We now have half the points we got last season.
This is really important to note, we've got 6 points after just 7 rounds - I don't think many would've had that level of expectation before Round 1 (let alone the fact the one team we beat are the reigning champions). That's a result in 4/7 games as well. I'd be shocked if we didn't comfortably surpass last year's 13 points now.

R7 last season we were on 5pts, ended last on 13pts.
R7 2014/15 we were on 5pts, ended up in 8th on 23pts.

The worst finalists yet (in a 27 game season) finished on 32 points - Perth in 2012/13. They had just 9 wins and 5 draws, losing 13 games.

The best wooden spooners yet finished on 29 points from 27 games - it was Adelaide in 2009/10 and they got 7 wins and 8 draws and lost 12.

If we can simply avoid losing 12 or more games, then I think we definitely don't finish bottom. And if we're not losing, we're giving the boys up front a chance to win us matches.

Easily the best experience at a Mariners game for two years, and a rare contravention of our normally-unbreakable Good Crowd Shit Result rule.
We now have half the points we got last season.

I think this rule only applies at home?

Glad you asked!

For games with crowds under 10k:
Home: P90 W43 D20 L27
Away: P64 W22 D20 L22
Total: P154 W65 D40 L49

For games with crowds over 10k:
Home: P49 W20 D13 L16
Away: P80 W21 D22 L37
Total: P129 W41 D35 L53

Result likelihood when crowd is >10k vs <10k:
Home W-7% D+4% L+3%
Away W-8% D+-4% L+12%
Total W-10% D+1% L+9%

So we really do get stagefright, and it's worse playing away!

There's another (less good) stat from yesterday - as we didn't win, and our last win against them was 11th October 2014, our winless streak against them will stretch to be 869 days when we next play them in February.

We're still a long way from their longest winless streak (1226 days - 20/10/12 to 28/2/16) but it's still not good. And if we beat their streak by not beating them until February 2018 there'll be hell to pay.

FWIW, Our winless streak against Wanderers goes back to 11/4/15 (602 days by the time we play them next) and against Sydney it goes back to 1/3/14 (1044 days by the time we play them next)...

Nice of security to ignore the tattered remnant of the scums hardcore firm yesterday. Oh hang on, there was no security. My bad.

Bucket hat boy (fatter) in mufti avoiding his FFA ban too - well played scum. What a club

What a complete bunch of nobs - so proud of our fans who utterly ignored them and they then left the away bay about 15 mins into the game.

Great 1st half complete control Newcastle were slow and un inventive and gave possession straight back to us. In the second half we completely lost our shape and once Newcastle scored they found the extra gears thank god their final 3rd decisions were shit in last 20 min , we managed to to scramble in defense and get a point . My concern was the contrast in halves , we didn't have the killer instinct to finish them off Newcastle found theirs in the second we needed to be a bit more aggressive l felt we let back in the game .We didn't dominate the ball like did in the first half

Remnants of their well ard little firm. Apparently hanging round the pub pregame too.

Pathetic

They were in the corner at the pub talking shit to anyone that walked past waiting for someone to bite. Nobody did.

They were waiting for someone to say or do something when they were a bay over at the game. Nobody did. And as you said they gave up after about 15 minutes.

What a sad day out for the lads. back to fake tanning and dodgy haircuts.

Oh i saw those boys in the pub. Only 4 of them in the corner. I didnt realise it was the same clowns.
They didnt say anything to me but i did see them giggling like girls in the corner.
Having said that im glad they didnt act like morons at the game as they looked more serious than the jokes that come to BT dressed in the Ben Shermans.

CENTRAL Coast coach Paul Okon was left exasperated after what he believed was a handball not called by the referee in his side’s thrilling 1-1 derby draw with Newcastle.

The Central Coast coach was left exasperated after what he believed was a handball not called by referee Jonathan Barreiro in his side’s thrilling 1-1 derby draw with Newcastle on Sunday.

The Mariners held on for a share of the spoils despite playing the final 25 minutes with ten men following Liam Rose’s second yellow for a handball. Asked whether he had issue with the decision, Okon deflected to a perceived late no-call.

“There’s no point me having an opinion because it doesn’t count,” he said. “I asked the fourth official in the 85th minute – there was a handball from the Jets down in the corner and I asked him if it was a handball and he told me to shut up.”

Okon, who also criticised the four-day turnaround they have until Thursday’s clash with Perth, said there was no point bringing up any issues with A-League refereeing director Ben Wilson.

“We asked for an explanation a couple of weeks ago on the four handballs in the penalty box. You don’t want to hear the answer to those explanations,” Okon said.

“I’d prefer to go for a beer – me and you – and have a chat about something else, than go over the explanation as to why the referee and the linesman, who were ten metres away, didn’t see the handball against the Wanderers.”
