be happy if they can grind out a few more wins like that when they obviously still have some improving to do. All in all, one of the most entertaining parts was hearing a mate screaming abuse at Musc--t persistantly for every minute of the game - I just hope the loser could hear some of it!

I have questions!
did we play well? (im getting two different answers from the same news outlet :S)
and therefore
did we deserve to win?
finally who else thinks that weemac and the argentinian magician in the two center mid roles
is the best combination (for that job) since jedi left?

why isnt doig playing in centre D along side Dutchie
with wilko pushed wide? just seems logical to me

still im stoked that we got up!

Cant see why you would change the Duthie/Wilko combination - they're a rock at the moment. Why fix what isn't broke?

Wasn't the most beautiful football from either team. Our two goals were well executed and we did threaten at other times so in my book that means we well and truly deserved them.

MV were playing through us high in their mid-field many times but our back 4 seemed to snuff everything out that made it that far. We were perhaps a little lucky that MV didn't pull the trigger earlier on occasion but hey that could also be a symptom of how difficult our back line was making it for them.

We didn't play the best we have but we did derserve to win, very comfortable at the back

We will always have either Hutch or Griffiths at the back of the diamond. Perez at the front Wee Mac out wide.

Cause Pedj is is going off ATM. Was probably our best on the field last night. Making brilliant runs and getting back.

If we can win 2-0 not playing that well with no real recognized play-marker. How much can we win by with the whole team playing good with addition of Perez.

This season has got a good feel to it getting the same excitement as i felt in the 3-0 comeback in the second leg of the final against the scum

LOL at the Sydney forum not understanding why we did a tifo about Sydney when we were not playing them. It's not all about Sydney all the f**king time it was a message for the FFA and not Sydney you twats.

It also helped that we crowded the middle by bringing Bozanic and McGlinchey in much more narrow than usual. This forcing the ball wide to Kruse and Mate, who were struggling to beat Rose and Pedj majority of the time, and crossing would not work with Zwaan and Wilko in the centre of defense. Arnie pointed this out in his post match interview.

I'd say McGlinchey and Bozanic will play a lot wider in other situations with a more attacking tactic, but last night was definitely playing for the result when Perez was out and with Melbourne's quality in attack. Good job again for Arnie IMO.

You would think at least one of them would be able to work it out.
If they couldn't, I'm worried that the muppets at FFA wouldn't have got it either.

Mum said some people near her at the other end of the stadium were laughing at it. There was also a thing in the Telegraph about everyone's protest banners.

Very happy after that game.

I thought we played alot better than some people are making out (or maybe it looks different on tv).

The defence was superb and built the platform for the win.

I was suprised how poor Victory were but we pressed and pressured well and apart from one small spell i thought we were always in control.

Both goals were very well taken and the second goal was beautifully constructed.

Ryan 6.5. Much better effort. Still slightly scary at times but looked more assured and has a massive boot. Looked better than Melb's keeper.
Bojic 7. Few shanks off the outside of the boot and got carved up once in first half but generally good and has great work rate. Should continue as first choice RB.
Dutchy 8.5 Superb. MOM.
Wilko 7.5. Good game.
Rose 7. Solid.
We are defending the best we have for the last 4 years so well done to coaching staff.

WeeMac 7. Good game.
Griffiths 8. Excellent return to form after poor game last week. Very dominant performance.
Hutcho 7. Solid.
Bozanic 7.5. Good game.

Simon 7. Usual good effort.
McBreen 7. Good all round game and top finish.

Well done on the Tifo boys and good support all game. Enjoyed the drunken little muscly dude that joined in at the end....got to love someone that is so drunk they fall over seats when they shake hands..LOL.

Well done to everyone involved at CCM after a tough week.

To all the fair weather supporters reading this get off your arses and support the team next week because you missed a good night and this team is capable of giving HAL a real shake this year.

Good analysis posted above, agree with the majority.

Just a shout out to young Matt Ryan, I was very happy for him to keep a clean sheet after his mixed bag in his debut. It will be the confidence booster he needs. He didn't have too much to do though what he was asked to defuse, he did so with confidence.

Agree on most except Hutch (5) & McBreen (6) ... tho Hutch had a very ordinary game his passing was poor and was often out of position... McBreen the goal saved him but he seemed quite slow for a forward..

But as someone mentioned earlier this side has that Hal 3 feel to it and the attack is starting to come together ... Olly & Rose down the left a great pairing and are working very well together... down the right weeMac & Pedj (boy has this kid come on under GA) but they are starting to work together well ... also weeMac has more structure to his game under GA and is starting to come into his own...

In the center we have our new Jedi in Griffiths ... he is younger than Jedi when he came taller not quite as strong but with a much better passing game than Jedi... and of course Perez... meaning we can attack down the wings and tho the center..

Then we still have Amini to come into the side .... Hutch will struggle to make the first team when everyone is fit but will make a good bench player...

I am still a little concerned about our midfield defense high up the park and we gave Herandez way to much room and we were lucky he did not punish us.

Still the season is looking better each week...

. also meant they were well positioned when the melbourne attack became frustrated trying to get through the defence and turned the ball back ... those balls came straight to us A LOT

. enough confidence to suggest at the post-match function that he didn't have much to do because he organised the back so well throughout the game. yes it was said tongue-in-cheek - but still showed a growing confidence without getting ahead of himself i reckon

And a big plus to GA for keeping him as a starter. Must have done wonders for his confidence knowing the boss & the team believed in him.
