Rd 5 Mariners vs Melbourne Victory

Thought that id start the thread early this week since the Sydney thread was only started 2 days before the game.

Both teams will be high on confidence coming it to this game with the Mariners coming home strongly against Sydney and Melbourne getting the point with an away win against the Gold Coast.

Can't wait to see Perez play live for the first time at bluetongue on friday hopefully he is fit enough to start the game and play atleast 60 minutes. He made a very impressing debut against Sydney and will be looking to improve as the season goes on (if it is possible to top his weekend performance).

My prediction is a 2-0 win to us.

Nice job Matty. Can't question that work rate ;)

Victory looked ok to me. But I think we will play our best football to date.
Big call - Barring injury, I'm calling the Mariners to show a serious glimpse of their potential and swamp the tards 4-1.
Muscat to be sent.

I on your side ...

Maybe we should try to work out ways of brining newbies and the not so often-ers (hope this is a word I don't want the spell police after me again) ...

Score

MV take the lead 1 Nil ...

Matty equals 1 all

Breen scores 2 - 1

Wilko gets his second ... 3 -1

then finally our own PP scores and its 4 - 1...

I just hope we're not pinning too many hopes on WeePat. He is, after all, only one man, and good as he has shown himself to be, he has to have the other guys working with and for him as well. As the TV guys were saying about Carle for FC, he needs the rest of the team performing as well.
I have to admit though that WeePat blew me away on Saturday. How good is he going to be when he's got his match fitness up? The good thing as well is he looks nimble enough to keep clear of the big opposition trying to shut him down.
So looking forward to Friday night, I hope he gets protection from Musc**t.

Well lets hope that PP puts some bums on seats. I think everyone has been hanging to see him play which may bring in a few more punters.

We seem to have all small players in the midfield (Bozanic, Weemac and PP). I think that they should be able to set up our forwards well now with PP pulling the strings. I just wish that GA would settle on two strikers and give them a few games together instead of chopping and changing. McBreen and Mrdja would be my pick.

Hope Muscat gets sent off!! Wont matter what Muscat say's to PP, He most probably wont understand what Muscat is ranting about anyway.

I predict 2-1 to us.

Ryan will start apparantly:

While it was his mistake that gave Sydney their goal to Rhyan Grant, Arnold will persevere with youngster Matthew Ryan in goal for Friday's home match against Melbourne Victory.

"It was tough for him. He's only 18 but he's got a great future," Arnold said.

"I have a lot of confidence in him," he said.

the more replays i see of the penalty the more i think we wont get to see perez play again on friday

Have you seen another angle? Cause if you haven't all angles are inconclusive and there isn't enough evidence to say that he was not touched. If he was touched even in the slightest there is nothing they can do about it. You can't suspend someone on the assumption that he dived.

Spot on ScottMac. The closest best angle I saw, while still inconclusive certainly implies there was some contact.
Think its HIGHLY unlikely he will be charged for simulation.

Can you guys with Hendo in goals please explain your thinking, or did you not see him play the start of last year before he was benched for being shit.

All I know is that I did see Ryan play and I wasn't very impressed. I'm sure he's a great prospect for the future and has loads of potential, but he looked massively out of place in the game against Sydney.

Doesn't matter what I think anyway because Arnold has chosen to start Ryan in goals on Friday regardless.

Assuming that Patricio does not play and Ryan does then I would like us to start as

--------------------Ryan-------------------

----Bojic----Wilkinson---Zwaanswijk----Rose--

-----------------Griffiths-----------------

-------McGlinchey-------------Bozanic----

-------------------Hutch--------------------

----------Simon-----------Mrdja--------

Subs:
Amini
McBreen
Kwas
Hendo

I think we have enough cover with Griffiths, Hutch and Bojic on the field to cover any needed defensive replacements. This is a home game and we need to be looking at winning and playing well in spite of Perez's absence.

Ideally, I'd like to see Amini given 30-35 minutes to see what he can do. I also wouldn't mind seeing Mrdja play a decent spell if we can get a bit of creativity out of Ollie, Wee-Mac and later Amini. The guy used to be a good finisher. Maybe if he gets good service he can still be.

I'm sick of trying not to lose. Lets go out to win it for Patricio el amo calumniado
