ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

RD 3: City vs Mariners

Why desert a team ?
Surely it wasn't one more 'poor-performance' that broke the camels back?
Hate Man City/  Man U ?
Change from Red to Sky B?
Or just the change of ownership to a Monster Club with petro $'s and no longer little brother under-dogs?

Whats the story?

Would be interested to understand as I've met Fury and Gold Coasters who switched over to following the Mariners, which is easy to understand as their club ceased to exist to support.
Oh and lots of Manchester City fans coming on the Heart forums telling us to suck it up and deal with the sky blue. Saying it was identical to them changing colours in the 19th century.

Neill made errors coming in that led to goals. It's almost certain this was addressed in posy game analysis. I suspect he would be unlikely to make that kind of error too many more times.

This said Rose is a gem and we need the quality and experience on the park, he should play. He'll probably sub though due to recovering and fitness.

I don't know but I would be happy if someone came in and saved my club from a similar fate to Gold Coast or Nth Qld.

If CCM go bad and Red Bull steps in, buys them up, invests in the team, changes the colours and call us the Central Coast Long Horns. I will not be swapping. All I'll be asking is are we getting Drogba as a Marquee.

I agree, because if you're going to continue supporting a small community club like ours, with its limited pop. it's not a far fetched scenario .... it's a reality! always lurking around, hidden inside - on the back cover of CCM's financial report EVERY SEASON. ;)

The thing is Heart was not dying, we broke even every year except our first and we had multiple consortiums interested in buying us (all of whom would have not changed our colours). In answer to your other question I do live in Melbourne. I didn't choose Victory because they embodied the dirtiest player in history and champion him with every chance they get. It's bull that CFG saved us they killed Heart and set up a colonial outpost. Melbourne City will always be a third priority in CFG's eyes and fourth soon enough with them setting up a South American team. CFG couldn't give less of a shit about Melbourne and Australia all we are to them is potential advertising space for a club half way across the world.

I think it's fair enough if you couldn't support the new City team. Every individual has to go with what suits them.

I agree CFG seem slack with the City venture. Keeping Van't Schip and that David Villa joke of a run, no real outstanding, big name signings.
I think they have sunk some money into training facilities but any youth gems they produce will be shipped off to Manchester.
They are going to be an average team this year, like every other year when should be lighting up the league.

I support the Central Coast Mariners... If the Central Coast Long Horns came around, I might support them too, but it's not a given... If all it was was a rename and a change of uniform, it's probably likely that I'd stay but... Football is so tribal... Most of us pick a team for geography and because it embodies something that speaks to us (usually related to how most of the area feels)... If Red Bull bought us out, started throwing money around and decided to go for the Chelsea approach - I wouldn't be interested, it'd be like supporting a different team...
Might as well support the Smurfs or City or something... So I can totally see what you're saying, Joyful Penguin... Essentially your team ceased to exist and you had to pick a new one... If you'd liked them, it could perhaps have been City, but we're better ;)

(Edit: Whoops - it's probably likey that I'd STAY if it was just a uniform change and a rename)

I'll be watching from the US... if anyone can recommend a good streaming site, then I would be grateful.

Same. Clubs change what they stand for over time through their play style, roster, business structure, and community relationship. I can appreciate that name and colour are a big part of a club's identity - but they're only a part of the identity. I wouldn't be that upset if we went through the same thing - I'd be excited at the possibilities.

My support for CCM was geographical - so new name or not, they're still the Central Coast.

anyway, back onto the game itself,
Tough game for them with the reserve keeper and all the distractions during the week. Could be an entertaining match though, with our new attacking style and Mooy's moments of flair and brilliance on the other end – though I fear it could be him that makes the difference with an inexperienced keeper and a back line lacking leadership.

Annoyed I won't be able to make it – too much uni work to justify heading out (he says while procrastinating by trolling the WSW fb page and WP......)

I'll advertise them again ;) - If you don't mind paying the $6 fee for a month's worth of streams, the official A-league streaming site is www.aleague.livesport.tv - works quite well :)
It does, been using it myself for the past week. In my view the fee is reasonable. It does pixilate a bit from time to time and also become a bit jumpy, but I can live with that. Last night when the jumpy started, I closed my browser, then logged in again and it was good for just about the rest of the night.

I think our young team might be a little distracted by the week's events, which is a shame as we were building nicely.

Having said that I think we'll cause them some chaos at the back, and we should get a couple of goals.

2-2.

If only I had a half decent internet connection (only 5800K) I could potentially do away with Foxtel....and I'm not even on the NBN schedule yet!!!

5.8 Mbit should pull it fairly well I think tbh mate... I'm squeezing about 15 Mbit, theoretically - had son streaming Netflix, while I was watching the game last night, and the wife had set a download running (we rely fairly heavily on the net ;) ) and it ran quite happily... The livesport.tv stream is surprisingly lightweight - I think...
We recently moved house, last season, I was languishing at speeds similar to yours and using Foxtel GO quite comfortably, for game watching :)
I find my Wifi router to be much more of a bottleneck ;)

I'm trying to be positive... Thinking that, if we can come out and play similar to how we have the last couple of weeks, it'll show that they've built quite a bit of character and so, will show some promise for the season.
If they break down, I guess I'll just accept it as a work in progress... So can't really lose I guess ;)

Hmm, maybe it's worth giving it a shot. Thanks for that info.
