They are too good a side to struggle for long. I'd settle for another away point here

Clean sheet would be ideal too please

They are missing Carusca big time but still very dangerous. They missing the final pass.

Our defence can't give up the same opportunities as WSW.

With there injuries we won't get a better chance to take down the champs in Adelaide

I'm more nervous about this one.....because AU should come good any game, but because of how they're going there's the perception that we should beat them, which translates to fan frustration if we don't...

spot on ! the big spaniard they got will decimate sides once Carusca is back feeding him

Having watched Adelaide last week I think the key to beating them is to stay away from Tarek Elrich when we attack.
He is such a strong defender & so experienced that it would be a waste of time to play down that channel too often.

In saying that Pain still needs to be involved & my old favourite of switching the wide midfielders every now & then, to change the point of attack, would probably work in our favour this week.

We also need to limit the freekicks we give away inside the back third as Adelaide are very well versed with their set plays.
After last weeks draw, the players should have a bit of confidence.

We`re gradually clawing back our never say die attitude, so hopefully we can stay tight at the start & pressure them into mistakes.

Anything other than a loss is a bonus to us....

The Central Coast Mariners are primed to face reigning Hyundai A-League champions Adelaide United in a huge clash this Sunday at Coopers Stadium.

In a boost for the club's midfield stocks, club captain Nick Montgomery returns to the squad after missing Saturday's 1-all draw with Western Sydney Wanderers.

Montgomery's return ensures there is plenty of competition for starting spots in Sunday's lineup, with Liam Rose's strong showing on return from Young Socceroos duty and Adam Berry's goalscoring heroics in his own starting debut sure to create some positive selection headaches for head coach Paul Okon.

In the front third, Kwabena Appiah is included amongst the attacking options for Okon, with Appiah, Blake Powell, Roy O'Donovan, Connor Pain, Fabio Ferreira, Trent Buhagiar and Josh Bingham all available for Sunday's clash.

Off the park, Jacob Poscoliero (quad) remains another week away from returning to the squad, while Harry Ascroft (groin) continues to work his way back to full fitness.

Central Coast Mariners Squad: 2.Storm ROUX, 3.Scott GALLOWAY, 6.Blake POWELL, 7.Fabio FERREIRA, 8.Nick MONTGOMERY (c), 9.Roy O”DONOVAN, 10.Mickael TAVARES, 11.Connor PAIN, 12.Trent BUHAGIAR, 13.Kwabena APPIAH, 14.Adam BERRY, 16.Liam ROSE, 17.Josh BINGHAM, 19.Jacques FATY, 20.Paul IZZO (gk), 21.Michael NEILL, 22.Jake McGING, 30.Adam PEARCE(gk)
**two to be omitted**

Ins: 8.Nick MONTGOMERY (returns from injury), 13.Kwabena APPIAH (promoted)

Tough game Adelaide are a good side and have been unlucky in recent outings but where looking better each week good test for us if we hold the ball well and hang on to possession the way Okon wants us to we could nick this one with Carusco out .

AU might have the record for the most shots hitting the wood work in the first 4 rounds of any HAL season, there's one for the stat man to check on. They are still very competitive even without their injured stars and we shouldn't even continplate victory without 110%. Sure Paolo is on the job. I've watched all of AU's games and they are a force and will be in the mix at the end of the season IMO, next week though with the Nux losing 6 to international duty and at Canberra, now that is a real chance. But I'll take three this week if it's on offer.

If we can win this one with the side we have, then I think Paulo can take us to the finals this year and a real challenge for next year. If not then I think we will challenge for finals next year and push for a championship the year after that. This is the real test of this squad.

Izzo still cops plenty of hate for last season but it's worth noting in his two games we've shipped 2 goals... in Ivan's two performances it was 7 goals.

I think Izzo has significantly improved, which is great to see.
Paulo took a risk putting him back in after Ivan only had a couple of games but it seems to have paid off.
Of course it does coincide with improvements to our defensive line-up, but still...
Anybody know why Ivan was dropped completely? Or are we to assume it's purely on-field performance?

There was a post on the subreddit the other day, referencing the insider, or deep throat or whatever he calls himself, suggesting that Paolo is keen to be rid of Necevski, Faty and Tavares.
Much as i can see why - id really like to think that we don't have that sort of discord in the squad already.

Don't trust the insider gossip - typically turns out to be bullshit or just plain shit stirring at our expense. It's just wannabe UK gutter press imo.

Ivan isn't being selected. So Okon is clearly unimpressed by him. Looks pretty clear cut. He choked against SFC and it cost him (Fairly I think) But sounds like Ivan may have either felt hard done by or has other stuff going on possibly as Okon dropped a hint in his presser about "players being in the right frame of mind" I think he put it.

But regarding Tav and Faty. They are CCM starting 11 players, and what matters more than next season, is the season that we are playing right now. They are contracted, appear to be training hard and improving each week. And again most importantly, for better or worse, they are the players he has for now.

Okon isn't stupid. He will obviously try to make the most of what he has and then make the changes he deems necessary. Sincerely doubt he'd be running around saying how he can't wait to get rid of two of his starting 11 right now. Next season sure. But this is not an insider revelation. These guys are pros turning 33 and 35 respectively. They would know even if we won the seat, another contract is not that likely. Most likely, solid years service we hope and then off to Thailand for another year or two.

Nothing to see here I reckon. And personally I'm enjoying watching Tavares. Good footballer.
