seems the time in Korea doing video work and the small group discussions has paid off. with the amount of new players I'm recent times we've looked like a team that doesn't know each other. but now each player seems to know his role in the team so much better. and it showed in the cohesion and decision making across the board, a real team performance. and being a team is why we've done so well over the years
huzzah!

It was a backs to the wall, gutsy effort & a game we desparately needed to win.
After the mid week travelling & loss our Mariner`s just looked so more determined & tighter as a playing unit.
Players like Bosnar & Seip really lifted their games & stood out.Hopefully it`s a turning point for both of them.
Reddy was superb as a shot stopper but his distrubution on numerous occasions was awful.
I loved Fitzy`s energy. In the second half he just didn`t stop.
Rose had a better game but his finishing is atrocious.H e could be our leading scorer if he could only finish.
Duke played his heart out & chased everything
Sterj showed some resilience to fatigue with a full 90mins
Caceres is looking more comfortable in the top grade
Even Hutcho had an inspiring captains knock.

Just a few things I noted. 1) Ditch that kick-off routine
2) Stop neglecting the far post in attack & on set plays
3) Del Piero would fall over if someone as much as farted near him.

Mom:- 3 Fitzy for his energy & whole hearted display
2 Dukey for his return to form
1 Reddy for the amazing saves

Much better. We had everything against us (Eddy and Rosey going off injured, midweek game in Korea, Matty and Monty out, new players still to gel) but still came up with the goods. First half i thought young Cacreres was outstanding, at the centre of all we did. Reddy has been superb, unbelievable save from that free kick. Dukey was much improved and must now start up front. I think we will scare a few sides with the young brigade of Caceres,Bernie,Fitzy and Dukey. Kim and Eddy are starting to blend in and Sterj was good as well.

Oooh Seung-yong! I would do anything just to be like Kim!!!

Come to think of it, you probably need to trademark this or something, before RBB change the stanza and claim it as theirs...

"Oooooooh Shiiiiiiinjiiiiii! I would do anything, just to be like Ono!"... "That's the way it's ALWAYS been!" ;)

I think their flare throwing took the steam out of them . lets hope it takes them sometime to
get their mojo back.

What a good game. They had a dig. Was caught up in the game abusing Del Peiro & cheering the boys on so no time to really analysis the game which is good.

Great win but I did tell you - SFC are ours we own them - 3/3 baby.

Great save Reddy only thing he did better was give the Cove a rev up afterwards (he deserved it - Best he has played for a few weeks - Del Piero does love that near post)

I'm not sure the been counters at the gates are doing a good job - Have thought a few games a lower attendance has been given than people there. Concerned it's a part of the move the team strategy but that's for another day.

Finally happy after a game again.

& a little thank you to the rain for holding off for the most important couple of hours of the weekend.

. mossy has been putting the band back together!

. these guys were dominant back in the nyl together as somebody pointed out recently ... and they have attacking instincts - and we have needed more of that. i think fitzy has grown in confidence. more please

A bit of Kim glue has helped as well.

Hey Mossy - It's me from the back seat - Duke is a striker not a winger. Just saying

I thought seip played well but I disliked 1 moment, with 10 mins remaining when the ball was lobbed over our defence (our left hand side).
Sim sprinted back and cleared (to the top tier of the western stand IIRC). Whilst sim was sprinting back to clear the ball I saw Anderson sprint back to edge of box, and I saw seip casually jog back.
I know sim had it covered but there is always that chance a mistake could happen.
Anderson was there just in case, and seip wasn't.
Admittedly that was the only real critique of seips perfermance...as well as a positive reflection on Anderson (who I've started to doubt this past month)
Obviously 30 year old seip was playing his 2nd game in a week, and recovering from travelling to Korea...So maybe I am a tad bit harsh
He was good tonight - I'll pay that but he does have a look of disinterest to me. Not on the Tesco side of she''ll be right but the everyone hates me who cares look. He is not playing for the shirt yet but has improved but didn't look comfortable on the right replacing Storm (who did need a rest).
He wasn't as dominate as in the ACL where he torn in aggressively but most of all he didn't stuff up.

Shots on target
Sim 1
Rose 1 (header) - From now on Rose must use his head for shots on goal

Why say that to moss? He has played 9 for moss far more than wing, which he did for Arnold. The only reason he has been on the wing is there is nowhere else for simon than up front, but moss has abandoned that plan and now it's duke or simon

I don't think that is correct.

Mossy kept putting him at RW then criticized his play.

Arnold never played him at RW (maybe once) - When Holger did he went I like the look of that.

Duke started up front under Arnie with Flores feeding him. Scored the 1st goal against WSW & looked like it would be his year.

Simon got fit - Took his spot - Arnie left - Mossy played Duke on the RW - Duke tried but wasn't effective.

Finally played him upfront for 25-30 mins @ WSW and looked dangerous, Next couple of weeks back to bench & RW as a sub.

It's no coincidence Fitzy Bernie Sterj meshed with Duke up front.

I take this from next years team thread that I just posted.

With Duke up front like he was on Sat night we looked more threatening & the passes to the strikers were on the ground (1:1 with keeper - Blocked + the goal came from passes on the ground) or anything with height was into space for him to chase.

Unlike Simon who we hoof ball to his head & turn it over 7/10 times.

To me the reason we looked better in attack was because we stopped trying to Hoof it up field but passed our way up the ground.

Don't need to sell me on duke at 9, even blind Freddy and his dog agree this has always been his best position. Which is a shame and limits his opportunities overseas. Since ibini's return he has been more or less exclusively 9, off the bench or as a starter. Duke on the wing has more to do with him being able to play there and Simon not than duke being good there

One swallow does not make a summer. Yes we won, there were some decent patches of play, yet had we been playing Adelaide, Heart or Brisbane the result would have been different. That being said could Sydney have played us back into form.

Great to see Dukey back front and centre. I suspect that there may have been some talk behind closed doors during the trip to Korea. The players seemed to have a different mentality. What I observed and liked was Hutch getting stuck into everyone during a break in play. The fire was in the belly and he was really serving it up to everyone to measure up. A big thumbs up from me. Also during the first 20 minutes of the second half the team dug deep and held their nerve which was fantastic to see.

The decision to start Seip at RB was brave. I really want him to do well for us considering the coin he is on and the fact that we have him tied up for a visa spot. However he was almost like a fish out of water and seemed to lack any sort of confidence. Once he slotted back into the CB slot he seemed to do better.

My man of the has to be Reddy for three reasons. He pulled of some great saves, sought to organize his Defence well (including giving Anderson a spray) and the fact that he stuck it to the Cove after the whistle. The question is has Reddy now found his home and redemption?

I'd rate Reddy as the second best keeper we have ever had after Mr Ryan.

I've completely forgotten that he used to play for the Scum.

I gave him a roast after the last game as he was very poor against Nux and needed a verbal slap.

Most of the season he was been brilliant and I think I have given him 4 MOM awards.

He has been a very smart signing.

i haven't & whatabout vuko

Vuko was great season 1 but I can't stand the way he just stands there and turns his body to watch the ball fly into the net without even attempting a save.
I was glad when he left even though he was a good bloke.

Not an international level keeper.
